  1. I understand your point. Honestly, I wish I could. My profession requires a little more attention to my surroundings. The vast majority of my "clients" have a criminal record. I make decisions daily that affects their lives greatly. These are not always "favorable" decisions. So, in an effort to relax, I try to make small changes in my behavior that allows me not to be looking over my shoulder all day, I.e using a stall in public. It may be over the top to some but to me, is an adjustment that really doesn't cost a thing.
  2. I hate the time change. My toddler didn't get the memo. She normally gets up around 6:30a. Anyone care to guess what time she came bouncing down the stairs this morning? Plus, sunrise today is 6:58a. Sunset is 5:28. I normally work a couple extra hours a day and the time change means i get to the office around sunrise and leave around sunset. For someone who works inside all day and LOVES to be outside when not at work, this sucks. I can handle the cold if i could keep the sun around a little later
  3. I was on a golf trip a short time back and got into a interesting conversation with a couple buddies who also carry. We stopped at a rest area on the side of the interstate and everyone beat feet to the bathroom. I was the only one not to elect the urinal. I had no business to tend to that required taking a seat but i was called out on why i didn't take a spot on the wall. So, the question, do you always opt for the stall? I do because I don't like to have my back to the door. I try not be in a position where i cannot watch what's going on behind me. I know bathroom doors don't offer much security but i would think i would be less likely to be targeted vs someone with their back to the wall--staring down. Thoughts? According to some of the "experts" in my group, preparedness turns in to paranoia at this point. What say you?
  4. I've got my grandfathers 550-1. Great gun. I smile and reflect every time I take it to the range.
  5. i've got the rifle case. Seems to be a great value. No complaints.
  6. Very interesting and good info. We have similar training and the "exit the building" was discouraged here. The theory is the "castle" is harder to penetrate than the public area around the building. One shooter in the building is very difficult and potentially deadly. However, the fear is that one shooter flushes the building into the exit which is also the crosshairs of a 2nd shooter outside. Because of this logic, we don't evacuate for all bomb threats. It must be deemed a credible threat--often with a visual verification. Just food for thought
  7. I'm somewhat surprised this has become a issue just a few hours down the road. Here in Kingsport, all stations appear to operating normally and no one seems to know what I'm talking about when mentioning a possible shortage. Maybe we've just got our heads in the sand. With that said, the media hasn't mentioned it so two thirds of the town did not go to the gas station at the same time.....
  8. My wife and I will be going. Camping with some friends. Looking forward to the experience as much the game.
  9. This sounds crazy but i've bought at least 6 covers this way...... Search for your model of truck for sale in your immediate area. Titan is easier because the bed size hasn't really changed in sooo many years. Try to find a individual selling a truck with a cover on it. Call and offer a couple hundred bucks. I got one for $100 but that was just luck. The cover won't "add" value to the truck. The new owner may not even want it. But the seller will normally take a couple dollars cash since he/she isn't using it anymore. I've also attempted this with dealerships but i've only had success once.
  10. I'm pretty sure the lack of effort in the part of your brother in law is more of a issue than bureaucrats at that level of government. I'd be willing to bet that a civil conversation with a local IRS agent on behalf of your mother would clear this in a short period of time. ID theft is hard to stop but pretty easy to spot once the all the cards are down. These guys know what to look for and, in my experience, work diligently to correct the problem. Do remember, it does absolutely NOTHING for the individual working for the IRS to "stick it to" your mother in law-- they aren't on commission based on how many people they starve enforcing tax law. They have no reason not to help if they have a individual who is legitimately trying to take care of debt. I'd be the first to admit there is a lot of room for improvement in government but, the "scary IRS" image was created by firms who want to "help" you settle your debt--for profit. If you step in, i bet you will see immediate results or at least clarification of the situation. Keep us posted........
  11. I would carefully verify the validity of the debt. The IRS agent can fax you a copy of his credential if you have any doubts. You can also get his/her phone number and extension. Tell them you will call them back immediately. You should hear the prompts of the IRS. If it ring directly to a individual, be very suspicious. Also--she can walk into the local IRS field office and they will verify the debt is valid. But, do take care of this. They can (and will) offset the debt out of her Social Security check. Normally, they will work with you prior to offsetting other federal benefits but it does happen,
  12. Doesn't get any better than that! You have every reason to be proud!
  13. Just a suggestion--given the political environment, i would buy a solid rifle off the rack yesterday. This could be a Ruger AR-556, M&P Sport, DPMS XYZ, etc. Given the $600 price point, i don't think you would loose any money if you shot the hell out of it and decided to sale it two years from now. Now that you've got a solid gun in the safe, start building the gun you want. The entry level gun will help show you what you like and don't like. If panic sets in, you've got a rifle in the safe. If not, build what you want and sale the other.
  14. This was a first for me. I've seen people open carry in the past and not given it much thought. It's not my thing but to each his own. Tonight, i was at a local grocery store and noticed someone carrying what appeared to be a Bond Arms pistol in the 4:00-5:00 position. Ok--no big deal. Then i noticed something around 3:00. Out of curiously, I had to do a walk by only to find the guy had TWO identical pistols on the same side. I don't guess i have a problem with it but i'm not sure what kind of "tactical" advantage this set up gave the carrier. For the 40oz weight of two 3" bonds arms derringers (assumed), he could have easily carried a G19 fully loaded and a spare mag. For an extra 5oz's he could have gone with a G19 and a Smith 642. Again, not infringing on his right to carry what he wants. I think Bond Arms makes some bad ass guns. But for open carry? If i'm going to draw extra attention to myself and potentially be a target, i'd pick something bigger than a nice derringer..........
  15. Clean carfax. Anybody give me 5k as is?
  16. do what's right--properly prepare for the trip and help the economy............   http://www.ruger.com/products/superRedhawkAlaskan/models.html
  17. keep us posted on the outcome. My daily driver is a 1994 ck1500.....
  18. I've got a buddy that is in town before his next deployment. He mentioned he wanted to get his HCP while here and asked where he could get in a class on short notice. I let him know that i thought he would be exempt from the class due to military training. I also told him there is some sort of discounted rate but i couldn't remember the exact amount.   He went to the DMV on WEDNESDAY, March 30th. They took a look at his credentials and certification letter from his commanding officer and then charged him $60 for processing. They did not really tell him when to expect the permit or if the certification letter would exempt him from the class.   In the mail TODAY--APRIL 4th-- he received his HCP. 4 BUSINESS DAYS!! Seems like it takes longer than 4 days to get a letter to Knoxville from NE TN.   Anyway, hats off to the state. I'm impressed. :hat:
  19.     Well, not exactly. TN HCP is not valid for federal ID because apparently you can submit your picture to the state (somehow) rather than having it captured at the DMV. Now, some federal agencies may or may not be aware of this because it was a fairly new policy change. On the books, it shouldn't work for TSA but it doesn't surprise me that it does on occasion.........
  20. The characters change but the story remains the same;   Primary is DAO carried IWB in the same position......   Secondary (if applicable) is in the pocket or on the ankle.
  21. I have a safe to "slow down" the bad guys. I have a couple of these around the house to stop my toddler. You'd have to be damn near crazy to think a $100 box is going to stop someone who knows what they are doing. Don't put heirloom guns in a gun vault safe. Perfect for fast access to glocks and the like.
  22. .40 cal isn't even dangerous right? Barley enough power to clear the barrel of most handguns.......
  23. Well what was it?!?!? Does it hold more than five rounds? Fun switch? Maybe harder to hear than the average rifle? not that it's any of my business.........
  24. If i found it, i wouldn't  give a damn about the reward. What's in the box!?!?!
