  1. 1pointofview, before you make a decision, check out the earth coupled heat pumps.  They cost significantly more initially than the air exchange types but are much more efficient.  I know a guy that has that system and claims to be running an electric bill of less than $250/mo total for 7,000 sq ft.  It's new construction with high efficiency everything but that's still pretty impressive.  I installed Trane high efficiency combo units (propane furnace for heat/electric AC) but wish I'd looked harder at the earth coupled heat pumps.  The Trane units are very good.  There's so little heat being wasted through the vent that they piped with PVC vent pipe.   When you build consider 2x6 studs on the outer walls with the blown cellulose insulation and a very careful application of house wrap (tape the seams, around the windows, etc.)  Also, high efficiency windows (double pane with the metallic coating and filled with argon).  We did those things and the difference is huge.  Right now at 9 degrees outside I can stand by a window and it just feels slightly cool.  No drafts anywhere either.  Which ever heat/AC system you chose the quality of construction/insulation will make a big difference.
  2. The OP shows a "northern Indiana" location.  HCP regulations vary widely by state.  The law there is not the law in Tennessee.  I'm not aware of any requirements, except for the initial background check, etc. when buying through an FFL or Class 3 items, to "register" any gun in Tennessee. Like Nightrunner said, you see a lot of .22 target pistols used to qualify.
  3. 208 N. Main Street.      615/792-0351    I haven't stopped by in a couple of weeks.  At that time they expected to have the range (25 yd. archery & 25 yd. pistol, rifles to 30 cal.) and the simulator open in mid to late February.  They are still doing a lot of remodeling on the building and their early inventory was somewhat limited but they said they are getting shipments almost daily.  They also said that they had not planned to open this quick but when they started construction lot of people were stopping by and asking "when?" so they opened the doors.    FYI - I'm not affiliated w/the business - just excited to have a local store and indoor range!
  4. Jeff, thanks to you, all of CMT Tactical's people and the TGO staff that made this possible.  I'll definitely be contacting your for more parts when I start to build.. I've also told others about CMT and what you have done for the "local folks".  Should generate some future business because they like having a Tennessee based high quality manufacturer.
  5. I checked out the new Ashland City Armory today, just opened last Saturday.  Still a lot of construction activity on the building and more inventory arriving daily according to the staff.  Plans include an indoor archery range, a 25 yd. pistol and rifle range (up to 30 caliber rifles) and a Megitt Training System F.A.T.S. 7 simulator that they expect to have ready by mid to late February.  They also plan to offer training and permit classes after the range is completed and certified.
  6. I tried to watch that video clip but I couldn't stomach it.  Most arrogant and obnoxious #%**#! I can imagine.  I thought she showed a lot of restraint to take what he was "shipping".
  7. I've been out of town and just checked my bags:   #1 -  5.11 Watch Cap and a SOG combination fire starter/sharpener #2 -  5.11 Watch Cap and 100 ft. of 7 strand Paracord    Sorry, no picture.  Lots to do and very little time.
  8. Something's Up.  My two bags are lightweights - only weigh 1.6 pounds!!
  9. Got this e-mail yesterday:   "Mission delay! Your order contains merchandise that is temporarily on backorder. Please be assured that the backordered item(s) will be arriving to our warehouse shortly. You won't be charged for that backorder until it is back in stock and shipping out to you.   Your order will remain in open status in our system until the merchandise has arrived back in stock. As soon as we receive the backordered product, your order will be filled and shipped out to you immediately. A shipping confirmation email will follow at that time.   If you need to ship the in stock items now or make any changes to the order, please email us at Priority@LAPoliceGear.com. To check the status of your order at any time, click here, click Customer Service, and enter in your order number and the zip code from your billing address."   Interesting for a couple or reasons: 1) looks like they may be special ordering "stuff" to put in the bags and 2) I had the same experience with my last LA Police Gear order.  It was accepted and confirmed as in-stock then a few days later it was "out of stock" - took several weeks to get the remaining items.  I may have to rethink spending my money with this company.      UPDATE:  Looks like I won't have a long delay this time.    Mission accomplished! This email contains the tracking information for your order. The payload is en route - now your mission begins. In a few weeks time, we will send you another email asking for your opinion on the products you received. Please help your fellow operators and share your opinion when the time comes! If you have any questions, please reply to this email or give us a call.
  10. I jumped in about 10:20 and got two bags just for the fun of it.  Even if there's just a hat plus one other 'something" in each bag it should be at least a wash.  It doesn't take a lot to keep me happy!
  11. Thanks, Dolomite that's great info.  I'm seriously thinking about 300 Black when I get my TGO lower/upper and this covers a lot of questions.
  12. Glad you "escaped" and came South!  Great folks here, you'll enjoy TGO.  I listen a lot and say very little.  I can learn a lot more that way
  13. This is a really smart time to strike; especially if you are not highly skilled and in high demand employment.  Companies are trying to adapt to Obamacare but the "rules" aren't even written yet.  There are obvious tough decisions they will have to make on insurance costs, coverage of dependents, and a lot of other areas that affect their operating costs.    There was a published report this morning's Nashville Tennessean (yeah, I know): "Last month, we had 60,000 people still looking for work in Middle Tennessee, and that has been going up over the last nine months" said David Penn, Director of the Business and Economic Research Center at the Jones College of Business at Middle Tennessee State University."  Wonder how many of those 60,000 unemployed Tennesseans would be needed to re-staff every Wal-Mart store in the area?
  14. Tin Angel is a favorite for the "Boss".  Scheduling her birthday dinner there. Both the Mad Platter and Monell's original location are in the Germantown area just north of downtown.  I'd recommend both. The Mad Platter is more "romantic" (specialty is a five course dinner).  We share the appetizer. one eats salad, the other has soup and we order an second entrée.   Monell's is open for lunch and dinner all week but their breakfast is unbelievable (Sat & Sun only).  All of their meals are served family style, all you care to eat - good too.  Be prepared to sit at a table of 8-10 people including some that you don't know - some good conversations usually develop around the table though.
  15. Let's add one more jeans manufacturer.  Even better they are here in Tennessee.  http://store.americangusset.com/about.html  Got a new store in Lynchburg too.  Hard to get much better; well aged JD and new jeans - both from "home"!
  16. Definitely want one,  maybe more.
  17. All good thoughts and valuable input.  Thanks.    DaveS, if you hear of anything in the Clarksville area I'd appreciate a "heads up".  I'm in Ashland City; been considering a visit to Midsouth Shooters Supply.  Nothing against in-lines; I just want to try the "old ways".  Question is how old - flint or percussion??     Caster, if "smoke poles" and old farts go together I'll fit right in.  I've heard them called a lot of things including some that would upset TGO David severely if I repeated them. BTW, I enjoy your posts.  I read a lot and say very little (helps hide my ignorance). I'm debating a Lyman GPK kit as an option.  I really don't want to spend more on a learning curve/interest that might not last.   gregintenn, a used TC definitely looks like a good way to consider too.  I slept on the TC Hawken that sold on TGO recently and missed a good deal.  Maybe another opportunity will come along.  I'd like to do business with a TGO member before a sight unseen purchase from somewhere far away.     bajabuc, a Hawken by Uberti  sure gets high marks from everyone but I think my odds of finding one are just a little better than the chance I'll see Big Foot over in the Harpeth Bottoms!  Sounds like the folks lucky enough to have one don't let it go easily.  Who knows, I've seen stranger things happen.  Thanks for the interesting posts you put on the board.   RED333, nice collection!  The revolving rifles/shotguns are interesting.  The first ones I ever saw were in the Frank Phillips Museum near Bartlesville, OK.  There's one room from his son's collection that's always amazing but you never know what you'll find because he changes it out as he choses.  One very interesting display is his collection of 1911's - he only collects prototypes!  There's also an another unique Colt collection that includes several examples that the Colt factory museum doesn't own.
  18. I've decided that I want to try something different.  Any black powder shooters/activities in the Nashville area?   I'm also looking for thoughts, etc. on a good beginner's rifle and gear. I've about settled on a percussion instead of a flint lock for my first one.  There's plenty to learn without throwing sparks!  I like traditional things; no in-line for sure.  I'm thinking either .50 or .54 but I'm flexible.  I'll be mostly "fun" shooting but don't want to eliminate the option to hunt.  Thanks in advance.
  19. I'll go for two.  Looks like a good way to start building and to own a couple of unique toys!
  20. I worked with them on some documentation questions yesterday.  At that time they were filling orders received on January 3rd.  Mine was entered Feb 8th looks like I'll be waitiong at least 45 days.
