Thank you! Ammo and Food...Hard to beat that. :pleased:

This one is getting close folks. The shotgun is not the trench broom nor alley sweeper of internet lore. But it is a very viable self defense/home defense tool...if you learn to use it correctly. Randy will equip you with that correct knowledge for your skill development. Come on out and get some myths destroyed and learn some valuable information in the process.

Excellent vid my friend! Cool headedness on the part of the would-be "victim". And a handshake from the responding officer! Win-Win. :pleased: -
How many here trust their life to your own reloads
Jamie Jackson replied to Ron Padilla's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I can handload much more accurate rounds for my AR (5.56) and AK (7.62x39) than I can afford to purchase. I do carry handloads for my J-frame 640 in .38 spl. These are the Cirillo/Fletcher "Safestop" duplicates...same powder, primer, bullets, OAL etc. All of my practice (handgun) 9mm rounds are from bullets we cast and powder coat (thanks to Dolomite on that!). Eventually we plan to work up some hollowpoint powder coated cast rounds and see how those function and expand...but that's still in the planning ( i.e. need the mold) stages at this point. I have heard the argument before about the potential issues with using homemade loads in a self defense shooting and there is definitely some validity to that concern...but I've never read of an actual case where it has been a deciding factor in the verdict. There may be one, I'm just unaware of it. I do carry factory self defense ammo...9mm Black Hills loaded 124 gr +P Gold Dots fwiw. But if push came to shove I'd roll my own. And be able to articulate why I did so. -
You can do it at Windrock Range if you are serious about this. Good folks out there and a nice facility. They have steel at 125 yards iirc...you can shoot rifle or pistol at it...I have. No not at head shot at 125 either...

Not pointing a finger at Glenn and I appreciate the head's up... But this is about all it takes to start another panic run these days... Primarily because with the current political climate anything seems probable. Guess I better order some more ammo... :squint:

highergr0und; I understand your concern or trepidation about taking a formal class early in your learning experiences, but believe my friend, this is the time to do so. Training "scars", ingrained deficiencies from repetition of less than correct acts, are easily developed in our beginning stages of learning. It takes a lot longer to "unlearn" a way of doing something than to learn the correct manner in the beginning...ask me how I know. I only wish I had the opportunities available now, and locally/regionally when I started my oft interrupted journey. Back then we had Cooper (Gunsite), Ray Chapman (Chapman Academy) and Mas Ayoob (LFI)... Quality instruction is available quite handily now days. I admit bias, as I've know Randy (Cruel Hand Luke) for a number of years and have trained with him several times. But Randy is definitely an instructor well worth your consideration. He has a gift for imparting quality information and helping you build the skills you need and do so correctly in the beginning. We had a gentleman attend the recent rifle class in the Knoxville area that had purchased his AR only a couple of days before the class and fired it there his first time. He did great under Randy's tutelage. While I'm not trying to be a commercial for Mr. Harris, I wholeheartedly recommend him when your time and schedule allows. True value for your training time and dollars. :2cents:

Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books
Jamie Jackson replied to plank white's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Me too Erik. As I mentioned above I've already pre-ordered it...took him a bit and definitely hope it holds true to form and quality. But judging by "Dies Irae: Day of Wrath" it shouldn't disappoint. -
IDPA's new(er) Divisions (?) CCP & NFC
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Thanks for the explanation and insight Randy. Logical, makes sense. Heck...I think I still have some Clinton-era 10 round mags around somewhere LOL. I guess, on one level at least, that IDPA is 'leaning" towards the self defense minded concealed carrier. Thanks all for your input and opinions. -
While I've not had the opportunity to attend one of these events yet... Windrock Range, Norseman Training, and Fighting Sheep Dog are bringing great things to our area. I am a member at Windrock and definitely enjoy shooting out there. Very gun friendly and training friendly outfit! Great folks as well. Thank you Fighting Sheep Dog...Rachel and John iirc and of Course Eric, Emily and Josh! As luck would have it I'm working May 17th, but I'll be there in spirit. :pleased:

IDPA's new(er) Divisions (?) CCP & NFC
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Thanks Craig. OK..then as I understand it, my G 26 would be optimal for CCP...probably best keep my 19 in ESP. That helps. You are, by far, the best "Range Lawyer" I know and I have your card to prove it! No know, RMR's are becoming more ubiquitous on carry guns in this country. It would only be logical to allow a Division where they could compete. I know some will argue cost...but facing reality, folks spend a fortune on their competition guns as it is...and regular EDC folks, like myself, can find some niche or other to fit into. It'd be a shame to ostracize people that carry RMR sighted handguns. Are handguns with mounted flashlights verboten as well guys? As I read through the Tiger Team reports and Rule book, I keep seeing mention of keeping IDPA "street realistic" (my term, not theirs)...but it's not looking that way to me... -
Sometimes I think IDPA is intentionally trying to confuse me...and that doesn't take a great deal as it is. OK...as I understand it there is now a CCP or Compact Carry Pistol Division. Then I read a discussion on Brian Enos about NFC or Not For Competition Division... I carry a Glock 19 and the grips are stippled...aftermarket sights, but bone stock other than that. The few matches I've been to, I shoot ESP. Now I know that IDPA wouldn't even consider something as realistic as AIWB carry...since that won't be an option, how do these other Division changes impact our area matches folks? fwiw ORSA is the only place I've shoot IDPA in TN. I'm hoping to shoot a classifier in a couple of weeks and shoot the Secret City sanctioned match in June. Thoughts and Insight appreciated. TIA.

scope or red dot with magnifier?
Jamie Jackson replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I just have RDS on my AR's and AK's, but I've run a scope on my AR and will occasionally use it at the range. A bud has an EoTech with magnifier and really likes it. There certainly seems to be a current trend of running lower yet variable powdered scopes on defensive rifles...1-4 with "aiming dots" and they do make a lot of sense to me, especially with my aging eyes. The magnification of a scope would certainly help, even at relatively close to moderate range, with target identification and discrimination. fwiw I recently picked up Primary Arms Advanced Red Dot and ran it, in the rain, in Randy's recent Rifle class. I am more than impressed with it. Links below. Well worth the money imho. But I haven't seen it run with a magnifier, so can't comment on that. https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_Advanced_Micro_Dot_with_Push_Buttons_p/md-ads.htm -
April 19 Knoxville Suarez Training Group
Jamie Jackson replied to Cruel Hand Luke's topic in Training Discussions
Amen as well GTG! Thank you for sharing the Prayer my friend. I'll share it as well. Excellent AAR . :pleased: -
LOL. I saw that. All over 1K as well as out of stock... I'm personally interested in one of the DDI AK's. Rumor has it they are coming out with an AK pistol designed to be more easily converted to a legal SBR. (not having to drill for a trunnion as I understand)...but I don't know the particulars. A bud of mine spoke with a rep at the NRA convention about it. We'll see what happens.

Holy Cow OS! What else am I missing? Good on Knoxville and TN! and Thanks for the info. I second the thought that factory direct purchasing would be great...if only...
-
They seem to be pretty well made. I'm guessing this is the outfit your bud was referring to OS. Not a lot of places building AK's around town. Here's a link to those crazy suckers at the AK Operators Union...NSFW Language...as usual...But they are rough on the guns they review...and entertaining...to me anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=UU0-nZ9dKQroaCr2MuAXeqyg&v=p6WtjNL2cNc

That is what a Glock should be! Well done Sir! There is no reason in the world not to modify and stipple that sucker. I own 3 and they have all been done so. Now that slide...Sweet! Something I need to consider. :pleased:

...That would be DDI or Destructive Devices Industries. Chapman Highway. By all accounts we have something pretty darn good going on in our own backyard. It seems they purchased the assets of Waffen Werks and are moving to make a quality AK. http://ddiarms.com/index.html https://www.facebook.com/pages/Destructive-Devices-Industries/726960474036519 I'm saving my lunchmoney.
