  1. If what she is telling you is true; TBI can’t clear it up without changing their policy. If you have a misdemeanor assault conviction the information is coming from the Feds. TBI can’t retain information on you that they got from a background check. So if they claim they are going to deny anyone with an assault conviction; you will continue to be denied. However… I would be suspect of what a clerk at the TBI tells you. I was refused twice because of a gun possession charge in Illinois that was dismissed. Both times I appealed and the purchase went through. Both times the clerk told me it was because the charge in Illinois could possibly be a felony in Tennessee, even though it was clearly marked as a misdemeanor. She just clearly didn’t have a clue of what she was talking about or why I was denied. The gun charge was 20 years old and was dismissed. I got tired of messing with the TBI and decided to spend the $30 for my C&R license and figured that would show what was truly going on. That worked. ATF sent me a letter explaining that the charge was not the issue. The issue was that the FBI records did not show a disposition. So even though it was a misdemeanor charge; nothing could be approved without a disposition. I followed their instructions of how to take care of the problem; got my C&R, and haven’t had a problem since.
  2. Yes it is. And that will be the down fall of it. Just because you don’t have a legal name for bars in this state; they still exist. We did this. The anti gun people had nothing to do with it. We had a restaurant carry bill on-track to go through that would not allow carry in bars. The age limits and hour limits were removed and it became guns in bars. If you support guns in bars; say so. But don’t whine about the media calling it “Guns in bars†that’s exactly what it is.
  3. It’s all simply applied physics. Unfortunately physics doesn’t take into consideration the price of the round; which is the determining factor many end up using. The “Mega Macho†guys aren’t the .45 guys. They are the “shot placement†guys. It doesn’t matter what caliber those guys use.
  4. No. Unless something has opened recently or you know someone with property the only thing we have is Walden’s 300 meter range. The 1000 yard range at the base is always brought up, but as you say you can’t shoot at it unless you are in a match; so it doesn’t help much. I have not heard of anything in Murfreesboro close to 1500 yards. That’s beyond the realistic range of most rifles except the .50. Barrett might have something like that on private land around here; but nothing open to us.
  5. Don’t bet on it. As a former cop I’ll be the first to say our domestic violence laws are not fair. People need to understand that before they call the cops to handle their family problems. Discretion was taken way in the 80’s when “family Fight†calls became “Domestic Violenceâ€. I never liked going on them. Many times I ended up booking the person that had called. Or like in your case booking someone into jail for something that should be handled by the family; not the court system. I saw our discretion taken away on DV calls and DUI’s. It was not going to end well for you if you were a suspect in either.
  6. No. Rights are read when the Officer wants to question you as a suspect. An attorney would want to know how the charges were “dropped”. Your son can’t drop charges on a domestic violence complaint; the state is the complainant. This wasn’t part of some court supervision or diversion was it?
  7. Were you interrogated after you became a suspect? Was anything you said used against you? No need to Mirandize you unless an Officer is going to question you after it becomes obvious you are a suspect. If your charges have been dismissed why would it matter?
  8. If you want your money back I would suggest that you not start making threats of things that won’t happen. Telling him that Deputies from Tennessee are going to come to Kentucky and extradite him back here is probably not going to happen. I would give him the information he requires to show that the gun was stolen. Certainly he is going to resist. If he didn’t steal the gun his first thoughts will be that you are trying to scam him. One of you is going to be out over a grand; I’m sure he would rather it be you. Is he close to where the gun was reported stolen? I’m sure the cops there want to talk to him. That would be the proof he needs. Call them. Good luck. You didn’t do anything wrong; but we all run these risks when dealing with private owners. I hope everything works out for you.
  9. My very first guess is going to be alcohol. However… that is just a WAG and not based on anything in the story… since I didn’t read it.
  10. Why, are they the same size as a weapon that can hold 15 rounds of .45ACP?
  11. I think it is because AK’s were select fire weapons. So any sold to the public are modified or reproductions on new receivers.
  12. David Boyce stopped by my house and talked to me. I don’t know much about him but he said he was pro 2nd amendment and an NRA member. He impressed me with his concerns on unemployment and taxes. However, he was pretty wound up about term limits; he wants them and I am against them at any level of government. Oh well, you can’t have everything.
  13. Unless you get a spark. That stuff goes off like a bomb.
  14. 15 rounds of 45 would make a nice range gun or might make a good duty gun (If any Police departments carry XD’s) but it will be too big for carry….. It’s Physics.
  15. I go to Dr. Serge Martin at Accu-Vision on Memorial. I didn’t ask his opinions on guns or the 2nd amendment, but he helped me with some specific questions I had about shooting and made some recommedations. However…. Eyesight that I do have (and want to keep) trumps rights that I don’t have.
  16. Unless you have a pristine collector grade; not many care about “numbers matchingâ€. That won’t generally happen with rifles that saw combat. I put my original stock away and purchased an unfinished new walnut stock from Wenig. CMP and Boyds also sells them. Wenig Custom Gunstocks, Inc. Stock Sets Replacement Stocks for M1 Garands
  17. I have my house and vehicles through State farm. I don’t know if it’s changed since I moved to Tennessee, but in Illinois theft from my vehicle was covered on my vehicle comprehensive and had no deductable.
  18. Okay, let us know how things work out.
  19. I’m always leery of that. You see people that buy a DPMS or M&P lower and a bottom feeder rifle kit. Then it ends up in the for sale section as a DPMS or an M&P.
  20. Exactly I also am pretty sure how Judges would see this. They would see that they are dealing with either two very immature individuals or two nut cases. Two that are armed. If weapons came to play in this in any way, either intentionally or accidentally through your reckless conduct; I think the Judge would make sure both your carry permits were revoked. Do what you want to each other, but if weapons come into play in something this stupid; you have put the public at risk Trying to make an argument that you have some kind of legal right to bully someone, either with your vehicle or your person shows that you don’t know much about the law.
  21. Short answer is no, they don’t have memberships. But you do need to satisfy the eligibility requirements listed here… Eligibility Requirements
  22. If in doubt, unload and secure your firearm while on track property.
  23. You are calling someone paranoid and you posted this? If Martial Law is invoked you and the Police will probably have bigger problems to deal with than cops taking your guns.
