  1. I was certified by the B.S.A.C. and a member in the mid 60's.  Did several trips and then was married and had kids which ended my diving.  I don't see much B.S.A.C.activity these days.
  2. Response to letter regarding 2nd amendment discussions......     "Thank you for writing.  I am unaware of any legislation at the state level that would ban assault rifles, body armor, piercing bullets or high capacity magazines.  I do realize Congress has taken up the issue.  I do support having officers in the schools and would vote to allow such measures if brought to the floor.  While I will probably vote not to ban weapons, I would also vote not to add anymore as well.  We need to enforce what is currently on the books. Contact me anytime. Best, Darren"
  3. I just checked my renewal date and it expires in a few days. There doesn't seem to be an option to renew, even a few days early. Will something show up on or after the renewal date?
  4. Just to clear it up a bit; Your (or my) Ham License doesn't allow you to transmit on Public Safety Frequencies nor are Ham Radios approved for such use. There are relatively simple mods that will allow them to transmit on other than the authorized Ham Bands. If you have a life or death emergency you may use whatever means necessary to get help so using an illegal radio is not a big problem but fines for interference to a PS agency are big $. However, the Ham systems often are as good as or better than the PS systems so you should be able to get help through fellow Ham operators. Also, many PS systems are using digital modes and you radio won't work on these systems.
  5. Here is a picture of my last Autocross a couple years ago. It's fun in a 50 year old car!
  6. Am I the last to find out Owl Hollow is now closed on Thursdays? I took the day off today but there was a closed Thursdays sign on the gate. Oh well, maybe another day soon.

    Anyone do cars?

It's one of two similar cars built in Livonia by Roush in stock bodied GT's. It has the R2300 engine package with the forged bottom end, 8:1 Pistons but with 16PSI boost. Same power unit used in the P51A. The only visual is the boost gauge in vent pod. When I found it I was skeptical but Roush sent me the build docs and the story behind the build, Roush lists the VIN in their DB as "Custom-P51"

    Anyone do cars?

I have a couple of interesting cars, 09 Mustang with a Roush P51 510 HP "Sleeper". It looks completely stock until you punch it and light up the tires. And, a 58 Austin Healey Sprite (Bugeye), 1275 CC with a Datsun 210 transmission. BIG difference in the cars but both are fun toys. I have been into old British cars for many years and have only had this Mustang for about a year. The British cars will make a mechanic out of you even if you don't want to!

    Corvette

A long time ago I promised myself that I would someday buy a Corvette. Well, the years are going faster and faster so it is about time. I am looking at used C6 coupe's but am quickly realizing that there is much to learn about these cars before I pop down some cash. Do any of you folks have first hand knowledge for a newbe? I need tips on where to look for potential problems, I know cars in general be not much about vette's.. Also, leads on a good low mileage car would be helpful. I have looked and eliminated a couple already.
  12. "I've tried to find a Savage in .223, and have had no luck." I bought a model 14 American Classic in .223 at the end of November, had to order it but it came in three days later. Nice walnut stock and a great shooter, one inch groups at 100 yds first time out. Savage Arms Firearms > 14 American Classic
  13. I have been seeing the "We Miss Hearing From You" tag on the sign in page so I thought I better post something. Attached is a picture of a revolver that was given to me over 55 years ago. It was mounted to a Cowboy Lamp that I had in my bedroom as a kid. The lamp is long gone but the gun has been in a drawer for the last 40 plus years. I know nothing about it but it had to be cheap and worn out when I got it. It has Iver Johnson s Arms and Cycle Works on the barrell, PAT June 16, 96 Aug 25, XXX and 911 98 on the trigger guard. It is nickel plated with black (brown) phenolic grips. Anybody know anything about it and what should I do with it. I have been waiting for one of those government buyouts but alass they never come this way.

    Red Dot Accuracy

I have an AR with a Aimpoint Comp M2 Sight and I can't do better than about 6 inch groups at 100 yds. I don't have any magnifier and wonder if maybe I could do better if I had 3x or so? I can do sub one inch groups with my Savage 223 bolt action using a 3x9 on the 3x setting. Is it just me or my rifle? What should I expect with the AR? I only have about 300 rnds through it so maybe I just need more practice.
  15. I just bought a Savage Model 14 Classic in .223. My first time at the range with a Nikon 3x9 scope (that I already had) and I was shooting 1.5 inch groups at 100 yds. It is a nice rifle, pretty wood, smooth action and nice fit and finish. It's a keeper to me. I got the .223 because I always have plenty of ammo laying around for other stuff, I am not a hunter.
  16. I have one just like it and it is a fun gun. Mine came with a 1/2 inch rail but I have not used it. It is very accurate like came from the box with the fiber optics. 50 yds is good even with my tired old eyes. Have fun, I am taking mine and some other stuff to OH tomorrow.

    Ruger LCP .380

I have had one for about 8 months. It is a nice little gun for the summer. About 10 yards is it for me, after that it's hit or miss. Make sure you have the magazine grip extension, otherwise you can only get two fingers on it. I have a DeSantis pocket "hoslter" which works well. I keep bigger stuff near by just in case.
  20. I have been wanting to make some grips for my 1911 and decided to try it with some scrap oak before I used the expensive stuff. Here are some pix of my first attempt. I actually think they look ok in oak, kind of reminds me something the army might have done. What do you think?
