  1. I voted "Not always but frequently" not because I'm concerned about break ins and such, but because of the @#$%%^$ snakes and coyotes. Anytime I'm outside the house (and that's a lot) I'm carrying. I bought my first handgun due to some very aggressive coyotes a few years back. Can't kill snakes in TN, but me and a rather large rattler met outside my garage door a few weeks ago. Big sticks are always in reach too. My LCP is too easy not to have on me, no more trouble to carry than a phone. When I am out and about the farm I usually have something larger. My preference most days is my Glock 30SF. Most accurate gun I own.
  2. One I've followed my entire life. Could be firearm related I guess. FOWFUAFI
  3. Never found any dead drunks (thankfully) but the occasional pot patch is pretty common. Found an old still when I was a young fellow with my dad, must have been 30 years ago. On my place now, the owner from long ago was known to make a bottle or two hundred. After touring the Jack Daniels Distillery and being told the residue given off by the stills would turn the nearby trees and such black over time, I figured out the old man was a volume distiller. We have one hollow that all the trees and rocks are black, just like at JD's. My dad had a Rolex he bought while in Korea during the war, he lost it rabbit hunting years ago, sure wish I could have found that.
  4. Like everyone else has said, a holster is cheap insurance. There's not much reason for a trigger to be exposed unless you're intent is to pull the trigger. And I sure don't want to pull the trigger while the gun is in my pocket.
  5. I don't own any guns! I just visit these forums for the discussion... wait, isn't this the Brady Campaign forum?
  6. For someone who is considering when and where to take the HCP class, what is a typical safety class like? I've been around guns and such my entire life (pushing 40 now) and would like to spend my money to get the best "handgun education" I can, considering the fact that I need the basic course first in order to apply for my HCP. I don't mind what it costs, as long as I leave feeling like it was money well spent. Clearly the OP did not have this experience. I would consider any course/ class in the state. What is the "high water mark" as far as what to expect from this class, and who/ where is the best place to take it? Thanks, John
  7. I don't even own a deer rifle. I've always bowhunted the entire season. Of course, I'm not hunting to feed my family either. I'm doing it entirely for fun. I went traditional only about 10 years ago, first with a recurve and now I've been longbow only for about 7 years. It's just too much fun. The most fun is when the tree rats are feeding on the ground heavy. Sometimes I've emptied a full quiver on the rascals from one stand. Anywho, like others have said, if the area you hunt is not heavily hunted, bow hunting during gun season can be productive. A good plan is to find an area that is a safe zone for deer, and when the surrounding areas are pressured by gun hunters, deer will come to these safe areas to bed and hang out until dark. I've had good success with dense cover areas inside wooded places, like a place that was clear cut inside a larger, wooded area. If its been allowed to hair over and grow up a bit, deer will use it for cover during the day. Find the travel routes on the edges of these places and set up for close, covered shots. Good luck, John
  8. Sayers, Wear that Supertuck around the house as much as possible to break it in. It takes a while but once you get it worked in it will be very comfortable. Also, it will probably "squeak" or "creak" a bit until it gets broke in. That''s normal too. John
  9. Hey guys, I'm new to the site so I don't have any street cred yet, but I've got 350 very secluded acres and have been considering a range for some time now. PM me with some more information, maybe I can help. John
  10. Hello all, Been lurking for a week or two and decided to shout out to everyone. Bought my first handgun this week, a Glock 30SF. Only put enough rounds through it to get a feel for recoil and report, but I like it so far. Any other Vol fans here? John
