  1. Just got mine back from DW. While it wasn't great out of the box, they fixed it up and then some. The replaced the safety and added more beveling to the new safety. Really happy with it now and the trigger is a dream.
  2. I bought a specialist a few weeks ago. Got it delivered and had to turn around and send it right back to DW because the Ambi safety was so poorly fitted that it wouldn't even function. I'd read about poorly fitted ambi safeties on the web particularly with this model but figured that with DW's reputation for fit and finish that surely these were rare occurrences. Nope. Other than that, the gun appears to be ok. The finish work is a little overrated at least on mine. It's good, but nothing to write home about.
  3. Ha, yeah, now I'm going to keep an eye out for a DW .44. I used to own an sp101 revolver, but this is a completely different experience. I am hooked. Sunday was the most fun i've had shooting in a long time.
  4. I took this shooting today, and all I've gotta say is wow! I shoot this gun mmore accurately than anything I own or have owned. I was hitting 6" reactive targets at 50 yards and 6" steel at 30 yards without missing aall day. The single action trigger is unreal. The ddouble action is ok, but had a couple light primer strikes.
  5. Well, I've never bought a gun at a gun show before, but this one was too tempting and the price was nice. The single action trigger pull is absolutely perfect. To the range tomorrow:
  6. What I think the article needed was more speculation about questionable numbers. I also though that the human interest bookend was underdeveloped. It could have elicited much more pathos. If you can't get the important data, don't write the article. Goodbye long-form journalism.
  7. I too think that seeing firearms related crime as a percentage of total crime would be a better metric. I would also think that comparing firearm crime to drug crime and addiction statistics would be helpful. Mostly, however, I'd like to see how this all breaks down on a regional level. Tennessee is a wide state that encompasses a variety of social and economic demographics. As one last consideration, I think it would then be of interest to compare those regional numbers with number of legal gun sales and HCP holders.
  8. FWIW, I use a trident-9 suppressor on a Glock 19. I shoot outdoors and only use subsonic ammo. The noise difference is substantial. My neighbor 100 yards away can't tell I am shooting if he is inside his house. Outside, he says it sounds like a nailgun. It's also hearing safe for me without earplugs. I would suspect that indoors where he might have tried it, it might have sounded a lot louder than outside where the noise can dissipate without bouncing around. Also, subsonic vs. supersonic ammo makes a huge difference. Supersonic ammo sounds like a .22lr out of a suppressor. Subsonic sounds like a loud BB-Gun or nail-gun. If you reload, you can also tailor the ammo to the suppressor; some powders (I like N330) are significantly quieter, and cleaner in the can than others. I prefer 124gr bullets as keeping them subsonic generates less pressure, and thus less sound, but with the right powder will still cycle reliably. That said, a suppressor isn't going to sound like the movies, but with a good suppressor, that Glock 17 is one of the best candidates to get as quiet as a handgun can.

    .300 BLK?

I actually think this round is going to go mainstream in ways the 6.5 and 6.8 have been trying to. I'm going to get a short bbl as soon as cmmg releases them.
  10. They are the boot grips. I was worried that there would not be enough grip, but there is more than enough. I've got medium sized hands, and the fit wonderfully. Most other revolver grips I've tried dont feel substantial enough. These are a little thicker, and feel great. Recoil feels a little different than with hogues, but not bad at all even with full power loads.
  11. Thanks for the nice comments. I got to shoot this for the first time today since adding the new grips and front sight. Though the new grips are a lot smaller than the stock or hogue grips, they grip really well. I felt the gun actually stayed put much better with these on. They are wider than any of the other grips and I think that helps. Recoil was a little more noticeable, but I was shooting full power 158gr and 180gr 357 loads, and it was still very manageable. I am really happy with the new front sight. The sight picture is considerably crisper than with the stock sight and my groups tightened up a lot. Maybe it's because I learn to shoot on semi-autos, but the dot on the front sight works much better for me. Overall, I love this gun. My only hang up is I still don't feel comfortable carrying it, even though it actually conceals better than my USP compact. While it's a blast to shoot, I am so used to autos that it doesn't feel natural. In a tight spot, I would want to be pulling my USPc out of a holster.
  12. This is my first revolver, a 3" Sp101. I picked this up on the forum a few weeks ago and have added a meprolight front sight and Badger grips. I had the grips made with an extra cutout for use with a speedloader.
  13. The lasermaxes are notorious for messing up Glock 19s. Just do a quick google search. Some seem to think it messes with the frame rigidity. Whatever the issue is, there certainly appears to be one.
  14. I was thinking about this the other day. I've actually been there at one point in the last year, but quickly replenished. For me if I could only have one gun, it would be a handgun, and my HK USPc .40.
  15. I just called to set up a transfer yesterday. Still $20 + $10 in Alcoa.
  16. Well, one right here that would have liked the freedom to carry to work. And from those I talk to there, lots more.
  17. I just picked up a used 3". When I looked at these first I though nonway this conceals. Turns out it conceals wonderfully IWB. Every bit as well as my old glock 26
  18. Not to be a stickler, but getting the gun checked could help bring someone to justice if it was in fact used in a crime.
  19. I paid $499 for the threaded kit m&p9. That's gun and two barrels. There is no way you should pay more than $500 for an m&p
  20. I like them on the P30, but I don't miss them a lick on my USPc and it's a brick.
  21. I just shop and transfer at Bill's now. Best prices in town on guns and transfers, but there customer service is the real sell.
  22. Also, my recommendation would be to find a gently used USP compact. That's what I did. Should run $500-$600.
  23. Over the life of the gun, you are going to spend much much more on ammo than you are the gun itself. In short, don't skimp. Also, don't get hung up on barrel length. In 99% of peoples' hands, a 3 inch bbl will be just as accurate as a five incher. There will be some difference in velocity but it is negligible. If you want to see some great shooting with a short barrel, look on YouTube for Hikock45 and his Glock 26 and 27 videos.
