  1. True, but thats how most of the liberal states are. Need a permit to buy from a gun shop and an individual.
  2. And its not even April 1st anymore-lol. Well if its a prank, they used the ATF email NFA@atf.gov and phone # that seem correct.
  3. Along these lines, I'm wondering if anyone else on here has gotten an email from the ATF in response to any 'for sale' ads? I have an ad for a gun in the 'E-Classfieds', an Eastman buy/sell/trade site here in E TN. Been trying to sell it for a awhile and every few weeks I put the ad back up for a few days. Got an email from a Hank Schrader of the ATF telling me of the penalties for selling guns without a license etc. I'm wondering if someone sees my ads and thinks they are for all different guns? I responded to the email, and they told me to contact my local office. Its in Greeneville, but I havent tried calling them yet. I'm assuming they arent singling me out since I dont sell that many guns-lol. I see plenty of the same names on the 'for sale' sites all the time, those folks are selling a lot more guns than me.
  4. Ive always been a fan of smooth wood grips on any gun
  5. Yes I do have a modest pension from there. Not that long ago cops and firefighters were allowed to use their overtime and sick time buyout to inflate the pensions by quite a lot, but that was stopped before I retired. Story of my life-lol. Actually some of my buddies tell me the welfare is so good there now, that if you are collecting from all of the different programs available, its like making more than our pensions.
  6. I'll say this about sales tax. I think TN has the right idea with their higher sales tax. Back in CT, sales tax was low but all the other taxes were high. At least here, even people visiting, or just driving thru are helping to pay the state. Its not just on the shoulders of the homeowners like many other states. And, I know y'all like to bitch about rich, liberal people moving here, raising the real estate prices etc. But try not to lump all of us together. I was a firefighter in CT, definitely not a job to have if you want to get rich. CT is like most other states, where the cities are liberal but the outlying rural areas are not. Me and all my friends are conservative, gun loving, hunters, hard working folks just like you. I moved here to get away from those winters. Not to try to change the political climate here. And most of the folks I have met here are the same. I know more liberals that are locals than I do folks that recently moved here.
  7. Not an equal trade, but last time I bought a motorcycle, the guy took my custom built 1911 as partial trade
  8. Well, 5 years ago when I retired, I moved to E TN to get away from commie Connecticut. In a small town between Greeneville and Johnson City where most of my neighbors are cows. They recently built a handful of houses down the road, but I still shoot in my backyard.
  9. I went thru this about 2 years ago. My dentist had a sub working that week, but he got me in that first day, just to do nothing for me. Told me to take aspirin. 2 days later it was killing me, had to sleep in a chair cuz laying down made it a lot worse. Finally found an 'emergency' weekend dental clinic in Johnson City, but they dont pull teeth-lol. At least they gave me some antibiotics and pain meds. The dentist at the clinic offered to have me come in to her own private practice where she pulled the tooth and stopped the pain-lol. And she is still my dentist now. But why is it these days that a dentist will send you to a different guy to pull a tooth? Is that like Dentristry 101?
  10. Gotta say I never tried to start one, but after 27 years as a firefighter I damn well know how to put one out-lol
  11. I'm in the same boat. Actually, there are some guns I buy that I'd prefer be fired, because I'd probably never shoot them-lol. Like if I think it might be collectable in the future. A few years ago I bought a new CZ97B, and didnt shoot it right away. Now they are discontinued and scarce and I wont shoot it, figuring its worth more. Looking for a used one, but folks want more for a used one that I paid for a new one. One thing I see often in a gun ad, but dont understand, is where folks will say the gun has been carried, but never fired. God bless you to trust that gun without ever shooting it. I like to do 400-500 rounds thru the gun first, with the last 100 or so being HP and some actual carry ammo. Which is why I dont change carry guns too often-lol. Have only bought guns from TGO folks a few times, its mostly Armslist or E-Classifieds. But I gotta say, 99% of my transactions have gone smoothly and have met some great folks. And the guns are usually in the condition that they were described.
  12. I used to think that there was always something better-lol. Smaller, lighter, more rounds etc. Sig P365, SA Hellcat, Sig P938, CZ PCR , Keltec 380, etc etc etc. Now its 2 Kahrs, a PM9 and a P380 depending on what I'm wearing. They both hold 8 rounds with Mag-guts spring kits, enough for me. They are my only striker fired guns. As much as I love hammer guns and 1911's I like the DAO triggers on the Kahr.
  13. Sold, still got an EMP4 that I'll be selling
  14. Supposed to meet a guy this morning to sell my Springfield Ultra Compact 9mm 1911. Its a cool little officer size 1911 in stainless. I gotta say, I love shooting 1911's in 9mm
  15. Many of the major gun companies were started in CT, Mass, and NY and were supposed to be great places to work. As in they really took care of their workers. I like to think many of them stayed in that area because of the workers. But financially it doesnt make sense. I moved here from CT, and the taxes in those states are insane. Average houses pay $6, 7, 8k a year in property taxes plus your cars, bikes, etc etc etc. Heating and cooling your house up there cost 2-3 times what we pay here. I dont see how many of those companies CANT afford to move.
  16. Not that I'm a huge .380 fan, but there is something to be said for a .380 on your person compared to that 9 or 45 that you left home cuz its kinda big to carry
  17. Well, still driving my 2001 Silverado 1500 Tons of rust from living in CT for too long, but damn if it still doesnt run like new with 189000 miles. Recently bought a 2023 Jetta to run around in, it gets 40mpg
  18. I like my Crossbreed Mini-tuck when working outside, but I carry a Kahr PM9, a lot smaller than a 1911 Not much help I know-lol
  19. I agree with you, but in the paperwork they gave her, it says they have the right to search their cars trunk and glove compartment. Now, I wonder if they state it that way so you can keep a gun under the seat?
  20. Before moving to TN I sold my 9422XTR, and a Browning A-bolt 22, kicking myself now-lol. Although because of bad storage they were starting to pit, so in a way I got rid of them for a great price before they would need refinishing. But my custom Nordic Components 10/22 and CZ 455 Thumbhole varmint kinda make up for it.
  21. Along the same lines I guess. My wife just got hired by local walk-in clinic. Apparently they dont want you to leave a firearm in your car while on duty. Not sure why, this was her first day there. Maybe one was stolen in the past? So that means when she leaves the house for work she cant bring her gun. I see both sides. Like was stated above, the property owner should have some right as to what is on their property. But will they protect you from harm? Crazy person walks in? Me personally, I'd have something with me, even my little NAA mini revolver.

    Snow

Here in Jonesborough most of the snow is gone now. Being 45 overnight helped a lot with that. There wont be a spot of snow in another day or 2 with higher temps and rain coming. I'm glad since I am an avid mountain biker.
  23. Well this will be a moot point-lol. I have some winter hiking boots from when I lived in CT. Not only were they warm, if it was over 40 out they were too warm. But the best part was the sole. Super soft rubber to grip the ice and snow. If I was walking on asphalt they actually felt squirmy. But good luck with your new setup, sounds like it will work fine.
