  1. I heard the silencer is basically useless because most of the sound comes from the compression chamber, is this true? Yes, that's true. The Gamo Whisper is no more quiet than the average, medium power spring piston rifle. Gamo Whisper - once a vastly overpriced gimmick($300), now only an overpriced gimmick($200) You can get the same performance from the $99 Gamo Hornet, but you don't get the basically useless "silencer"
  2. Please don't go hunting. Hunting hurts, harms, kills and distresses beings. It also can orphan young animals. I know I may sound like what some call a "PETA nuthead" here, but I really, really dissaprove of unnecessary hunting. Hunting when it is necessary in order to survive, I can (sort of) tolerate, but hunting for sport or even just because you fancy some caribou I can't tolerate. I am (almost) vegan, but I have friends and family who eat meat. I still love them. I still disagree with unnecessary hunting. Animals have feelings, too. How else would ou explain why an animal yelps or cries when hurt? How else would you explain the behaviour of a dog who runs up, wagging his/her tail, and bounding around when their person comes home? Why don't you look for another hobby that doesn't involve hurting, harming, killing or distressing any being? Best of luck.
  3. Both are great choices. I have one of each in the savage 93s bolt actions with the accutrigger The 17hmr tends to be just a tad bit more accurate. But in the right hands both rounds can be tack drivers. Hornady also makes the v max bullet for the .22 magnum although hard to find makes big improvement on accuracy over the typically found hollow points. Ammo tends to be a dollar or two cheaper on the .22 mag on the box. Bottom line both are great rounds but if you don't buy a gun with a good trigger and a lot of practice with it the average shooter will never tell the difference in accuracy for the intended ranges for these cartridges are designed for. I think you will be happy with either choice of caliber .
