  1. Thanks for the info guys. I might save up and just buy the Arsenal already converted because, being in college, I don't have much access to tools or a shop, even for a pretty simple project. Plus I've heard nothing but good things about the Arsenal guns.
  2. Cool thanks for the great info bkelm, I knew that was way too easy to save $200 bucks. That's why I was considering the original saiga for $379
  3. So, I saw on Arsenal's website today that for the time being they are selling unconverted factory fresh "sporter" saigas. Being somewhat of an AK newb by question is this: If I buy this: Rifles & Shotguns from... and this K-Var Corp. â„¢ will it come out the same as this: K-Var Corp. â„¢ By my math that's 379 + 154 = $533 for the sport and conversion versus $765 for the already-converted. What am I missing? (besides muzzle brake) I tried to call K-var this afternoon but no one answered. Thanks
  4. Just as update for anyone who is interested. Because I was in school, my credit card address is still my parents address. However, on my order I clearly indicated the shipping address was here in Chattanooga. (not a special note either they have a place for "Shipping Address" but I guess they don't look at it.). They have now shipped my order to the wrong place. Thoroughly unimpressed by this company all around and will definitely not be ordering from them again. I'll quit b****ing now.
  5. Garufa, Thanks for clearing that up. That's why I am not buying the whole "he runs it out of his/was busy" reason. From everything I can tell TGI is a fairly large seller (just look at the page of their distributors. Definitely not somebody's garage operation. Glad I could help by asking. I won't be doing any business with them in the future. Unfortunately they are the only place online that sells that barrel so I won't cancel that order.
  6. I suppose that is a possibility. I just don't see how he/they are willing to take the trouble to post something on gunbroker, pay those fees, and box and ship the thing to an FFL, but wouldn't be happy to just let me walk in and hand them money for it.
  7. *I didn't really know what thread to put this is so I brought it here - mods please move if need be. So I am doing a Mosin Nagant sporterized build and I found out that TGI carries a cool heavy barrel for the Mosin so I thought I would order one. After doing a bunch of reading on how incredibly difficult it is to get the regular mosin barrel's off the action I saw that they also had a stripped Mosin receiver on GunBroker for $39. I figured it's worth my time effort, and ensuring I don't screw up the action, to just buy that one. So I sent TGI this email: Hello, > > You have a Mosin Nagant 91/30 hex receiver and heavy barrel on GunBroker > for > $99 that I would like to buy. > > I am writing because I live in Chattanooga and I will be happy to come > pick these up from your store if that is possible to save us both shipping and > FFL. > > You can call me at ***-***-**** > > Thank you, > This is what I got back: We don't have a storefront TGI Now I'm not looking for the royal treatment, but that's not exactly what I call customer service. Am I doing something wrong here or are they just really lazy/rude?
  8. If you are wanting a Bull Barrel it seems to me you could kill several birds with one stone here buy an aftermarket bull barrel that is already threaded. Save money on smithing and get a more accurate target barrel. Tactical Solutions makes some very nice threaded 10/22 barrels, or if you want to go a little cheaper Green Mountain makes extremely good ones as well, for around $100. I'm not sure if they offer a threaded version though.
  9. Ah ok, yea that makes sense. Assuming it is a clean job on all, does one type of cut or angle offer big differences in accuracy compared to the others? 11 or 45 or the stepped cut?
  10. Hey pie thanks a lot I may take you up on that offer. I never considered doing the 45-90 just because it involved even more tools that I don't have. Part of this if I want to learn how to do some of this stuff. This is my first real gunsmithing project, I've always just bought off the shelf. I'm guessing it would come out something like this: (top picture) 11 Degree Target Crown Thanks again
  11. Yea I would like to. I'm trying to build a somewhat budget sniper. mostly for the fun of building it and seeing how accurate I can make the thing.
  12. Hey everyone, So I am starting a mosin nagant sporterized build as my first project for 2011. (sorry purists - you won't enjoy this) I am looking for someone in or around Chattanooga who has an 11 degree recrowning tool and guide for the 7.62x54r bore (I believe a .308 guide will work) I want to shorten the barrel and install the Rock Solid Scope mount Mosin Nagant I am willing to pay anyone who can help me with this (gunsmith or otherwise) it just seems silly to pay 65 bucks for a recrowning tool I am going to use once on a $79 rifle. Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks, Lucas
  13. Thanks for the info Greg. You are right, this is a family treasure, I have absolutely no plans of selling it. I was just trying to find out about this very cool family heirloom. I was hoping to figure out what year it was made it, but from what I'm figuring out the closest I can get is the decade (1931-1940). It's in good (not great) condition, just needs a good cleaning. I'm trying to decide if I should shoot it or not. Any thoughts?
  14. Awfully quiet....Anybody know anything about this gun? I'm just looking for any good information, just for curiosity
  15. So I was at my parents house for the holiday weekend and was happy to find a long forgotten .410 SxS in the closet. My mom says it belonged to my grandfather, and I am trying to figure out what year it was made, and just other interesting info about this very cool old gun. I have read that the Springfield 5100 was a precursor to the Stevens 311 and was produced between 1931-1940. Shotgunworld.com • View topic - Age/Value of Stevens 311A SxS 410 Shotgun You can just barely make out the 5100. I have no idea what the other markings mean
