  1. What load are you using?   You talk about casting in another thread. Are you shooting cast bullets in an AR? I would like to do this but there are concerns about plugging up the gas system. Any issues with that? Any precautions being taken?   To the OP - Thanks for the link. That is a much better price than I have found.
  2. I don't recall having seen an upper for sale lately with a carbine length tube. All have had pistol length tubes, no matter the barrel length.   Thanks for the pdf.
  3. THP has been shooting the full size Glock in 357 Auto for some time now, and not 9mm. Have they made a switch or added something?
  4. I was planning on going tomorrow morning but doubt I will make this. Would someone mind posting a review of the "show," anything unusual or collectable and average pricing? Thanks.
  5. What does your wife want? Carrying is a huge responsibility. Is she interested enough in doing her own research to determine what she would like to carry?   ANY new pistol owner should not waste money trying to trade in the first pistol on the second pistol, which should be what they want. ANY new pistol owner should waste that money on renting the various firearms available whether they may have an interest or not and then shooting those firearms to determine whether they like the firearm.   I don't know how many times I have heard a man tell a woman, "you 'need' a 38 snub," watch them purchase that snub and then go straight to the range with a 158 grain LSWC loads that are high pressure. The woman gets a big surprise when she rolls that trigger back for the first time and it is usually not good. If it works for them that is great but I have seen advanced shooters that did not like shooting something that jumped around in their hands and burnt the hair off their fingers at every round.   I have shot a lot of 38 snub and a lot of G 26/27. These guns are not for novice shooters but advanced shooters willing to shoot every month if they want to be competent with their firearm. When you spend that kind of time getting to know your weapon you can win some money on the range from people who do not believe how well they perform.   I can only recommend someone take it slow and go with what feels good in their hands and shoots good as well. They will stay involved in the industry for a longer period of time when taking that route.
  6. it's your call but I don't see the value in withholding information that was given to you by a government employee that affects us all. It will only lead to further speculation here, which is a waste of time. Can you at least divulge the name of our current examiner? I have found at least two different names and will have to call after next week.
  7. The only two references I can find regarding the nonprocessing of Form 1's and 4's associated with Trusts/Corporations both pertain to the government shut down. Perhaps this led everyone to assume NO forms of this type were being processed? Is it possible processing for everything has started back up after the shutdown was ended?
  8. I have never heard the name. Can you post up a link? If he does a good job I don't mind recommending him as well.
  9. I am not familiar with the entire process. Would this mean they are in fact processing trusts during the public response date, or is it possible your forms were approved before the discussion started in September and it took that long for the Branch to mail it to you?
  10. The eforms saved me a great deal of time in having to hand write, seal up and deliver the paperwork so while I understand where you are coming from I would use that route again instead of the hard copy route. I also was able to submit LESS paperwork than someone mailing in their forms. When forms are being processed the eforms also save you anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months as stated above. At a minimum you have to wait for the mail to arrive at the Branch, the check to be deposited and cleared by the bank before reaching the submitted stage. I know I am splitting hairs when we could be talking about an 18 month wait but what the heck. 17 months and 1 weeks is better than 18 months. :)   Regarding the NFA Branch having stopped processing, do you have a press release or something else besides the rumor mill on that point? I have heard the rumor and have not seen evidence that it was untrue, but likewise don't have anything validating that situation. Rather than tie up the system by stopping a processor to discuss this on the phone I think I will just wait for the fireworks next month. Since I have already saved a couple of weeks with the eforms I have a couple to spare before I have to wait for the 18 months. Who knows what'll happen.
  11. I forgot to add:   All of this was so I will be able to SBR a Spike's Tactical AR15 lower. Upper will be 10.2 inch Noveske with NSR rail in 300 Blackout.
  12. I finally got this off my plate and in the hands of the government. Now the wait begins. Below is the route I took in chronological order: November, 2012 - David Goldman Trust Setup - Normally it costs $700 for Goldman to set up a trust but last November he had a black Friday special running for $500 for the same package. I talked with wife and son about this and decided to go for it. My reasoning was that two lawyers, one certified in my home state and the other a purported expert in the NFA industry regarding gun trusts would be working on the project with very little time on my part. With the discount I am basically getting a free tax stamp; December, 2012 - Goldman and I discussed the issue with my wife and son having access to the vault and what happens in the event of my/our deaths. After only a couple of emails going back and forth he sends basic docs that answer most questions by first week in December; January, 2013 - The fall out from Sandy Hook starts and scuttlebutt has it all Class 3 will be banned by Executive Order. I have no better info so I decide to hold onto my $200 for now; June, 2013 - Some of the danger has passed but I have way to much going on to sit down and look over more paperwork; November, 15, 2013 - I contact Goldman and notify him of my intentions to proceed. He cautions me to do so BEFORE 12/09/13 since that is when the ATF is expected to change procedure and Trusts and make it required for everyone, including Trust trustees, to submit CLEO signature, photo and prints. Mind you the feds said they were considering doing away with CLEO signature althogether but this turns out to be wrong. It is unknown whether ATF will grandfather in all applicants that submit before 12/09/13. It is unknown whether any proposed changes will take place. Time will tell; November 22, 2013 - First date I am able to get all three of us to the bank to sign docs and set up separate account for Trust. This takes approximately 90 minutes since bank has to work with others on how exactly the account will be set up for trust; November 26, 2013 - Scanned all docs and submitted to Goldman in PM. They reviewed for accuracy by next AM. This is the day I discover a CLEO in TN is bound by law to sign off in 15 days or communicate why you are not allowed to own something of this nature. This was one concern I had but not the largest concern so I move forward with the trust route anyway; November 27, 2013 - Did a small amount of reading on how to submit electronically. Started process and was finished in about one hour. Process is somewhat difficult but doable. Paid with card. Account was dinged immediately once process was validated and submitted. By submitting via the eforms I have saved anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months, depending upon whom you talk with. Summary - I wish I had had better info in January regarding the political situation and whether the President can outlaw something that fast by EO alone. Had I known better I would have submitted the paperwork in January regardless of the political situation.   I would do the Goldman trust route again. He makes it painless, reviews your needs, consults with a lawyer certified in your state to make certain everything is legal in your state and is on retainer to answer questions regarding the process. I do not ever want to invest the amount of time it would have taken me to dig into setting up my own trust. It was well worth the money, especially when you consider it is a one time expense. Assuming there are no dramatic changes after 12/09/13 I just repeat the process for a can, another SBR, or the SBS I have always wanted.   At the moment I strongly suggest you go the "Class 3" route for something, anything, ASAP. If you are talking about turning your AR into an SBR put off the purchase of an accessory until you have the SBR paperwork submitted. Don't want to pay $200 in taxes? Find a Mossberg Cruiser shotgun and pay the $5 AOW tax. Class 3 stuff is a big commitment. It does involve more money, bonafide registration with the government, and more hassle on your part. However, I truly believe the end result is one declaring ourselves to have faith in the system and a steadfast resolve to support our industry, the whole thing. This simple act says we have the courage to not hide in the shadows but be proud of the fact that we are part of this culture, our heritage. I hope you will join me in supporting our country no matter what trust/cleo route you decide to take or what type of item you decide to buy.
  13. I received this from the NRA. Apparently the Senators vote at some level on this law tomorrow. I sent an email to all of 'em. Tennessee: 2013 Version of the Safe Commute Act to be Heard in Senate Committee on Tuesday The Tennessee Senate Judiciary Committee will hear and consider the 2013 Safe Commute Act on Tuesday, February 5 at 3:30 p.m. in the Legislative Plaza Room 12. If enacted, the 2013 Safe Commute Act would recognize that hard-working Tennesseans’ right to self-defense does not end when they drive onto their employer’s property or into publicly accessible parking lots. Senate Bill 142, sponsored by Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey (R-4), would allow individuals with a valid handgun carry permit to transport and store a firearm or firearm ammunition in the permit holder’s privately-owned motor vehicle in public or private parking areas under certain conditions. Please call AND e-mail members of the Senate Judiciary Committee TODAY and respectfully urge them to support Senate Bill 142 on February 5 using the contact information provided below. Its companion bill, House Bill 118, sponsored by state Representative Jeremy Faison (R-11), has not been scheduled for a House committee hearing yet. Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org for updates on the progress of the 2013 Safe Commute Act. 14. The military and LEO market are far bigger? IDK but would like to see some actual stats on that.   Still, if ALL manufacturers stood up as an industry like they just did with the Eastern show it most definitely could have an impact since those organizations have to have the products from somewhere and there could be an outpouring from the line troops in the cities. I guess the point is we all have some level of leverage and should use it wisely yet often. BTW, has everyone contacted their elected officials this week?
  15. Here is a link to the article: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2013/01/30/politics/rybak-firearms-manufacturers Summary: Mayor wants to punish gun makers if they don't stop selling semiautomatics to citizens outside of military and LEO circles and/or lobby for stricter gun control. Mayor notes President's office is "delighted" with their announcement to do such. My Response was to point out that I will refuse to venture into their city and spend a single dime while being very close, certainly within a morning's ride, later this year if they start doing such a thing. Below is the actual response I just emailed to the Mayor's office. I also asked that he be sure and publish a list of all Mayor's who decide to follow along with this plan so I know not to venture into those areas as well. I strongly urge you to vote with your money also. It is funny that on this Mayor's blog he also brags about crime rates in Minn. being at a decade low and stresses that he and others must find a way to control this gun violence. My comments to his office: "It is my understanding you seek to punish gun manufacturers and NOT criminals who show no personal responsibility for crimes being committed in your city. It is also my understanding you reported the President's office was "delighted" by this idea. Two points I need to make: 1. I sincerely hope Smith & Wesson and your officers and security agents will be delighted by Smith supplying ONLY revolvers to these officers for their and your defense and not those evil automatics. (Please note that last bit was sarcastic.); 2. Please note we will need a listing of ALL Mayors who intend to follow you along this path. I will be sure and spread the word down here that our money should NOT be spent on visits to your cities but on matters that support our Constitution. Y'all have a great weekend." I have sent the following email to Liz Sharp of S&W. lsharp@smith-wesson.com This was the only non general inbox email I could locate. I found this on the Smith and Wesson forums at http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/292079-smith-wesson-withdraws-eastern-sports-outdoor-show.html. "According to the news article at the below link (I included the above link) there could be a boycott of gun manufacturers by certain Mayors if gun manufacturers do not begin lobbying for stricter gun control measures. I just wanted to thank S&W for its support on the Eastern Show situation and let you know that I will continue to support the company that has produced the M&P 45 ACP I currently use to protect myself and my family with on a daily basis. Please keep up the good work and let me know if I can do anything to assist." I suggest we let everyone know that we either support or do not support their agenda. That is taking an active role in the preservation of our rights and our Constitution. Thanks.
