  1. He was a criminal. He was later arrested and fired. Does that make all cops bad? I don’t blame cops in general for what happened to me; I blame that cop. EDIT: Oh yea, I almost forget. I was guilty as hell. I thought I understood the 2nd amendment…. I was wrong. And by making that decision to break the law I gave him the opportunity to screw me over. I knew I was facing a bad cop and still couldn’t keep my mouth shut.
  2. It wasn’t posted as a question it was posted to elicit a response; it has done that. Now you want to whine a cry about the responses it got? Grow up. Don’t take aim at a group of good people like cops and expect us all to get on the bandwagon; it won’t happen. I served in both the military and as a cop. I’m as proud of one as I am the other. I wouldn’t stand around silently while you rip on the military and I won’t do it while you rip on cops. This thread is going exactly the way it was intended. Take one side or the other, but don’t stand on the sidelines and cry.
  3. I don’t see anyone rushing to defend bad cops. We all know they exist; especially those of us that are, or have been a Police officer. You refer to your job and the wealth of information you have. I would be curious to know exactly what that job is. You started on this forum leading is to believe you are a cop. I now doubt that. You have called yourself an “Investigatorâ€; for who? I’m curious as to your agenda and what you ideas are on fixing the problem. How is lumping all cops into one group any different that lumping all people with guns into one group? Giving opinions on specific Police incidents is one thing. Making general statements about cops is as ignorant as lumping permit holders and criminals together or making general statements about a minority. If you want to go on a cop bashing tirade there are forums for that. I’ve seen links posted here. Maybe you can go there and have lengthy discussions with your cop hating buddies and feel better about yourself.
  4. Redneck holding Oxy/Acet torch… Give me your Kimber and hold my beer. Preppy, OCing a Kimber…. Okay? Redneck holding Oxy/Acet torch… There. I turned your $1000 Kimber into a $4000 Kimber. Now go get me another beer.
  5. I have voiced my opinion on States Rights many times here as they apply to gun laws, and I am hoping that States Rights will be the very thing that will stop this health care calamity from becoming law. As of yesterday I heard that 12 states have said they will legally challenge this. Our future in this matter is now in the hands of the state of Tennessee. Let’s see what our legislators and other elected officials do.
  6. I’ve seen this posed here before; is this true? Because in other states I have been in you can’t be arrested for stealing from your spouse; it's a civil situation, not a criminal one. Is this a Tennessee thing?

    GLOCK 36........

I don’t think it would fire. The .45 GAP is shorter, so I doubt the firing pin would hit the primer. But if it did it would not be good; I wouldn’t try it.
  8. On landing operations I was a Mike Boat Engineer. I could drop you feet dry, for a nice stroll onto the beach…. Or I could drop you in 12 feet of water and you would wonder if you were going to live through the next few minutes. I got along just fine with the Marines. I respected them and they understood that they were a guest on my ship. I would say that is accurate. I would also say that may be why I am more concerned about the caliber issue. In most Police shootings the perp is feet away and your goal is to make him unable or unwilling to fire his weapon at all. If he gets to fire his weapon chances are you are not going to have a good day.
  9. I went to Greene Military on Lebanon Pike today and picked up a pair of Hatch Street Guard X11’s. They will be great for double duty as shooting and summer motorcycle gloves. Greene’s had a very large selection. I was glad I got to try them all on before making a choice.
  10. You are absolutely right, that is why I was asking. I served in the Navy during Vietnam. I was not in combat. I served on an amphibious assault ship (300 Navy crew and 1000 Marines). I put the Marines on the beach and went back and ate breakfast and took a nap. I have been in combat in this country though if that counts. I had a car to carry all my stuff in though.
  11. Call the Navy. I don’t know if that’s how they do it nowadays, but that’s how it use to be done.
  12. Why is that? From what I see there are more vehicles available than any war in history. I mean let’s face it; you aren’t in the jungles of Vietnam; you are operating in a country with freeways…. Right? What is the weight difference? And how many rounds would you need to carry if you had the more powerful 7.62 NATO?
  13. I guess it boils down to the question of “Can you have one all around combat round?†I think that round would be the 7.62 NATO for a rifleman. But if you need something more controllable for full auto the 7.62X39 might be an option. As far as its long range performance I don’t know what it would be. I have never heard of it being fired from a quality platform; have you?
  14. I would think most combat soldiers would be firing semi-auto. But if you want to spray and pray why reinvent the wheel? What’s wrong with 7.62x39? It’s a combat proven performer, is available all over the world and is better than the .223.
  15. I’m not a hunter; you can’t shoot a deer with a .308 Winchester?
  16. Terry Waldens place at Manchester. 300 meter rifle range.
  17. Most people can read; it’s the interpretation and the intent part that causes trouble. Will and 6.8 you are both the same age I am. We have not had 2nd amendment rights our entire life, we don’t have them now, and I don’t see us having them before we die. My interpretation of 2nd amendment rights being that we can carry without paying the state for the right, and the laws do not change at the state line. However… with the rising crime rate and the court’s ruling that LE has no responsibility to protect us; we have both the right and the duty to protect ourselves. That right does not come from and should not depend on the 2nd amendment. If you tie that right to the 2nd amendment you are done before you get started. And yes, time does change things. In a society where the government has acknowledged that cops do not have a duty to protect us; that duty falls on us alone. We can’t protect ourselves against car jackers and gang bangers without firearms. My point? My battle is getting the government to acknowledge my right to protect myself; not interpreting what the 2nd amendment says. One does not depend of the other.
  18. What kind of range can you guys shoot this caliber at? I’m talking about target shooting, not knock down power or effective range. Can it punch paper accurately at 300 meters? I wonder because I don’t see any bolt gun offerings in this caliber.
  19. I didn’t read the whole thing, but I read part of it. It is just another paper saying what most of us have known since Vietnam; the .223 is POS round for combat. I can’t comment on the statements that the 6.8 is superior to the 7.62 NATO because I have never used the 6.8. But it would have to be one bad azz round to be better than the 7.62 NATO. Don’t forget they said the .223 was a better combat round than the 7.62 and we now know what kind of BS that turned out to be. Kill shots out 800 meters with a .223 are just internet I have a .308/7.62 NATO AR style weapon and I think it’s a shame that I can be better armed than our troops. I would like to think they are looking at change, but unfortunately I think the cost will be the deciding factor. Bullet technology my azz, we had better ammunition in WWII & Korea than we have now.
  20. You can get an excellent 1911 for under a grand. S&W, Kimber, and SA all have options for a $1000 or less if you look around. My Smith & Wesson SW1911 Stainless Target was right at $900 out the door (4 years ago). I had a Kimber Custom TLE II at the same time I paid about $750 for used. About a year ago I bought a used Kimber SIS Ultra for under a grand. The best thing you can do is to either find people that have what you are interested in or check with a local range and see if they have a quality 1911 and one of the Philippines guns (sold under several different names) so you can see why there is a price difference and if it is something you would want to pay for.
  21. In Illinois. I think the domestic violence laws are pretty much the same. The difference between the two states seems to be in the arrest.
  22. I agree. And do it without involving the cops. Violent women (and men) can be good liars and put your freedoms in jeopardy. Do not call the Police to handle your personal business for you.
  23. Anyone have one? I’m curious to see the results (Range and Accuracy) of this round vs. .223 when both are tested from S&W M&P’s. What is the cost and availability of 5.45x39? Smith & Wesson M&P15R 5.45x39 Rifle
