Agree. Didn't figure you would do that to an AR. I have no problem at all in running corrosive ammo in my AKs since they were designed for it. It just seems natural to pour water down the barrel and gas tube of a Kalashnikov to start the cleaning. Yet..., I watch some folks with these 5.45 uppers on their AR run the corrosive spam can stuff and I just shutter to think what they are doing to their gas tubes. Later,

Leroy, I have known some who put a small spot weld on the underside rear of the trigger. In affect that will stage the trigger a little and shorten the pull.

Thanks! What has gotten me to thinking about going with the .38-40 conversion instead of the .45 Colt is: 1. Ballistically, it is similar to the .40 S&W, sharing the same bullet diameter, bullet weight and velocity. 180g - 1,160ft/s - 538 ft.lbf. 2. All the conversion needs is a counterbore of the cylinder & barrel. 3. Its a Cool Old West round with the Winchester name. 4. You can even buy it in a Black Powder load, which would make things very interesting in an IDPA revolver-only match. 5. I don't have anything in .38-40, but already have a couple handguns in .45 Colt. Therefore logic requires that I have something in .38-40. 6. Several gunsmiths do the .38-40 conversion, quicker turn around. 7. AND - - - I'm getting tried of waiting on Hamilton Bowen now that he is famous. Yup, at .11 a round you can't beat it. I had 4 of the spam cans delivered last week from AIM to feed my AK-74s.

As my follow-up..., Found a good, solid post-war S&W Heavy Duty as part of my "retirement package." I'm standing in line with tons of others waiting for Bowen to call me to send it in for the .45 Colt conversion. I added the Elk Bone grips and did an action job. Later I sent the trigger and hammer off to have them re-case harden. Its such a sweet shooter that I'm beginning to think about a .38-40 conversion instead.

I really get pissed off when I see one of the drivers with military sponsorship (Army, NG, USAF) just standing there. They'll take the taxpayer money (and that is where the money comes from) - - - but won't honor the service who's name is all over their suit and car. Getting back on topic. I like the hand salute by military & vets. I do wonder if one should remove their headgear (indoors) or salute with heargear (outdoors) as per your service's regs.

So I see this nice hunting rifle with an 1903 action at the Murfreesboro Gun Show. Typical 60s /70s conversion, but a good one. This was done by a gunsmith who knew what he was doing. Good looking wood and still with a deep and shinny blue job on the reciever and hunting weight barrel. I go to check the SN and what do I find. The offset Remington name along with the offset SN. Yup - - - A real deal 1903A4 Sniper. Well..., at least it started off that way. For a second or two I wondered how much to convert it back..., but I realized it would never be the same. So I put it down and backed away.

Talked to Todd and Westwindmike at the CIS booth. Mike hadn't seen me since I retired and let my "hair" grow out. Agree with davidz71, Todd is way "Over-Chicked" and I mean that as a complement to both of them. JMHO, but there still seems to be a big lag between what private sellers are asking for their firearms and what I think guns are really selling for now. Perhaps people are trying to recover some of what they spent last year during the panic. However, I did score a nice Russian AK red bakelite pistol grip and a ANIB Colt shinny carbine handguard. I'll telling ya this Retro stuff is a Disease!

I knew both of these Army Aviators, but especially CW2 Grinder and members of her family. I was happy to signed off on Billie Jean's flight school packet as the Master Aviator recommendation. Later it was my honor to approve her Federal Recognition to CW2. She was a kind and sweet young lady. I will miss both of them....., and yet we Cavalrymen know that someday we will meet again at Fiddler's Green and there, together, we will fill our canteens.
