  1. http://www.wbir.com/mb/news/crime/maryville-officer-shot-suspect-in-custody/308324519 Very sad for our community. He was a good guy.
  2. I'm with Glenn. Not much love for Bullhide belts so far, but I'll buy no other. I have a Galco "gun belt" that resides in a top dresser drawer. I'm on my 2nd Bullhide belt in 5 years.....and only because I've been successful in dropping a bunch of weight since Nov. My 2nd purchase was just as they released a "gun belt" with a steel insert throughout the holster area.....typical right hand 3-5 o'clock. It is quite stiff, but I think my next will be the standard.....worked great and wasn't nearly as difficult to holster around belt loops. I really really liked my first Bullhide. 1.5", double stitched, roller buckle. One note....I like, but some may not, the non-dress belt - it is very thick! I would estimate a measurable 3/8"! I really like the thickness, but some c and j clips may be tight. I typically wear an OWB Garret Silent Thunder STX 2.0 (1911) or an IWB Galco King Tuk (XD .45) with no issues.
  3. Epic thread drift.....I knew I could count on you guys for some entertainment. ;)
  4. Bought it on my phone at lunch today.....just finished it. Very plausible. For entertainment value, One Second After was a deeper story. From a dread factor of sending your daughter to school in the morning....well, I'll be struggling to sleep tonight. Between both of these stories there's a common thread of how our friends, family, neighbors will react that frightens me as much as anything. It's great to keep large caches of weapons and ammo, but don't forget to use your heads, my friends.
  5. Welcome. I'm a native Jonesborough guy myself, but been over hear near Knoxville for about 15 years. Still get back to the tri-cities every once in a while.
  6. I think I'm still pending approval from last Fall.
  7. Well said. I think I've lurked around here for years just to find some common minded, common folk to help balance what I see on the news every night. Great site (thanks David!) and great folks!
  8. Funny stuff. The best Hitler over-dub has to be the one about Pmags. Search Hitler Pmags on YouTube for a good laugh. :)
  9. Blount Co confirmation on both cicada killers and cow killers. I've had both around the house, but no stings. The cicada killers aren't so aggressive and will actually bounce off of things. When they are around they are constantly bouncing off the back of my house. The cow killers haven't been around for a while, but I've never found a tougher bug to kill. Its almost impossible to smash them with a shoe or boot on the grass.
  10. Me likey lots. I'm starting to jones more for an AR pistol with a SIG brace, with all of these cool pics going around. Looks great!
  11. Maryville checking in. I'm an avid lurker and pick up lots of good info. I don't post a lot, but would certainly be up for a gathering.
  12. Jonesborough/Johnson City for many years. Closer to Knoxville these days. Welcome.
  13. I turn 43 in a couple of weeks.....and get the boot off of my left ankle in 1 week. Mine was nowhere near that bad. Good luck and fast recovery!
  14. Poor situational awareness? Looked like he was swatting at a fly. :)
  15. After carrying an LCP almost exclusively for a year or more, I finally decided that if I were to ever need to draw I would want more. After swapping back to a compact .45 I don't think I've carried the Ruger since. On a few occasions I've grabbed the wife's j-frame as a smaller option. 5x rounds of .38 +p sounds much better than 6x .380, but 10x rounds of .45 helps ease my mind. :)
  16. I like the Allegra products. They don't make my head as fuzzy as Claritin or some of the other popular ones.
  17. I'll 2nd Daddyo on the bullhide belt. I like everything about it except the thickness makes it almost too much for some holster clips.
  18. DaveTN offered some very good advice! I'll 2nd the socialization, especially if you are considering a typical power breed. I'm a little biased towards GSD, as you can tell from my avatar. :). The largest two issues we had with our last Shepherd (an adult rescue).... 1. We exposed her to a group of people too soon. A very loud, non-dog person approached her very quickly and threw her hand out to pet her. The dog was backed into a corner basically. She tried to shrink back. As the lady finally realized the dog was timid she turned as quick to back off and the dog responded with a nip in the posterior. Bad, bad, bad move on our part, not the dog. No harm, no foul, and we all learned a lesson. The key again is to socialize any dog that may be around strangers, and be aware that fear can motivate a non-aggressive dog to bite. 2. Be aware of the level of play drive on certain types of dogs. Our shepherd absolutely had to run, chase, wrestle....every day. ....sometimes multiple times a day. If not that natural energy can turn very negative on you! :). We lost both of our dogs in the last year. They were both 13 years old. My wife and I decided to take the summer and fall off so we could travel and camp more freely. After next week I've given the green light to start looking for a new family member. Our 5 year old is another factor. As for peace of mind.... When we brought our daughter home from the hospital I was a little nervous how the dogs would react. It was amazing how they responded and we never had an issue. Both dogs allowed our daughter to pull tails and ears and waller all over them. For months after we brought her home the dog in my avatar would curl up in front of our daughters door when she was sleeping. Until last January a night didn't pass that someone would have to pass this dog to enter our house or to get to my daughters door. Better than any alarm siren in my book. After losing our dog, it felt strange going to bed knowing that she wasn't watching over us at night. Good luck in your search!
  19. .....a very interesting topic. My first thought was the same as many, a lack of respect for fellow human beings. As far as some kid punching an elderly man (for any reason), I wonder bow much if any of this type of response is due in part to how today's kids exist in our society. In other conversations I've wondered how today's kids will function as adults as it relates to conflict resolution. How many tries did most of us get to resolve problems or negotiate conflict with our peers or others? Back in the days when we would be MIA from the time we got home from school until dinner. We had to learn how to cope with adversity, overcome arguments/fights, ....basically practice being grown up. What can we honestly expect from a generation that is very sheltered and controlled, when they finally encounter conflict? Is there a third response to threat? Fight, flight, or work it out like a rational and respectful member of the human race? If that last skill isn't available just fight or flight? How about the humility learned through loosing? In an age where kids are not allowed to lose, what is the expected response when they're grown and introduced to the real world where there are winners and losers. The kid is embarrassed by being called out by this old guy, instead of sucking it up and aknowleding that he was in the wrong and apologizing, he feels that he has to lash out and go to fists. No real statement on this topic, it just makes me wonder.?.?
  20. My carry varies from .380 pocket carry to double stack .45 based on dress, where I'm going, how deeply I need to conceal. The .45 is a Springfield XDc in a Galco King-tuk. Similar in design to the supertuck. I like it a lot based on comfort and price.
  21. Handsome Shepherd. How about a pic of Ruger? Another GSD?
  22. My GSD. She was our beloved pet, my daughter's guardian and friend. We had to put her down the week after Christmas this year. We adopted her when she was 5. That was about when this picture was taken. She was 13 and in failing health. The companionship of a good dog is quite amazing. I thought I should change my avatar after she was gone, but I think I'll keep it as a reminder. I should probably post more so I can see it. :)
