1. I don't have a need either, but a friend recently mentioned that he in fact does.   What is the collective opinion as far as the quality and function of this gun?   He would be using it mainly for whitetail, here in TN and in upper Michigan... 200+/- yards at most.   Thanks for posting this Hozzie.
2. Obviously great advice all the way around.   I would like to add that once you choose a defensive round, invest in enough of it to insure that particular round functions as flawlessly as possible in your particular handgun of choice. All firearms have their particularities and idiosyncrasies... I have seen Golden Sabers and Hydrashocks not want to chamber in certain guns while functioning flawlessly in like models. It simply sometimes happens.   I generally purchase my chosen defensive rounds in 500 round lots and run at least 100 rounds through that particular gun to ensure a level of reliability. It's a bit of an investment, but well worth the price imho.   Another thought: At times we chamber and rechamber the top rounds in our magazines. This can be because we have to unload the run for various reasons....cleaning, changing out for practice mags/rounds and then rechambering our carry ammo and I'm certain many other examples exist. There is the potential for a bullet setback to occur in this process and could potentially lead to a pressure spike or variation at the least. I make it a habit to shoot a mag or two of my carry ammo at least once a year. This will ensure I have "fresh" carry ammo in my handgun, as well as help me to verify my point of aim/point of impact remains as where I think it should be.   When I carried a 45 acp I carried Hydrashocks as well. I've seen at least 2 individuals shot with them and they performed just as advertised...not so much so in the 9mm shootings I've seen with them...   I currently carry 124 gr Gold Dot plus P Black Hills in my 9mm's...but there are many quality self defense rounds available. Just pick one that give you as close to 100% reliability as possible...and hit the range...better yet...go to a quality class and give some of them a try. Win-Win imho. :2cents:
3. I appreciate that my friend, but I actually have a few and just need to run them down...too many book shelves in too many rooms. Not that bad a problem really. :pleased:
4.   Rationalization is a beautiful thing... :pleased:
5. Challenge accepted hipower! LOL. I need to reread them anyway my friend.
6. I have to admit that the Sam I have pictured in my mind (from Joe's description as I have no friggin' imagination) is pretty darn hot! So I'll probably read the next installment... :pleased:   That's it...I have achieved dirty old man status...bout time! LOL
7. It's raining here too. So to celebrate we went shooting this morning. We ran about an hour of low light - no light handgun at an indoor range, then stood under the shelter and shot steel with long guns and handguns at 25-50-75 yards. It was a good morning!   But it's also a good day for handloading. btw..I finally picked up a Little Crow WTF. That sucker is awesome! It'll comfortably trim 500 pieces of 5.56 brass an hour. Now I need to go down to the basement prime those 700 trimmed pieces...Life is Good! :pleased:
8. LOL. What happened? You can tell us...       And yes...I agree..there are bad influences on board here...but I'm glad they are.
9. Just bumping this one back up to see if anyone is reading anything interesting. I also wanted to mention, that for a limited time, Matt Bracken is offering his excellent "Enemies Trilogy" for free (Kindle) on Amazon.   https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2015/12/01/fire-mission-bracken-trilogy-offer/   And while not a book, Bracken has an extremely well written essay regarding the current world situation...entitled "Tet Take 2: Islam's 2016 European Offensive". Bracken does a great job in explaining his take on the current status of Islam - International Socialism - and Nationalism. imho it is more than worth the time it takes to read it. He draws many conclusions I've read and else where but has the ability to articulate much more succinctly than I could ever hope to do.   Here's that link: https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2015/11/29/bracken-tet-take-two-islams-2016-european-offensive/       fwiw, I found "Succession ll" by Joe Nobody to be so-so. The lead characters were just too super-hero laid back West Texas for my tastes...Oh Well. :squint:     I am currently reading "Left of Bang". It's about the Marine Corps Combat Hunter program and has some excellent material therein. It's more of a "militarized" version of Gavin de Becker's "Gift of Fear"...a must read even though not pro-gun. I almost feel I need to take notes on "Left of Bang" and will be putting it in my small library next to "Gift of Fear" when I'm done. :2cents:     Link: http://www.amazon.com/Patrick-Van-Horne-Left-Bang/dp/B00N4EJEZQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1449000087&sr=1-2&keywords=left+of+bang+how+the+marine+corps%27+combat+hunter+program+can+save+your+life   Link: http://www.amazon.com/Other-Survival-Signals-Protect-Violence/dp/0440508835/ref=pd_sim_14_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=51x0cj4i6yL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR105%2C160_&refRID=03D4XVRAMYQ4G4BH57BY
10. I think the major concerns have been thoughtfully addressed.   I carry factory loads in my semi-auto's...but carry handloads in my J Frame revolver because what I choose for my revolver is no longer manufactured.   If I couldn't get my preferred factory ammo, I wouldn't hesitate to carry handloads that I trust. But that's my decision alone.   Unscrupulous attorneys will do as they always do.  I can articulate why I do what I do and assume that risk.   Handgun rounds are horribly ineffective when compared to rifle or shotgun rounds. So multiple accurate shots are what counts in the final tally. Like comms said...a well placed .22 can kill a person...but there are plenty of examples of all handgun calibers and/or bullets failing. It's just a reality.   My advice is to carry whatever you trust. And practice with it or a reasonable facsimile a lot.   Good Luck and stay safe. We live in "interesting times"...
11. It's a beauty and proud you should be! Great job Ramjo!       Red...your avatar is simply too distracting! Thank you! :pleased:
12. Good points to both Ted and CnB.   I'll take knowledge and skills any day...but still put back my bean, bullets and bandaids. I have little to no faith in any government entity and especially what passes as our current fiat currency...
13. Thank you Bersa!   Hope you have a Blessed day with those you love as well Sir.
14.   probably so...make that definitely...but not to me.   I'm with Caster on this. I think I paid $10.00 for my Mechanix gloves and wouldn't dream of running my AK without 'em...too darn many sharp edges!
15.   Well...you have obviously been monitoring our recent conversations LOL. That is exactly the conclusions we reached.   Now I just need to get a 300 BLK upper and get my rear in gear.   Thanks Dolo.
16. Thanks Dolo. We are using Powder Buy the Pound..Red...and it's pretty sharp looking.   One of these days I'll have a weekend off when David is in town...one of these days...   Yeah. The brass finding challenge of 7.62x39 is the exact reason we are looking at switching to 300 BLK. We have a good supply of 5.56/.223 brass on hand already...so it's really a no-brainer in that regard.   I do plan to try revamping a few steel cases as I read that in another post you made. Intriguing concept...just costly to do so in bulk.   We'll be able to cast, coat, and load 300 BLK much more affordably.   I just want to get the 7.62x39 data and concept tweaked for just in case "hard times". You just never know these days.
17. We finally ventured into casting and powder coating 7.62x39...just in the fledgling stages at this point. Some 150 gr and some 130 gr bullets. Darn brass for 7.62x39 if hard to come by.   We plan to venture into 300 BLK...but down the road...we don't even have a 300 BLK yet between us. That'll probably be next year.   Any powder suggestion on the PC 7.62x39 Dolo?
18. Glad you found them dryviking. Bit of a challenge, isn't it? :pleased:   Lori and Phil are very accommodating folks. Good people imho and they do have some darn good prices and selection.   I could use some AA1680 as well. Guess I need to contact them too.
19. Some days I fell like a little Pink Floyd... others days maybe a little LInkin Park helps...ever have one of those day?     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qlCC1GOwFw
20.   Exactly Comms, and they store for a long, long time.   I've used powder and primers within the past year that I purchased in 1992-1992. 100% fine.   And bulk purchases of components help mitigate the cost of HazMat fees not to mention that 8 lb powder and 5K lots of primers are generally at a reduction over 1 lb containers of powder and 1K boxes of primers.   I encourage my non-handloading friends to purchase components now...because if they shoot enough, they'll eventually come around...
21.   Yes my friend. These may well be the closest we'll come to the Good ole Days in the foreseeable future.   As the saying goes: "Buy it cheap and stack it deep"...no need to regret it later.
22. About a year or so ago I actually phoned Lucky Gunner and spoke with a very nice lady there. She said their "business" is located in Knoxville, but they don't store/ship/house anything here. iirc she said they have a warehouse in or around Atlanta as stated above. But I agree, good folks and a good company.         I think the first order to your address and free shipping is still in place. A bud ordered 2 K of 9mm a few weeks back, as as his first order from them he was able to take advantage of this offer. I, and several friends, have use Freedom ammo before and have not had any problems with them.   SGAmmo is a site I use more times than not. Good prices and fast shipping = win/win in my book. :pleased:
23. Love me some sgammo!   I ordered a thousand rounds of Golden Tiger a few weeks back. From time of order to delivery was about 4 days. And that's normal for sgammo in my experience.   We did some low light/flashlight practice the other day and one of the guys was shooting some 9mm he recently received from Freedom (iirc it took about 7-10 days for delivery from the day he placed his order). He ran through about 150-200 rounds and had no issues with it in any way. I did note the muzzle flash was pretty bright compared to the Unique handloads that 3 of our group were using...no biggie...just an observation and in no way meaningful in practice ammo.
24.   LOL...Illusions and delusions my Brother. But you'd always be welcome.
25. OK...I officially now suffer from "ammo envy"...how embarrassing... :ugh: But Good for you guys! You're doing it right!
