1. Speaking for no one but myself, I agree with much of what you said. Sad? Nope, angry and frustrated probably describes it better. In my lifetime we have seen what I view as the demise of one of the greatest countries of all human history. And as was predicted years ago, not a shot was fired. We were destroyed from within. For what it's worth, I voted every chance I had against every one of the elected officials currently in office with the exception of Corker, and his turn is coming when his re-election comes around. I am frustrated by Obama and his lackey Holder for purposely tearing down our country in an effort to make us look more like Eastern Europe. The Constitution is a meaningless document to them. Obama and Holder are to blame, as I see it, for the lions share of the current border crisis due to his choosing not to enforce certain laws which might not stop, but would at least have slowed down some of the traffic. His declaration that they were never going to turn away a child who comes here didn't exactly help matters. He and Holder are responsible for Fast and Furious, sending guns to the cartels. Sure, Bush never did much either but I see it at least Bush tried to serve as the President and made hard choices. History will judge whether some of those choices were right or wrong. Obama just likes the idea of being the cool guy who is the President with all the perks, playing golf every day and hanging out with big name entertainers and showing up on talk shows. Congress is a joke. They lack the integrity and the fortitude to stand up to this tin horn dictator who has a pen and a phone. As a result, they have now given up their power as an independent branch of government. Like I said, I concur with much of what you said, but I still say that I hold Obama, and his cronies and all those who voted for him either once or twice fully responsible.
2. Had not heard of the incident you mention. Understandable that LEA would have no choice but take that position, but it appears to everyone but Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder that what they are doing now ain't working. Trust me, I don't fault anyone but the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania for what is taking place down there now.
3. Perhaps some of those militias who showed up out west a few months ago need to head down to the border. If enough of them showed up with long guns perhaps they might run some of these bastards back across the border. We know Uncle Sam ain't gonna send troops but if a militia of private citizens, or folks calling themselves the Tea Party went down Holder and Obama would piss themselves and move heaven and earth to get armed troops down there, if only to harass and arrest some US Citizens. While we are at it, why not bus all those agitators they arrested in Ferguson down there to stir up, loot, and burn Jaurez? Remember the Alamo!
4. Me, too. End of the world as we know it and she and I are hanging out fighting zombies? Yep. I'd hit it...
5. I may be the exception to the rule, but I picked up a used Taurus PT1911 a few months ago at a local pawn shop. Cleaned and lubed it good and it has run flawlessly with my 200 gr LSWCs reloads. This is my second Taurus PT1911 and I have had nothing but good experiences with them both. Congrats to the OP on the new gun.
6. Sorry to hear about you friend. I lost my first wife to skin cancer (melanoma) when she was just 38 years old. She was first diagnosed at 29 when my daughter was born. The above poster makes some valid points. But even without insurance, there are treatment options. If he is sick, he can go into a hospital emergency room and ask to be seen. By law, even without insurance they can't deny him treatment.  I can't tell from his blog where or when or who made the initial diagnosis, but getting a treatment plan and some help, as well as meds for his bi-polar illness will make him able to put things into perspective. He sounds like a very lonely soul, but perhaps not by choice. Good luck to him in his journey.
7. Burglars attempted to hit Guns and Ammo recently as well. That group was using sledge hammers to try to chisel in through the brick wall. My understanding is they set off an alarm and the never got completely through the wall.
8. Sorry to see them go. The neighborhood has been on a steady decline for years, just as Tom notes in his message posted above. Best wishes to Tom and Lynn in their future business ventures.
9. Warner is out on his own now. His shop is over in the Strip mall on the corner of Poplar and Kirby. He is pretty highly regarded around town.
10. I enjoy surfing Armslist. Even when I might not in the market, eventually I see good deals, normally not in my area, but there are some bargains out there. I have noticed an increase in dealer ads and "white noise". I have also had good luck buying and selling on there. I like doing business with TGO family when possible, but Armslist does get the ad out to folks who may not be members here. I do chuckle at the rants from time to time from folks complaining about fuzzy photos, people wanting to trade a goat for your new AR and boot from you, ridiculous prices on used guns, and whether or not a never been shot gun is still new, etc. One guy actually had a three part series of rant ads over a few days that was actually pretty entertaining...
11. I have been searching the YouTube channel. I want to watch that video that caused the protest on 09/11/12 over at our embassy in Benghazi. Want to watch it whilst cleaning my guns and eating a pound or two of crisp, tasty bacon.
12. Nice gun. Great price. Congrats!
13. I like the quote from Clint Smith. "If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. That's ridiculous. If I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid for."
14. Sonny, congrats on the new gun. Enjoyed the review. I'm curious whether you have tried to shoot any lead semi wad cutters out of it. Also, what holster are you using to carry it? I have been recently bitten by the .45 ACP bug again but had not considered the Kahr till I read your thread. By the way, did you pick that up locally? Thanks,
15. I saw one up close two weeks ago here in Memphis. I had gone out to Shelby Farms to get in a run at lunch. Parked at the Visitors Center and started walking north towards the children's playground area when I noticed him walking west towards one of the small lakes next to the Chickasaw trail. At first I thought it was a small doe with big ears, but as he got closer I realized it weren't no deer. We got about 50 yards from each other and he started checking to see where I was going. If I walked, he walked. If I stopped, he stopped. He was one ugly, mangy looking critter. He eventually ran behind me to the woods, but it was a little unusual to see one in the middle of the day with lots of people around. I have seen a lot of wild life out there, including a bobcat last fall. That one was less than ten feet from me when he scrambled out of a ditch and across the walking path into some nearby woods. Startled me, to say the least!
16. Got to go with my first love, S&W revolvers. The first gun I ever owned was a used S&W Highway Patrol model 28 with 6" barrel. Pure pleasure to shoot. The combination of wood and blued metal just looked sexy, and felt right in my hands. Not to mention the weight of the gun made even hot .357 magnum reloads easy to shoot. I loved the sound of the gun and the flash of the ball of fire every time I pulled the trigger. I kept it for many years, even using it as my carry gun when I worked for the Sheriff's department. I sold the Smith in order to buy my first Glock 17. Half the weight, and just as many rounds in one magazine and in the tube as I could carry in my Smith plus two speed loaders. Now as I get older, and hopefully a little wiser, I still appreciate the utility of the Glock, but I would love to find another old model 28. Would make a great range gun/ BBQ gun/night stand companion. I would not hesitate to use it for a CCW given the right holster. :)
17.
Blues City Cafe was really good, watch out for the gunbuster on the door though.
Yeah, just in case you didn't know, Beale Street is a big tourist area, and considered part of the "entertainment district" and no guns are allowed on Beale. (At least not the places you want to go, the other part of Beale should have a sign saying you are not allowed without one.) they take this pretty seriously and often use metal detectors at different entrances to the area during high traffic events. The MPD does have a very visual presence and they do a good job. Just don't tarry on the way back to your car or hotel... Sorry to hijack the thread.
18. Just some suggestions, some already mentioned: Cozy Corner BBQ ( BBQ bologna sandwich) The Arcade ( sweet potato pancakes) Gus's world famous chicken Dyers Hamburgers (milk shake and a burger) Pearls Oyster Bar Itta Bena (above BB Kings on Beale reservations required) Texas de Brazil Bogies Delicatessen Flying Fish Bardog Tavern
19. I previously had a Smith and Wesson model 642 that I really liked, but sold it about 9 months ago to help my wife buy something she wanted. Really enjoyed shooting the J frame with my bunny fart reloads. Luckily for me, I found a replacement earlier this morning. This one is an older model 36. The blueing is a little dinged up, but the cylinder locks up tight and the trigger is smooth. Called S&W customer service, and they said it was made in1975, but they also said not to use +P ammo in this gun. The wood stocks appear to be original and in overall pretty good condition. The only .38 self defense ammo I currently have is some +P 125 grain Speer Gold Dot Hollow Points. Any of you revolver guys have any suggestions for carry ammo?
20.
I know there isn't much love for Rendezvous from Memphis locals but Ive been there twice and I really enjoyed both visits. I only ate ribs though.
Yep. You nailed it. Many of us remember when the Rendezvous still used real plates and stainless steel knives and forks, and the atmosphere was a little more laid back, back before it became more of a tourist stop. Now everything comes out on paper plates with plastic forks. (Of course I'm showing my age cause Elvis still lived at Graceland back then, too... :) For the record, I still like the food. I recently stopped by one Monday when they were technically "closed". A couple of us wandered in for lunch. the waiter said we could have anything we wanted to eat, as long as we wanted ribs. What are the chances, he read my mind? It was delicious..
21. I use a Edwin Jagger double edge razor with Feather blades. The Derby blades that came with the razor worked well, but I got a deal on a package of 50 Feather blades on Amazon and I love them. Also recently got some Proraso Sandalwood shave cream, and I like the fresh, clean smell. I got started on the double edge shave little over a year ago, after getting tired of paying more for 4 razor blade refills than for a brick of .22 LR.
22. You might start with 1.15 and see how that works. I wouldn't go any shorter than 1.12 with the plated unless they were hollow based.
