  Yes. Because of this LA and a few other states(I think) went on to pass laws to make sure this doesn't happen again(supposedly).    Florida recently passed a law that if you need to bug out during a state of emergency you can carry your firearm(s) even if you don't have a CCW for up to 3 days. Previously the law stated that even people with CCW permits couldn't be armed during a state of emergency. This applied to the entire state. So even if there was a hurricane in the Keys you couldn't carry up in the panhandle. 

I understand the risk. I'm just asking how the police have any legal way of making you leave your house. 

I've always wondered about the legality of cops being able to force you from your home during an emergency. Have courts ruled on this in the past?

That could have turned out really bad for those officers. I'm glad it didn't though.

This is an excellent reason to have a bug out bag handy. My friend is just outside the evac zone. He says he can smell it in the air.   It would be a good idea to keep some of those medical masks or a bandanna in your BOB for events like this. They have other uses as well.

A cop can charge you with DUI even if you're under the legal limit. If you have your gun on you AND you've been drinking me thinks you're asking for trouble. It's going to depend on what type of mood the cop is in honestly.

I'm surprised FL still has the waiting period. I had no idea until I moved here. It only applies to handguns which I always found comical.   So I can walk out today with an AK-47 but I have to wait 3 days for a Walther p22....makes perfect sense.

Unfortunately we live in a time where there is just too much liability with letting complete strangers come shoot on your property. If I ever have land where I'm able to shoot it will only be for close friends and family whom I trust won't sue me if they accidentally blow their toe off.

There is a large percentage of Puerto Rican people where I live and from conversations with them it seems P.R is riddled with corruption and controlled by cartel type families.    Just because this is the new law doesn't mean the local LEO's there will abide by it. I don't think I would want to be a test case there honestly. It is supposed to be a great place to visit though. 

  Yes and it's not paid in person. Everything is paid ahead of time from the riders account.   But I doubt most criminals knows this....

So they think they can prevent their drivers from carrying a gun in their personally owned vehicles?    That's cute.

  I was under the impression that is no longer the case. When they passed constitutional vehicle carry back on 7/1/14 I thought you could now carry with a round in the chamber either with or without a HCP. This applied to any firearm, not just handguns.   Mac should be along shortly to correct me if I'm wrong.
