  1. Title pretty much says it all. I have a gray Winchester safe from TSC that has a corner on the bottom that needs to be re-painted. Color and texture matching is not high on the priority list. My main concern is what type of paint would yall use? I'm guessing oil-based? Seems like latex paint would just peel right off after drying.

  2. Up for sale is my Excalibur Micro Suppressor I bought brand new in 2019. I dont know an exact shot count, but it is under 75. This crossbow was kind of an impulse buy for me. I bought it, played with it for a few months, and haven’t touched it since. It has only ever been on two hunts. It could stand a new string (~$30-40 last time I looked). This is a complete ready-to-hunt package: sighted in and ready to go. Included with the sale is the Excalibur soft case, the crossbow, a total of 9 bolts (all Excalibur Quills), field points, cocking device, and broadheads. I still have all original paperwork as well. This is a premium crossbow with the added benefit of the simple recurve design. It is very accurate. It shoots hard, fast, and quiet.

Sorry in advance for the crappy pictures. A crossbow is an awkward thing to try to get good pictures of. The price is $750 for the package. Must meet me in the Chattanooga Hamilton/Marion county area. I will throw in a crossbow target with the sale. Again, this is a complete, ready to hunt/shoot package.

  3. Well the title says it all, I have majorly outgrown my safe and it's time to upgrade. I currently have the 24 or 26 gun (can't remember exact) Winchester safe from TSC. I'm looking at upgrading to a 50+ gun safe. I am the type of person that worries and big purchases like this always give me anxiety. So help me out, if you all were in my shoes, and had up to 2k to spend what would you get? I wish I had the extra 1k or so to get a nice liberty fatboy jr or something of the like, but it just isn't in the cards: 2k is my max.

  4. It was a special Christmas for my son this year. He is 5 and "Santa" brought him his first real gun. Of course it had to be a KSA Crickett: black synthetic stock with stainless barrel. His eyes and face when he saw it were priceless on Christmas morning, so Santa did good! Here is a quick shot of us shooting it for the first time the other day. We went through a couple hundred rounds and had a blast. Hope all you folks had a great holiday season!

Are you looking for like, an LPVO 1-6, 1-8, 1-10 or something like a 3-15 mag range?

This rifle will be used to hunt with, so something in the 3-10, or 4-12 range would be ideal. Thanks.

There are span calculators available on-line. Here's one:  https://www.awc.org/codes-standards/calculators-software/reversecalc

An 11.5' span is relatively short, but it depends on the size of the joists and the loaded (dead) weight of the safes. A 2x12 will support more dead weight than a 2x8.  If you find that you're pushing the limits of the joists under your house, you can add some 4x4 posts on concrete piers midway between the safes to effectively reduce the span.  You can also add a couple of extra joists if you think you need them.

    Thanks for the input.

    How big are the safes?

One is a 26 gun Winchester (the one TSC sells) and the other is an older 30-32 gun Remington safe that is a lil more heavy than the Winchester

  7. Good point on which way the joists run. Id have to re-check, but I was under there a couple years ago and if my memory serves me right the floor joists run perpendicular to the exterior wall, not parallel.

I am working with a crawl space, so ultimately yeah I could get under there to do some bracing if need be. FWIW the house was built in 06.

  8. Ok, since my brain makes me overthink things way too much, Im here for some reassurance. Would you all feel comfortable with this setup (see crudely drawn picture below lol). Two gun safes (both approximately 30 gun size) in one room in opposite corners along an exterior wall of about 11.5 ft in length, with NO floor reinforcements? Im hoping that since they would be along an exterior wall that the floor joists sitting on the block foundation of my house will be sufficient enough to hold the weight of both safes with no sagging or ill effect on the long term. Thoughts?

  9. I am by no means a stranger to building my own rifles. Ive got two SBR’s I built from the ground up, and two standard AR platform rifles as well. That being said I have never built an AR 10 and was actually completely unaware about the potential for tolerance differences, part compatibility, etc. So thanks for bringing that up Garufa! I learnt somethin today!

Something to consider is whether or not you will want to use the gun suppressed.   I knew I wanted the option of running the gun with or without the silencer.  If you're not going to shoot at all with a silencer, don't waste your time reading the rest of my post.

I started by trying out a friend's DPMS Super SASS.  It was a no go for running suppressed reliably.  DPMS rep mentioned that I could change out the gas block, but I wasn't finding any options in that regard that appealed to me.

I moved on and purchased a Rock River.  No success with that platform either.  I did change out the gas block on that gun.  The replacement gas block used a set screw to adjust the amount of gas.  It was a poor system requiring an allen wrench for switching between suppressed and not suppressed.  As the thread coating that was to be applied to the set screw began to wear off due to going from the suppressed setting and back to the non-suppressed number of turns, consistency of the setting went out the window.  That had me move on to an Adams Arms piston driven AR-10.

The Adams Arms gun was just an all around disaster.  I sent it in for warranty repair.  It came back, eventually, no better than when it had went in.  I was fortunate that when the dealer who recommended and sold me the gun saw the issues even after having the gun sent in and he personally following up with Adam Arms to find out what the hold up was in getting the gun fixed and returned, he gave me a full refund for that turd.

On the advice of another friend who will only buy firearms used by major police forces or military, I purchased a Sig 716 DMR.  It was more money than I wanted to spend but I guess it is another testimony to getting what you pay for.  The gas block adjusts just as it does on my 516.  It has 4 settings.  Push in a small detent and twist the knob to the proper setting.  Very simple and precise to go from non-suppressed to suppressed.  I do know of one for sale in Florida listed on the Florida Shooters Network.  He is asking $2k for everything it came with as new.  He has a nice optic he is selling separately.  It has been listed for months.  Maybe he's ready to reduce the price even further.

Thanks for your input! Id love to have a Sig 716, but as you suggested it is just more than I can swing right now.

I have a Savage msr 10. I got it thinking it was so cheap and light that I could afford to mod it out if needed. So here it goes.

Trigger is heavy. Got a new one.

But stock sucks. Got a new one.

Replace the grip with a modified standard one.

The barrel had chatter. Fire lapped it.

Flash hider was near impossible to get off.

It is now a bad ass working rifle. I've killed hogs at night in Texas and South Carolina. I run it on nuisance permits in Tennessee. It runs like a top. The fire lapping was a must everything else was for comfort. I'm behind the rifle 2 to 3 times a week for 2.5-3 hours at a time. If you get one I would put about $300 into it.

    Thanks for your input!

No need or immediate want in my life.

Other than a desire for a big bore AR platform, my only advice based on "hunting and occasional range" is a good optic budget, not a good budget optic.

From the recent AR thread, with patience for flash sales, you could build one.

$1000 all at once vs. a hundred here and there over time.

Building is definitely an option as well, just havent looked in a lot of places besides PSA yet.
