  1.   He's training for John Wick 2.
  2.   Drew his pistol, won the fight, cleared the rest of the house, and walked to the medevac.   Here's an interview with a little more info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL9vC1W8-xA
  3. They don't want money. They want this: "A crazed, homicidal killer [i.e. any gun owner] should not be able to amass a military arsenal, without showing his face or answering a single question, with the simple click of a mouse. If businesses choose to sell military-grade equipment online, they must screen purchasers to prevent arming people like James Holmes."
  4.   Elmer is credited with the revival of bourbon, more specifically, he "introduced the single barrel bourbon concept to the world with Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon." If I'm not mistaken, the Elmer T. Lee stuff is from barrels he personally selected for his brand. Beyond Blanton's, I have a difficult time finding others I like as much as the Elmer T. Lee bourbon.   Edited to add: Just found this link to an interview with Elmer, part of an oral history project. Just now listening to it, but he was a B-29 crew member in WWII, and he started out in the whiskey business as a maintenance manager at Buffalo Trace.
  5.   A small local store got four bottles in. My buddy bought one, I bought three. The clerk looked at me like I had two heads. My favorite, for sure. Rowan's Creek was something of a suitable substitute.
  6. Get over on Todd Green's forum and do a little reading on the M&P 9FS. If you're lucky, you can get one, fill it with Apex parts, get a fitted barrel, and you might end up with one that is accurate.
  7. No one that I know of. Depending on how bad you need them, you could show up at the IDPA match tomorrow at TAC2. The owner there might sell you some.
  8. The proper response would have been, "I'm sorry, sir, I didn't see you." Nothing wrong with common courtesy, even when you're in the right. Or say nothing at all. Then there's no motorized batboy to contend with.    As a rule, and especially when armed, never do anything to escalate even what appears to be a minor situation. Shelve your pride and be nice.    When do you stop being nice? When your inner Dalton tells you it's time to stop being nice.
  9. Just because we don't understand the purpose doesn't mean there isn't one. Surely Ernest Langdon, one of the commenters, would have called out this "tacti-tubby" if what he was doing had no merit. Of course, I'm sure plenty of us have one up on Dave Harrington:
  10.   Getting them to get tattoos is even better.   http://www.419eater.com/html/okorie.htm
  11.   Oh yeah, they got a bit ridiculous for a while, but then again everything did. They've been in stock at Midway for a few months now though.
  12.   Fortunately, M&P magazines have been around 30 bucks for a while now. The FDE base pads may be a different story.
  13.   I see. Good reasoning, and those two lenses would cover a lot of bases in regards to focal length.   I have a difficult time putting much value in budget zooms because of the typically slower variable apertures and the hit in image quality compared to primes. I think if you're looking to take the next step toward better IQ, primes are the way to go until you're ready to spend more money on zooms with fast constant apertures. Primes can be relatively inconvenient, but I feel the trade-off is worth it if IQ is the criteria, especially in low- and natural-light situations.
  14.   Sometimes there's no ceiling, so a diffuser is handy, and there's many other benefits to primes and fast apertures, not the least of which is better image quality.   For $110, the 50mm 1.8 is hard to ignore, especially with the image quality you can get for that price compared to any of the lower-priced zooms. The biggest drawback I've found is that the 50mm focal length on crop-sensor cameras can be a little tight indoors.    The 55-200 focal length isn't as versatile indoors, and outdoors with shorter focal lengths you can usually zoom with your feet. The 55-200 focal length would be good to have for ball games, recitals, and school plays but the aperture range is limiting in low light, especially at full zoom.    He already has an 18-55 and can expand its usefulness with an external flash. JHC77, I still think that's your best bet given your budget. Look for used or refurbished equipment, and you could probably get the 50mm 1.8 and an external flash and improve your capabilities exponentially. Beyond that, it's time to look at investing more money. Canon has some well-built primes at decent prices compared to the zooms that deliver similar image quality.
  15.   The software provided with your camera is quite useful. I haven't used Digital Photo Professional in a while, but it is quite capable for many editing tasks. Shoot RAW to have more flexibility in post.
  16. The nifty fifty is a good lens for the price. If you're going to get a prime, though, I'd get the 50mm 1.4. It's just built better and will give better performance in low light. With that said, the 50 is a little difficult for anything more than portraits indoors, unless you have large rooms to zoom with your feet.   I used primes for a long time, and still do quite often, but for kids and a wide variety of situations, I would suggest a 17-50 with at least a constant 2.8 aperture, and then get an external flash with whatever diffuser suits your fancy. You'll get good images in a wide variety of situations.    In fact, until you want to invest a little more, your best bet may be to just go with the external flash, a diffuser, and look at some resources on how to bounce the flash. You could even look at diffusers and bounce cards for the built-in flash to get better images right now. I know some people have rigged index cards and rubber bands to bounce the internal flash.   The 40mm pancake lens is another option you could look at.   Check B&H and Amazon for used stuff to stay closer to your budget.
  17.  Good to know.   The point is that Wal-mart, even with political pressure after Sandy Hook, continued to sell guns and ammunition and did not gouge or really raise their prices. But K-Mart quit selling handgun ammunition to be politically correct, after Michael Moore whined to them with cameras rolling.   If you're following your conscience to choose where you vote with your dollars, sounds like you shouldn't be shopping at either one. Though Wal-mart may not be the gun community's best friend, K-Mart is most assuredly in bed with the enemy.
  18.   The same K-Mart that quit selling handgun ammunition because it scared Michael Moore?
  19. I'm likely in, just waiting on a price.
  20. So no price or model yet, right?   I'd be in at the right price on one of those Les George Rockeyes with a plain edge.
  21.   Stephanie helped us when we bought our house, and of the four we worked with then, she was head and shoulders above the rest. Really worked hard to find what we wanted, and was very knowledgable.    http://sconner.crye-leike.com
  22.   You're likely thinking of the public range at Sciota, but I think Mr Lagrange—who has posted in an old thread—is asking about places closer to Knoxville.
  23. I was just down that way a couple of weeks ago. I liked the Lowry Zoo in Tampa and the Armed Forces Museum in Largo. Took a ride in an M8 scout vehicle there. Clearwater reminded me of Myrtle Beach. Lots of people. If you want fewer folks, you could head toward Indian Rocks Beach. There's quite a few public access points there, and nowhere near the amount of people compared to Clearwater.   We also went the the Dali Museum in St. Pete. Really incredible work, and if you have an appreciation for human endeavor, it is certainly worth the trip.
