Do you think Mike Rowe is right about US consumers?
White Goodman replied to BigK's topic in General Chat
It's not remotely close to double. He paid the same amount for a house as I did in Knoxville and like TN, they have no state tax. His life is quite a bit better there than here. Who would want to do the same hard job for 50% less? -

Companies like this aren't moving to TN out of kindness or some love for our state. They are doing it for cheap labor and a lower tax burden. Our pay here is substantially less than other parts of the country. As long as people keep walking in the door willing to assemble guns for $16/hour, they don't have to pay more. My friend left TN and moved to Washington St where he makes over $120k as a nurse. The same job in TN was paying him $55k. -

I don't know what this has to do with anything. What generation of people do you think moved all the manufacturing overseas the last 50+ years? Here's a hint- it wasn't young people. -
I have a Jackery 500. I also have their 60W solar panel but it doesn't work great. Wish I would have invested in a better one.

Recently I had ammo delivered. The box arrived and it was sealed but there was no ammo inside. Just some packing paper. Bass Pro sent me a replacement order.

Things the next generation simply won't understand

Old dudes have been saying this about every generation behind them since the beginning of time. Including yours. -
I didn't read every response but it's crazy how versatile air fryers are. My wife uses ours to hard boil(fry?) Eggs. Soak them in cold water afterwards to make the shells easier to peel. We make a mean grilled cheese sandwich in ours too.

And if not for that random street camera they may have been successful in covering it up. They cannot be trusted.

Have you forgotten what happened?

I'll never own a 2WD truck. There is nothing worse in snow. Even a Honda Civic would be better. I was thankful for my truck this week.

I think sun/shade makes a difference too. My neighbors that shovelled their driveway after the first day have remained dry and clear ever since, even after the rain. A friend of mine has a flamethrower. I would have been a hero with that thing.

I'm not sure if I shared this but when we went to Finland in November our rental had studded snow tires. I was amazed at how much traction I had. They mandate snow tires there and do not use salt. They put down crushed gravel. Even the buses had no issue getting up and down snow covered hills. Never saw a single wreck. I'm a believer in studded snow tires. Took me 15 minutes to get my wife's car out of our driveway this morning even with traction boards. This storm taught me you really have to shovel the snow before it turns to ice. I won't make that mistake again.

What were their sleeping bags rated to? That's impressive.

You'd think they would learn by now that this has no impact on us. If anything, it just distracts me and makes me less careful.

Yours is worse than my Darrell. Not good.

As if I didn't have enough to worry about, I have ice dams in my gutters. Anyone deal with this yet?
-
That's a bold statement.

I had to drive a complete strangers car earlier. Older woman was visibly shaking trying to make it down my hill. I got in and got her turned around. She wanted me to drive her KIA down the hill but I vetoed that idea. This has been a crazy week.

I tried to go to the gym this morning but turned around. The snow has been compacted into a sheet of ice in my neighborhood. Still haven't seen a plow. They are hoping to have all the roads treated by Saturday.
-
A lot of my neighbors chose to shovel their driveways. I never thought I'd see that here and I don't even own a snow shovel. I'm wondering if I should have done the same.

Tennessee's population has grown by 1.6 million residents in that time period. I can't imagine these companies have been great about updating infrastructure like they should have been. We've also had back to back severe cold weather events the last two winters.
-
Transplants? I thought that too but some of the comments came from locals. You'd think they would know better. Some people just want to complain about everything.
-
Man I'm always amazed by the stupid comments online. People are complaining that Knox City/County has not plowed or treated certain roads. What limited plows we have are working 24/7 to treat the roads. This isn't Buffalo, NY. We don't have the resources to quickly deal with 10" of snow.
-
Both. I try to avoid sharp turns while in 4x4 because it's hard on the CV axles. They can bind. So I flip back and forth as needed. I think our roads can be a lot steeper here than middle TN so 4x4 is definitely needed at times. It also just helps increase traction at times when all 4 tires are working.
