  1. BTW, this is about the ONLY thing that this state does in a not-totally-messed-up way! When I background a guy, the system doesn't know who I am, or whether we're talking about 1 gun or 100, or anything else. It's just "Is this guy ok" Y or N I do understand that this could be hard to believe! I've done it many times, too many to say on any forum.
  2. You do not identify yourself when you run someone's FOID. You could do it at the public library. Obviously it would be smart to keep a personal record of having done it. Maybe take a photo of the screen, saying basically "He's OK" or a printout. Actually there is a printout form that the seller can print and would keep for his own records for 10 years, but none of the seller's info is on it. It has to be filled in manually. [ EDIT... as with ink on paper. ] The system doesn't know. I don't see how it would be hard to prove that you ran someone through the system. And I've never heard of the issue actually coming up.
  3. In ILLannoy, as many of you know, we have the much-hated FOID sytem. "Firearm Owners Identification Card." It's $10 and good for 10 years. You need one to buy guns or ammo. There is no registration or licensing of any specific firearms, or ammo. A FOID card does not function as evidence that you actually own any guns or ammo. It's just a card that indicates you've passed a background check and are legal to own same. The database is updated daily. So for a private sale in this fine state, you, either by phone or online, get into the state police system, put in the FOID# and birthdate of the buyer, and you either get an ok to transfer, or a not ok, good for 30 days. You are absolved from responsibility if the person that the system said was a good guy turns out to be a bad guy. There is no record of any specific gun, serial #, etc. There is zero information about any gun filed anywhere. When you run the check on the buyer, there is not even anything that would lead to a conclusion that a sale of anything is occuring. If a sale does happen, there is, as in every state, a requirement that the seller personally retains the buyer's name, address, and firearm specifics for 10 years. Oh, and it is actually free. Imagine that in this Gotcha state! I'm not advocating this system, just saying what it is. You at least get some comfort level, and legal protection, that your buyer is not a bad guy. Obviously the big fear about the FOID system is that it starts down the slippery slope toward gun registration. Nothing like that has happened in a couple of decades, even in this sorry state. The libtards seem much more interested in banning so-called "assault weapons" and "high capacity magazines" in this state, for now. I'll be outta here be the time that happens. Bottom line, the FOID system solves the so-called "Gun Show Loophole." Would I recommend it for other states to adopt? No way. I don't think many states could resist the temptation to sneak the system into a gun registry or licensing scheme, if things keep sliding the way they seem to be sliding in so many places today. So why did I write this? Just wanted to point out that background checks for private citizens can be free, and can reduce or eliminate the seller's liability. If the legislators in Tennessee start to get goofy, it could be an option. I have every confidence that legislators everywhere can come up with way worse systems. NO, I am NOT advocating that my soon-to-be-state of Tennessee should adopt a FOID card system!!!!! I just thought this group should understand it as one alternative in case the powers-that-be start getting stupid down there. I hope that was useful! I do really enjoy this group.
  4. Broward County Sheriff's Office Deputies Association just voted 534 out of 628 "NO CONFIDENCE" in their not-so-esteemed leader. When he described his leadership as "amazing" --- well, it's amazing all right! http://www.foxnews.c...iff-israel.html Let's see if the main stream media even picks this story up.
  5. As to love and attention from the media, if the hero had just shot the perp, I vote yes for the attention, which would be brief, and no for the love. I don't see any hint of media ever making any defensive gun use look good.
  6. Just saw this topic. Funny because my tube of TW25b just arrived from Amazon today. I've read several places that this is the gun grease used by all branches of our armed forces.
  7. Just to expound upon that a bit: Tremendous poise for a teenager under pressure. I suspect he did just fine with those bully cops. Scott Israel, the Sheriff of Broward County, is under ferocious attack from his own deputies. This may put a nail, if not the nail, in his professional coffin. Bye Bye Scott! All he's done in handling a tragic shooting was to introduce cowardice, confusion, and misleading conclusions into the psyche of a terrorized local citizenry. And beyond that, he helped rile up half the country with fake news and a phony agenda that caught fire with Emma and Hogg. We haven't heard the last of the Sheriff. I predict he's got some very tough days ahead, and will need some damn good lawyers. Stay tuned.
  8. Teen Kyle was a guest of Tucker Carlson on Fox tonight, and both did a great job. Looks like that dumb sheriff has even more problems after this fiasco. His deputies are all turning on him. Truth may actually prevail! Sayonara Scott Israel! You heard it here first. Ok, well, maybe not. But bye bye Scott anyway.
  9. With a 2 million dollar bond.. Smh wtf... Bond has been revoked. Maybe the judge heard that daddy was about to show up with $200,000. Imagine letting that guy go!
  10. Nah. We've got to stretch this out for years, spend millions of dollars of the taxpayers money, and let the perp pile up a mountain of sicko love letters from some very strange women. Just like the kid in Florida. Besides, if we just strung him up, he wouldn't be as good of a poster boy for gun control.
  11. Here's how it works (or doesn't) in IL, from a Chicago Tribune article last year: But when a FOID card is rescinded, Illinois State Police do not typically go to homes to confiscate that person's guns. State police Master Sgt. Matt Boerwinkle said the agency doesn't have the manpower to do that statewide, and rely on local police to follow up. Some local departments check on expired FOID card holders, he said, but many do not. Instead, state troopers merely send a notice of the revocation to the cardholder and to local police. By law, the person must send a form to state police listing his or her guns and identifying another active FOID holder who will hold the guns during the revocation. Police may not seize guns from a revoked FOID holder unless the holder fails to submit the form. Failing to do so is a misdemeanor and authorizes police to search for and seize the guns, but officials say that rarely happens unless the person is stopped for some other violation.
  12. You're right. What a total waste. Discounting or donating them to law enforcement, or the armed forces, would have been perfect. After all, these are "military grade" "weapons of war." But then again, a lot of the Antis hate the cops, and the armed forces too. Oh well....................
  13. That would certainly amaze a lotta folks. Everywhere. The Court is 4-3 Dems vs Rs.
  14. LWW is what we politely refer to some of our politicians as. Stands for Left Wing Wacko .
  15. The LWWs down in Springfield are, literally as we speak, trying to jam through a bill that would make it a Class X felony to possess a bump stock. Punishable by........wait for it!.......and wait some more, because the penalty is 30 years in prison. Outta here soon..........
  16. Back in the 1980s, Dan Wessons had more shooting titles than all other brands combined, getting 70-80% of steel silhouette championships. Check this out: http://www.shootingtimes.com/handguns/handgun_reviews_wesson_041306/ They are fantastic shooters. You can buy them very reasonably priced, but not often, at gunauction.com or gunbroker.com They should be priced way higher than the $700 or so that I see winning bids from time to time.
  17. Oh, Damn that sounds like good advice! Though I might need 2or 3 of those! But Yeah! Or maybe 1.... Anyway, gotta get this done.....!!!!!!
  18. Can't wait till we get to Tennessee..............................!
  19. Ohhhhhhhh yeaaaaaaa! http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2018/04/john-boch/dicks-has-trouble-filling-shelf-space-as-sales-sag/
  20. I'm having a little trouble imagining the concept of a liberal judge -- with a good conscience..........
  21. Man, you guys are good! I studied Wickard in law school at Kansas way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. (Boo, March Madness.....guess there's always next year!) Seems to me our society would have to make a huuuge turn to the conservative side before we'd ever see SCOTUS unravel Wickard. I just can't see the court doing something that momentous without the stage having been completely set. In other words, I see the court as following more than leading in matters like this. And if they're following, I don't see where all the massive disruption would come from. Am I missing something? This is a fascinating topic.
  22. Agreed. What I meant to say is that we've got to get the right folks on the bench at SCOTUS in this presidential term. We may not have another chance for a long long time.
  23. I sure hope all of this ultimately has a good ending. The gun grabbers are really getting energized. We've got to get SCOTUS on board in this term.
