I've had a few Benchmade knives in the past but most of knives have been ProTech for the last several years. I was disappointed with the one Microtech I owned.

Carried a 1911 for many years. Frequently carry a Shield Plus or P938 now.

I have a few pistols from Springfield. Good reliable pistols with good warranty. My last few 1911s have been from Dan Wesson.

I've had an auto open in my pocket but I wasn't injured. All my knives have a safety now.

Glad to hear your Microtech works well. I purchased one years ago and it was difficult to operate. I thought it would improve with use however it became more difficult to open and almost impossible to retract. It has become an expensive letter/package opener.

Which ever caliber you choose, be warned the 1911 is highly addictive. You will likely own several in a short time.

That being said, I prefer minimal customizing when I buy second hand and I tend to customize parts that can be taken back to stock fairly easily or with known proven parts. I tend to stay away from custom colors, frame modifications, stippling, relief cuts etc.
I purchase a 1911 built to the requirements I desire for the pistol. The only changes I make may be different grips.
