  1. So I can drive through Blount County and buy a pistol on my way to Murfreesboro to buy a Barrett rifle. We live in the best state. lol
  2. I was more thinking of using one that is in a remote location. So as to get away from people. Hopefully that isolation would limit people showing up with torches and armored siege wagons. My main goal on one would be to setup a (relatively) quick shelter that is far from others so as to stage for whatever you next plan could be. Though it would not be a 15 minute job, you could take down some local logs and create a platform on the cross members. If you wanted to go a little more permanent, you could lash logs on to be walls and a roof. the idea is a raised shelter to keep you safe from zombies, wildlife, or to insulate you a little from surprise attack. It would be much easier than building an entire cabin from scratch. Now better options are out there such as a nice block building (if you can stay in populated areas), a remote existing cabin, or an underground bunker. I was just playing with unconventional ideas. If something was to happen, very few of us will have a huge stocked bunker to dive into and lock up tight. Even if you do, there is a finite amount of time you can remain there. Or unforeseen issues that damage your stockpile. On the other side, running into the woods and living in a tent is not going to work long term. If you are lucky it will be spring and you will have until winter to find a better solution. If not, winter in the middle of the woods with little more than a tent as shelter is not where I want to be. Despite everyone thinking they can kill enough game to survive, if everyone is hunting things will thin out mighty quick. They say the best tool is your head and the best skill is adaptability. I just like to keep both in play by looking at things a little differently. If we all had time and unlimited budget to prepare for whatever may happen whenever, we would not have to care about it. We would be driving one of these in a model that ran on any fuel (Diesel, unleaded, vodka, kerosene):
  3. What do you do if you get a flat? No way you are finding a new tire any time soon. lol If you really want a good way to get around, just build you a bed on top of the back of this . Then you could use it for farming and construction where ever you end up. Still hard on gas. Holds 470 gallons though and burns around 27 gallons per hour. So you could drive 17 hours. Also, it can pull 50,000 pounds. It is meant for hard use, so the parts should last a while before you have to worry. If a car is in the way, just drag it out of the way. But if you need speed, you might be out of luck. I can't find a speed rating on it.
  4. No sure abut your budget, but I ran into this site a while back. If has several listings and some have GPS coordinates or addresses. It ranges from 600+ acres down to 3/4 of an acre. http://m.landwatch.com/tennessee/davidson-county/land-for-sale/?id=25038859 I am too far away to try and figure out good options. Sounds like the local guys have good advise.
  5. Sorry to hear of a friend passing. Boy do I wish I found this kind of stuff in the attics of houses am in. Nice of his widow to offer and nice of you to make sure you give her a fair price.
  6. Looks easy enough. I may just have to join just in case. Thanks
  7. Well tornados are extremely rare here in NE TN, but I had not thought out the lightning. Oops. For their down sides, they do have the up side of normally being in clear cuts to allow you a field of view. That does expose you if the situation requires camouflage though, but would give you a chance at wildlife making the crossing from side to side. I agree that a nice block building with few windows would be preferable. If you have to get out away from everyone though that would not be available. The tower would give you a leg up on making a shelter even if it was just temporary or to be used as a hunting blind. It all just depends on the nature of the disaster and the troubles you will face.
  8. I would love to have one too. That is not a horrid price if it is 1/2 way good condition. Looks like I need to join a local club to meet requirements though. Not a big deal, but I just have not found one I like that is in my price range. The cheaper shooting club locally requires 2 sponsors now. The other one is nice and I think only requires 1 sponsor, but is pretty expensive for as little as I get to shoot. There is another one that I may have to research. Other than shooting clubs most of the orgs are BSA troops and ROTC that I see.
  9. Has anyone bought through this before? What kind of price do you end up getting on a M1?
  10. Remington Ammo Days $5 per box rebate is back. Good from 04/06/2017 to 04/30/2017. Limit of 20 boxes. Must be postmarked by 5/20/17 You have to send receipts and UPC from each box in. Here is the form http://www.cabelas.com/assets/pdfs/remington_ammo_days_corelokt_4_30_2017.pdf Here is the direct site. https://remington.rebateaccess.com/promotion.php?p=73808
  11. I like the nose dive we are seeing in prices still. Maybe I can afford to actually buy some good stuff.
  12. Is it just me, or does anyone else look at these and think they would be a great frame to build a raised platform shelter on in a grid down senerio?
  13. Just looking to get a few more rounds and I see Cabela's now has the .223 in a "HotShot" brand. It is on sale for $4.49 for 20. Looks like typical Russian stuff, but that is a darn good price. Plus shipped to me it is no tax and over $99 is free shipping. makes it out the door to be $0.2245. Does not say polymer or lacquer coated, but I bet it is the latter. Curious, so I looked at 9mm. They have it $8.49 for 50. Look like the ammo only comes in .223, 9mm, .308 and (very oddly) 8x57 Mauser. Anyone tried this or have an idea of the maker? Ordering from Cabela's is cheaper for me than Academy due to tax savings, but normally Academy beats them on price anyway. I know there are a few slightly cheaper places out there, but I have a gift card to both places right now, so that makes up for it. Looks like ammunitionstore.com has some Wolf WPA that is .21893 when you buy 1000 and pay shipping.
  14. I remember scraping to save enough to but a used set at a repair shop. The washer sounded like a rhino trying to bust out but sure beat laundromat costs EVERY week. Hopefully you find a worthy recipient and that Karma will return the favor when you need it most.
  15. I have attended a few over the last few years. I always park at Sunbelt Rentals at 3022 US-19, Bluff City, TN 37618. I think they just moved, but someone will be selling parking there. It is very close to the track and I think was $25 last time. If they are full, Lady Equipment Co. at 3077 Hwy 11 E, Bluff City, TN 37618 is just a little farther away and has a huge lot. These are on the Johnson City side of the track. There is a hill to walk up to get to the gates, but I think the other side is about the same. I recommend getting there early and just hang out. It makes parking so much easier. When you leave from either place, take a left away from the track and things will thin out some. Juse don't be in s hurry anyway. Also, unless you are driving back, you may want to look for a hotel ASAP. They fill up early. If you can drive back to Knoxville, it might get better. Enjoy!
  16. Might be interested, but depends on what exactly is offered and if prices are reasonable. I have seen a few of these things setup. It can be really nice.
  17. Welcome. Glad to see another NE TN resident.
  18. I thought this was interesting when I saw it. Made by the New York City Police Department in 1997. Be sure you do not wear an over sized or mismatched coat when you CCW so no one can spot it. lol
  19. That is a possibility. That is how I got my latest upper. I found a good deal on a used full upper with a 7.5 inch barrel. I bought it and swapped on my 16 inch barrel and hand guard. Then I sold off the barrel and hand guard to recoup some of my money.
  20. While they do sound good to most people in principle, I agree that they do not work. Criminals do not go into a store and buy off the shelf. Other than that they can recruit "clean" buyers to do straw purchases and then move the guns out of state so that connecting them is harder. The "clean" buyer can report a theft if they want a record of them no longer having the gun. They could even buy a few and take care of them all on one "theft" On top of this, lots of guns recovered from crimes are stolen from legitimate owners. There is no way for background checks to stop either of these. On the other side, if a person goes in to buy a gun that is then used in a "crime of passion", that person passed the background check at the time because they had no outstanding issues. So that did not deter that issue. So while background checks for private sales might have a positive impact, the amount would be very small. Basically it would simply generate more income for the government via the charge for background checks with very little in return. I think the energy would be best used to stop the smuggling of weapons into the country by criminal networks. I can guarantee those weapons have a 500 times larger chance to be used in a violent crime than the gun sitting on the shelf at a LGS.
  21. I wonder what he did with the AR? Maybe someone could buy both as a package deal. lol
  22. Someone less nice than me might be tempted to set up an Armslist ad for him......
  23. Wow he looks like an a$$wipe. And no way 80% of any evenly diverse group is really for something...How about you ask in some other parts of the state. Can I come buy it, then promptly resell it without a back ground check. Lol On another note....I have that same lemonade pitcher.
  24. But everyone can pull head shots on walkers with no sights....
  25. I like how Negan is flipping us off as he frowns and somehow aims without looking in the scope. No wonder no one on this show ever has a decent hit average on humans.
