  1. They were great folks @DeepSouth and helped me out quite often. Gordon (Dolomite) was very well versed on the whole AK platform, including reloading (handloading was the term that stuck with me from them.) Great guy and truly missed. That's great that your dad knew and interacted with them. Prayers out for them all. Hope you find the info you need. Best of luck to you.
  2. I, unfortunately, must live vicariously through the pics you guys post for now. I had surgery on my ankle last week (Tendons and ligaments reattached, bone removed, and some brand spanking new titanium!). I still hope to get some tomatoes and bell peppers in the ground eventually. Thankfully there's a Farmer's market just down the road (Dixie Lee). So I'm counting on you guys to post pics! Getting old sucks!
  3. While I don't buy and sell a lot on here I have always, seriously ALWAYS, had good experiences here at TGO. Generally the guns I purchase are in better shape than described in their listings. Folks tend to be modest in their descriptors and earnest in not wanting to mislead other members of our community. I don't "Collect" and I shoot my guns. I had to replace the slide and barrel on my G19 a few months back...50K plus rounds over the years and it will probably outlast me at this point. I have a good bud, with deep pockets, and he owns several new guns he's never shot...purchased strictly for collectible purposes. Others he shoots a few cylinders or mags through and puts back in his safes. So I have no difficulty believing some of the guns listed here are LNIB or even new. Heck, I bought a couple of LCR's last year that you couldn't even see the turn lines on. Again, modest in description and I was more than pleased. I too, do shake my head at the sometimes outlandish assortments of attachments and "upgrades" that could only possibly appeal to the person that stuck the assorted "accoutrements" together. Hint: put the gun back towards it's original state and sell the other "stuff" separately...or not... But I like my guns as near to factory original as possible. That gives me the option of screwing them up if I choose...
  4. Your post kinda reads like you were going to post a pic of the label. Maybe I'm misreading it. There used to be a great guy on here (back in the "Dolomite" days), Mr.David (DLM or DLM37015) iirc that ran the gunshow circuit with his daughter (Sam?). He was a wealth of information on surplus powders...so was Dolo. I haven't seen any postings from or about them in years (and wish them the best) but you may find something doing a deep dive search on here, or the interwebs in general. Having the numerical data, lot number etc, could prove helpful if you have that available. Good luck in your search.
  5. My mother grew a mimosa tree. Always. No matter where we lived. Said she like their looks. I think it was specifically for the incredible durability and flexibility of the switches she would make me go and break off. She had a remarkable grip for a small woman and no matter how hard and fast I ran in a circle as she gripped my wrist, she never lost her rhythm. I cut down every mimosa tree I run across still to this day I loved her...but she had that Southern woman "don't mess with me" thing going on...
  6. That's a heck of a deal @Moped! I have to force myself to stay away from the gun stores you frequent! I'd be paying on layaways the rest of my life LOL
  7. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
  8. Is this the thread you are referencing @Grayfox54? @Spots is right. Randy does an excellent job discussing the legality and intricacies of carrying an impact under current TN law. At least current as far as I know. I still carry a sap even thought the class we hosted was in 2006. No problems since. But it can very easily run into a lethal force option/situation. I'd recommend talking to Randy, even better taking a class with him. But that's just me.
  9. Yeah, I kinda stumble on it and ,of course, watched the first 2 in spite of myself... I have hope. But frequently that ends in disappointment. Keeping my fingers crossed this will be different.
  10. I've watched the first 2 episodes of the newly worked and released "Shogun" on Hulu. It's darker and grittier than the original 1980's mini-series based on James Clavell's book. It looks like it's got some potential. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2788316/
  11. Welcome from West Knoxville (Farragut). Welcome to the forum as well.
  12. Same concept exactly! Mountain Dew will probably give you a few more MPG... and kidney stones
  13. Possibly a repeat, but one of my favorites.
  14. LOL. What @ArmyBrat61 said. Couple that with reading scribbled kinda-cursive made up abbreviation medical documentation for the past 50+ years... Thanks @FUJIMO!
  15. I am not technologically savvy by any stretch. But my son and I were discussing the exponential development, and potential unintended consequences of such, just a few weeks ago. He sent me a link to a Youtube vid by Marques Brownlee just this morning on Sora. Mr. Brownlee did a great job on this apolitical video. It's pretty incredible, remarkable actually, how much it's developed in so short of a time period. Of course I think back to the 1997 movie "Wag the Dog". But reality is so far beyond that now. And since my son and I often reference "Terminator" and SkyNet he ended his email with: "Not yet, not for about 40 years." -- Kyle Reese, 1984 Damn ETA: Didn't know if I could link the vid directly. It's titled : "AI Generated Videos Just Changed Forever"
  16. I haven't seen Loudermilk but definitely enjoyed Old Henry. Well made film and I believe filmed here in TN.
  17. Canning is an excellent and imho, necessary skill. I taught myself to pressure cans meats first as I figured everything else should be fairly easy. I too can dried beans as the beans can get hard over time and wind up crunchy, even after soaking overnight and a long crock pot cook. I use a ratio of 60/40 (40% dried beans to 60% water). I put a small amount of canning salt (it doesn't could up like iodized salt does). I just bear in mind seasonings are enhanced during the canning process and I figure I can always add additional seasoning after opening. I have home canned pinto beans, black beans, and black eyed peas in my basement pantry as I type this. Oh, dried beans. In my experience they start getting hard/tough after about 5-7 years...even in Mylar bags with o2 absorbers. YYMV I've read many warnings over the years about being really cautious including rice or pasta in the canning process as their absorption rate can negatively impact the safety of the process. Again YMMV I have canned gumbo using a small amount of rice and survived it. I've also canned Swedish meatballs in gravy and that went well. Back in the actual paper magazine days I subscribed to Back Homes magazine. I have several books I purchased through them and my most used are the Jackie Clay books. "Growing and Canning Your Own Food" is excellent imho. I think I bought mine in 2009. I know it didn't initially include a Table of Contents and Ms. Clay mailed it to me later on. I've even had email discussions with Ms. Clay when I was experimenting with various canning projects. Nice lady. https://www.backwoodshome.com/shop/product/growing-and-canning-your-own-food-2/ Back when bacon was semi affordable I gave a try at canning bacon using parchment paper, laying the bacon out on the paper and rolling it up. Worked great! I've also canned "Hot Wings" and spicy chicken legs and thighs. Great for a quick addition to a meal after a long days work. Thanks for starting this thread @gregintenn. Interesting stuff and an encouragement to do some more.
  18. IMHO Sam Gabbert (SG Ammo) runs a great business and demonstrated a much higher level of customer service than most general companies do these days. I use SG Ammo, Target Sports, BFGC, American Reloading, And Hoosier Bullets for most of my ammo and handloading purchases. I always purchase insurance when the option is offered. It's only a few more bucks relative to the cost of the purchase and buys me peace of mind. This "Extreme Weather Event" has delayed a couple of UPS/USPS & FedEx delivers recently for up to 2-3 weeks. I know it was a mess for everyone. We didn't have the US Mail run at all for a week and the first truck I saw had snow chains. USPS? They are a gamble at best anytime. If given the option I will always choose UPS or FedEx. Glad to read SG Ammo took care of you @pop pop. Enjoy your trip and best wishes on your pending surgery.
