  1. I really like the feel and finish on the Spikes lowers.  I have felt some of the PSA lowers but don't like they way they feel, not smooth enough or just don't feel as good as the Spikes.   Which lowers, that are inexpensive, have the same type of finish that the Spikes have?   Thanks
  2. +1 for a J frame.   As for semi-auto, I enjoyed shooting the Shield I tried but it just wasn't the right shape to fit a pocket.  Very difficult to get out of the pocket without snagging something.
  3. To the best of my knowledge the car has not been wrecked or driven real hard.  Of course I got it pre-certified used so there is no way to really tell how hard it had been driven but I did have it checked out before I bought it and they said it looked good.  The one thing I'm not sure of is if the repair shop I took it to is being honest about the struts so I'm for sure getting a second opinion.  There's a good chance they are just trying to up-sell parts/services, which they have tried in the past on a stepsons vehicle, and that is what I was trying to catch by coming to you guys.   Thanks everyone. I appreciate all of the advice.
  4. Thanks for all of the responses.    Peejman, I have about 80,000 on the car now. I bought it used about two years ago with about 35,000 or 40,000.   Bersaguy, you named one of the shops that I originally took it to and because of past experiences I am very weary about being up-sold parts and services I don't need.  Of course as you can tell by this post car repair is not my forte so I'm looking for a good trustworthy repair shop now.   So it sounds like they are telling the truth from what I'm hearing here.  With that being the case does $1100 sound like too much for front struts, two new tires and an alignment?
  5. Is it possible for struts going bad to cause uneven wear on tires?   I have an 08 Camary with a vibration in the steering wheel so I took it to a national repair shop. I thought it was the normal tire balance issue but they said that the struts were going bad which caused premature wear on the outside treads of the front tires.  They said that I needed front struts, two new front tires and an alignment to fix the steering wheel shaking.   My question is if I get two new front tires with an alignment would the fact that my struts are going "bad" cause the same uneven wear on the front tires?
  6. Anyone been by here lately and know if they are currently posted?  My trip in March was canceled but I may be up that way next week and wanted to check on the status.   Thanks
  7. I had the Lansky system but moved over to the Spyderco Sharpmaker.   While the Lansky was good it was a little more cumbersome getting everything attached and ready to use.  With the Spyderco you just put the stones in and get to work.  Spyderco seems much better to me.
  8. The local news listed the school as Northwest Prep Academy, not sure what they are prepping them for though...   Hopson is Shelby County School Superintendent and Armstrong is Memphis Police Director. Don't really keep up with Hopson since we started home schooling the kids so can't really say much about him.
  9. I figured the A stamp was the kids way of marking Alexandria people or at least making Rick feel part of Alexandria.
  10. I would say they were probably a couple of inches deep but there were tons on them going both ways, although headed west did seem better, it seemed like.  Looked like they had been patched before  but between the freezing and erosion they just got worse.  Of course our minivan has a lot of road noise and you can normally really feel any bumps so that just made it worse.   Didn't know if it was just a county issue since they seemed to be where the biggest collection of them were between Memphis and Nashville.
  11. Took a road trip up to Nashville to catch a hockey game this weekend and noticed the roads west of I-40 were awful.  There were a few places here and there where we had to watch for holes along the way but eastbound and westbound just west of the river was ridiculous.   Anyone know what's up with that?
  12. Hey David,   You plan on being there all day Sunday?
  13. Thanks for the responses everyone.  After some research I think I'm might give the N82 a try.
  14. I've noticed that the Shield doesn't seem to be as "pocket carry" friendly as say a S&W 442, both in their respective DeSantis Nemesis holster.  It seems that the 442 is much easier to pull from the pocket and that the Shield gets stuck trying to get it out of the pocket, probably because the 442 has just that curved back as opposed to the squared slide of the Shield.   I have always used Crossbreed and love them but it would be much easier to just clip it to the pants with a single clip compared to having to undo the pants to get the double clips attached.  That being said has anyone tried an IWB holster with a single clip for the Shield?   Thanks
  15. I'll be going in March so hopefully it still will not be posted.
  16. Yes they are still doing this.  I was in Academy last week listening to a customer talk to the gun guy behind the counter.  The customer was telling him that he hated he missed the last batch of .22's that came in because he could still mark it up and make quite a bit of money...
  17. I saw this through a friend on Facebook and thought it was pretty funny.  He has another one, see below, on How To Be An Operator which I thought was pretty funny too but since I wasn't in the military I don't know all of the acronyms for the groups they are talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf0R7n02owM
  18. I do but like maroonandwhite said I'd rather have a 19 mag in while carrying and use the 17 mag for reloads.
  19. Hopefully they will have the ones for the G19 by then also.
  20. Well I gave it a shot just to see if it would move any and after a minute or two of a hammer and punch it fell right out.  Didn't take too much hammering and luckily I had a punch that just fit the area I needed to cover.   Thanks for the recommendations.  I now have this thing setup for an Appleseed shoot.
  21. I had read some nightmare stories about them being so tight you would need Thor to hammer it out.  On top of that I don't have a vise to hold the barrel.   It it really is that easy though I might consider it, I just don't want to mess anything up on it.
  22. Can anyone recommend a gunsmith in the Memphis area that can take the front sight off a Ruger 10/22?  I got one for Christmas along with some Tech-SIGHTS and can install the new sights but don't have the tools to remove the factory front sight.   Thanks
