  1. I used the XD 40 they had there and liked it quite a bit. I ended up getting a 98 on the shooting portion of the test, not bad for someone that has only shot one other handgun his entire life. I plan on going back to try out a couple more of the 40's before i decide on which one to get. I leaning towards the XDm but want to shoot both a Glock and S&W M&P before I decide.
  2. My instructor was Dave Pienaar, I thought he was very informative and kept things interesting.
  3. Thanks for all of the responses. I had my class this week at Range USA and they were great. I enjoyed the instructor and they have a real nice shop there. I will defiantly be going back out there to do business. Thanks again.
  4. Hey all, I am going to the range tomorrow for the first time and had a questions about eye protection. I wear glasses but didn't know if I need safety glasses over my normal glasses. I have looked everywhere and cannot find anything that would fit over my glasses. Thanks

    XDm 40

I will be purchasing my first hand gun in the next week or so and I had a question. I am looking at getting a XDm40, S&W M&P 40 or possibly the Glock 23, I believe. I called Rangemasters the other day to find out about their classes and asked them about the XDm 40. The guy said that they recommed the XD 40 over the XDm 40 because of a slide issue or something like that. Have any of you hear of this before? All I see online is how great the XDm series is so this kind of suprised me. Thanks
  6. I would be considered a newbie but talking to Range USA on the phone today they only asked if I would be comfortable getting the gun ready to fire. I think I could do that but if I needed help with some of the basics would they help with that also?

    Best transfer price

Man that is good. I called around town here in Memphis on Friday and everyone here wants $40 + the $10 TICS fee.
  8. Yeah, it was part of the continuing education program but they said there was not enough people in the class so they canceled it. I was not going to take the class there but my father in law, who I was taking the class with, knew the instructor so that is why we scheduled there. Thanks for all of the quick responses.
  9. I just got a call that the HCP class I was signed up for at the U of M has been canceled. I signed up for this class almost two months ago and it was for tomorrow. Needless to say I am pissed. I waited that long to get in to one and now the day before they call and say I will have to wait at least another month to get in another class... Sorry just had to get that out. Where do you recommend taking the class in Memphis? I know of RangeUSA and Rangemasters but didn't know if one was better than the other. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  10. Thanks everyone. It looks like RangeUSA has all three guns that I am thinking about so I will go out there in the next week or so and try all three to see which fits me the best. Thanks again for all of the help and advice.
  11. Thanks for the responses. Is there anywhere in Memphis where I can rent these guns and try them?
  12. The only one of the three I have shot is the SKS and that was many years ago, way before I was interested in getting a gun so I didn't pay much attention to it. I have heard great things about the AR's but I thought they would be too hard to get hold of, plus they are quite expensive. I have around $600 to spend on a handgun and I want to make sure I get something good there for sure. I am just looking at getting some type of semi while I stll can and while they are still avaliable. I would just rather not spend another $600 to $1000 now when I can get something that would meet what I am looking for in the price range I have avaliable. Thanks for all of the responses. I am looking forward to hearing more.
  13. Thanks for the responses, can you give me some examples of "entry level ar-15". I am very new to all of this. Talking to a buddy of my in the army last night, he mentioned he had an Olympic Arms AR-15. I didn't know if this was high end or not. So I guess something like a SKS is not a good choice? Thanks again.
  14. Hey all, I am new to firearms and am looking for my first semi auto. I have a Mosin 91/30, which got me in to firearms, and I am also looking for my first handgun but I wanted to get a semi auto before things get too hard to get. What are some of your opinions for a descent semi. I like the history with milsurps but dont know that I can afford a Garand now. I have had a couple of people mention SKS's as an option and have found a Yugo M59/66 for around $275 which seemed like a good deal. I appreciate any advice you can give.
  15. Hey all, I am new here and to firearms in general. I have signed up for a firearms safety class soon and want to get my first handgun. I was leaning towards a SA XDm 40 or a SW M&P40, specifically the XDm because I went out to handle some the other day and I liked the way that one felt. I have a buddy in the army that I talked to last night, a lifelong gun person, and he said that there is nothing better than a Glock and I really need to check one out. i am not opposed to that but being a noob with guns I like that the XDm has a couple of different safeties. I think I would be very careful with them but it would probably make me feel better to have that extra protection. What do you think? Are there any other guns I should check out while i am looking. i am looking to spend around $600 and want to get something good for my money. Thanks for any help.
  16. Hi all, I am new to firearms and wanted to say hi. I have started with a Mosin 91/30 and a Winchester 22 and will be taking a firearms safety class soon. I am also looking to get some type of handgun in the near future. I have really enjoyed your site and look forward learning much more about this new interest.
