  1. I put up $25. Everyone, please consider getting in on this. As ttocswob said, you are NOT charged unless and until the goal is hit!
  2. Here's a piece posted by gun blogger David Codrea on Operation #EFAD. You might have heard of Matt Bracken, an ex-Navy Seal who wrote the Enemies Foreign and Domestic trilogy. Starting yesterday, he is giving away for free the first ebook in the series. They're trying to get it to #1 on the Amazon Kindle downloads to send a message, spread it through social media, and hopefully get some traction. Here is Matt Bracken's web page on what he's trying to do through this. Here is the free download of the book from Amazon. Even if you don't plan on reading it, please download it to help get it to
  3. Grenade stuff from Vanderboegh, Codrea, and Business Insider: Phoenix Fast and Furious Improvised Mexican Grenade Case Blows Up in DOJ's Face. Trying to deflect blame, DOJ blames agents. Federal LEO advocacy group charges retaliation for Gunwalker testimony Botched U.S. Gun Smuggling Operation Let Grenades, IEDs 'Walk' Into Mexico As Codrea has written here, Fast and Furious was NOT a botched operation. It was not a bungled sting. It was designed to do one thing (increase violence in Mexico), and in this it succeeded.
  4. Thanks for reminding me; I forgot. I'll add that to the Gunwalker thread.
  5. The Project Gunwalker thread is at 187 posts. In case you missed it, the ATF deliberately let guns walk to violent Mexican drug cartels. Mexican civilians and American LEOs are dead. Now we find out that the ATF is deliberately letting straw purchasers and felons in Indiana buy guns. These guns are turning up at crime scenes. As Codrea and Vanderboegh note, it is likely that these firearms are going to gangs. Codrea's piece is here. Vanderboegh's analysis is here.
  6. I understand. I assume you would have had the same indifference to the use of gunwalking as a tactic back when you were a cop. And that disturbs me, because gunwalking is extremely likely to get civilians killed. I don't believe anyone ever thought Operation Fast and Furious was a good idea as a law enforcement operation. The ostensible reason for letting the guns walk was to track them in order to find the drug cartel kingpins. The problem with that, aside from all the innocent civilians dying, was that the guns in this case were not tracked. The US government can't track guns in Mexico, a

  8. I'll second 1gewehr's recommendation of the Marlin 39A. A lot of fun to shoot. It's my only lever gun. Mine is a late model, but you might scan GunBroker for a nice older used one.

  10. Amid Fast and Furious probe, Democrats push new gun control bill Justice Department trying to shield officials in guns scandal, ATF chief says Issa, Grassley Press for Answers from FBI, DEA in Fast and Furious Investigation So, relatively recent stuff: The ATF walked guns to Honduras as well. Melson has talked and has alleged a DOJ cover-up. The FBI and DEA had confidential informants involved. And the Democrats are trying to push a gun control bill. Sorry, fellas. Too late now. Your scheme to blame gun shops and pass gun control might have worked if the cartels hadn't killed Brian Te
  11. Andrew Traver was nominated by Obama for ATF Director in November 2010. In December 2010, Brian Terry was killed with a rifle that the ATF had deliberately let walk. As Vanderboegh has written, the probability that Traver was in on the Gunwalker scandal and attempted coverup is considerable. Why would those kind of things be kept from someone who was expected to be the next director? Traver is going to Washington tomorrow to meet Obama and Holder. Obama will pick another Acting Director (who won't undergo confirmation hearings). If Traver goes to a confirmation hearing in order to become D
  12. Wow. Issa really ripped Weich up verbally. Thanks for the link. I'm looking forward to seeing the prosecutions. I hope the family of the Marine killed near Rio Rico gets justice. The family of the Marine killed in Tucson was denied justice. If no one from DOJ or ATF goes to jail as a result of Operation Gunwalker, it will be yet another signal that the rule of law is dead in this country.
  13. Update via Sipsey Street: The Department of Justice has essentially been stonewalling Issa and Grassley, refusing to give them the time of day. Issa is on the House OGR (Oversight and Government Reform) Committee. On June 13, that committee had a hearing entitled "Obstruction of Justice: Does the Justice Department Have to Respond to a Lawfully Issued and Valid Congressional Subpoena?" On June 15, they held another hearing: "Operation Fast and Furious: Reckless Decisions, Tragic Outcomes". Documents and videos are at the links. The actual report put out by the committee is here (scroll

  15. Be careful, gents. Here and here are columns by Herman Cain from 2008 explaining why he supported TARP I. He was Deputy Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City from 1992 to 1994. He was Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City from 1995 to 1996. , , and are videos of him explaining his views on the Fed.I believe that we must end the Fed if we are going to restore sound money to America. The Fed does not fight inflation. It creates it!! On the front page of the website of the Minneapolis Branch of the Federal Reserve, there is a calculator that lets you find i
  16. Right. Just to clarify, I didn't mean we should despair or give up trying to salvage the ship. I, for one, am not planning on giving up. And I'm not considering leaving anytime soon. Having said that, if anyone wants to lower a lifeboat and start rowing for another land, I ain't gonna blame 'em. The Pilgrims did the same thing about 400 years ago. Our predicament kinda reminds me of the Stockdale Paradox: “You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end – which you can never afford to lose – with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality,
  17. The "American Way" is not the problem. The problem is that the "American Way" is not practiced in America anymore by a majority of the population. Government largess is cancer on a society, period. The dole killed ancient Rome and it will, if left unchecked, kill America. Like Ben Frankin said, "Where freedom is, there is my country." I used to think that expatriates were unpatriotic. Staying here and fighting for freedom is still an honorable thing, but I don't blame anyone who leaves and seeks economic opportunity in the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China) or anywhere else. Thes
  18. I voted for Huckabee in the 2008 primaries. I wish I'd voted for Dr. Paul. I think Huckabee means well. But he is a politician. We need a statesman in office. Someone who is not afraid to do what needs to be done. Someone who will cut the deficit to zero. Let the moochers and the federal employees scream. I can hear James P. Bureaucrat yelling now. "America needs me! If I'm laid off or my pension gets cut, the earth will spin off its axis. A giant asteroid will cause a tsunami. An alien invasion. A plague of locusts!!" If we cut their pay by half, they will still make more on average than
  19. I don't think anyone motivated by a government check is going to change their vote because of the Gunwalker scandal. But I also don't agree that Obama's pals are untouchable. Hopefully, Melson and Traver are going to face serious scrutiny. Holder may be able to escape by throwing an underling under the bus.... we'll see. A subpoena has been issued, which means Issa is not playing around. Hmm.... what do you mean by that?
  20. Issa has subpoenaed the ATF for certain documents related to the scandal. The Department of Justice was "surprised and disappointed" at this action. Two Issa videos (the second one is from the third link ttocswob posted): <embed src="http://cnettv.cnet.com/av/video/cbsnews/atlantis2/cbsnews_player_embed.swf" scale="noscale" salign="lt" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" background="#333333" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" flashvars="si=254&uvpc=http://cnettv.cnet.com/av/video/cbsnews/atlantis2/uvp_cbsnews.xml&contentType=videoId&contentValue=50102651&cc
  21. And let me plead with all of you again, please (!) call Senator Corker (202-224-3344) and Senator Alexander (202-224-4944) and demand OPEN CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATIVE HEARINGS into the Brian Terry ATF whistleblower case (aka the ATF Gunwalker case). Americans who value liberty stand to gain from this significantly, but only if there are open hearings. Those responsible will lie, lie, and lie some more unless they are under oath. How will we benefit from hearings? 1. Justice for former Marine Brian Terry's family. It is a moral imperative. We need to prosecute the guys who provided the guns
  22. Big news via Sipsey Street: CBS: Darren Gil says that ATF Acting Director Melson, Dept. of Justice Knew About Operation Gunwalker Videos (watch both): <embed src="http://cnettv.cnet.com/av/video/cbsnews/atlantis2/cbsnews_player_embed.swf" scale="noscale" salign="lt" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" background="#333333" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" flashvars="si=254&uvpc=http://cnettv.cnet.com/av/video/cbsnews/atlantis2/uvp_cbsnews.xml&contentType=videoId&contentValue=50102313&ccEnabled=false&hdEnabled=false&fsEnabled=true&shareEnabled=
  23. If Ron runs, I'll support him. If Rand runs, I'll support him. I'm not a big fan of Allen West or Michele Bachmann anymore, although I used to be. Why? Because they voted to extend the Patriot Act provisions.
