  1. From "WebMD"...   "Research begun in the 1950s has shown that when we recover from childhood chickenpox infections, the virus that causes the infection, varicella zoster virus, remains latent in nerve cells.  What causes reactivation of the virus is unclear, but as we age, experts believe the immune responses that keep varicella zoster virus dormant in the nerves weaken with age. One in three people will get shingles during their lifetime, and at least half of all people 85 and older have had the ailment."
  2.   Here's a link to Bud's Sevierville's website. Just click on the shooting range tab for rates & what's available. Looks like $20 per hour for the range & about $1 per minute for the training simulator. http://www.budsgunshoptn.com/shooting-range/
  3. My dad got shingle this past spring at the age of 66. He caught it early, but it spread from his right shoulder blade, around his right side & part way across his chest. It took about a month to fully clear up & another month for the pain to go away. He said it felt like a blow torch on his chest at night for the first couple weeks & lemon juice on a cut for a couple weeks after that. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.
  4.   That may have something to do with the choice of location. I've known for years that Bud's store in Lexington was the only retail location outside of SMKW that actually had a SMKW knife display. Locationg next door & having a good business relationship would make sense.
  5.   They don't price match with the Bud's Lexington online price because Bud's in Seveirville is a privately owned franchise store. You can have Bud's in Lexington transfer the rifle to the Sevierville location & get the "cash" price by either paying Bud's online with a debit card or mailing a MO to their Lexington location. I've mailed MO to Bud's in KY & actually had my pistol in hand at my FFL within two days. It's a simple & fast way to pay & get your item.
  6.   If you're talking about Bud's in Lexington (The Gun Warehouse), many of their in store prices are lower than their online prices to help make up for "free" shipping. I haven't been to the Sevierville location yet, but I have visited the Lexington location several times & noted that many of their handguns are priced $20-$40 cheaper if you buy them at the retail location. I called the Sevierville location about a week ago for a price & asked if they were planning to list guns & prices online like the Lexington location does, but was told they don't have any plans of listing their in stock guns or prices online. I wish they would, but I also understand that with stock rotating as fast as it does it would be a pain to keep up with.
  7.   I wonder what impact this will have since we'll soon be entering cold & flu season? They just announced on the news tonight that over 100 people are being "monitored" because of contact with the ebola patient & his family. Of course I don't expect this to have the same widespread negative impact as HIV/AIDS, but it could cost lives or make a lot of people very sick if it's not taken more seriously than the CDC & govt. are now. Take steps to stop it now before it spreads across the U.S. & our schools, etc...
  8.   Thanks. I'll be sure to pass this along to him.   The Carcano wouldn't have been my first choice, but all he heard from the seller was "it's the same type of rifle used to kill Kennedy" & he was hooked. Like I said, he doesn't think things through. He's also 22 going on 12, but what can you do when he won't take advice? He has a little over $350 just in the rifle & still has no ammo & no stripper clips. Basically he has an expensive door prop at the moment.
  9. My brother in law recently traded a new handgun for a rough looking Carcano in 6.5x52mm. The problem with my BIL is he doesn't think things through & he got the rifle without any clips, sling, bayonet, or ammo & never bothered to see if ammo was redily available before trading. The guy he got the rifle from told him that 6.5x52mm is extremely easy to find & only costs $10-$15 per box. I've tried to help him find some online but it's been priced for double to triple that online & most is listed as out of stock. My LGS says they can't get it at all. Does anyone know of anywhere in the Knoxville/Oak Ridge area that sells Carcano ammo? He's also looking for clips, but we can pick them up online if necessary. Any help would be appreciated.
  10. Surely not! I thought that bringing in ebola patients from Africa here to the U.S. was suppost to keep us safe. Oh, yeah. That's right. It won't! Bringing the ebola virus into the U.S. is a bad thing...& I don't even have a medical degree. Who do I tell, "I told you so" to?
  11.   +1. They allowed .22 where my wife & I went. The only handgun they didn't allow at our class was single action revolvers. I guess it makes sense since 99% of people won't choose a SA revolver for SD carry, but it disapointed my wife since she had recently bought her first handgun; a Ruger Single Six, & was hoping to use it. The instructor had an assortment of about 10 handguns in a selection of calibers that he loaned out for free to anyone that needed one. My wife used one of the free loaner pistols & got a perfect score on her range test so it worked out fine.
  12. You'll need 50 rounds for the test. I always suggest using the pistol you plan to use for SD carry, but you can use any pistol or caliber you prefer. Since my Beretta .45 acp was going to be my main carry pistol, that's what I used for my shooting test. I got my permit 3 1/2 years ago & we had to shoot 49 rounds at 5, 7, 9, (10 rounds each) & 15 yards (19 rounds), but I'm not sure if there's a certain mandatory distance or if it's set by the individual instructor. Just relax & enjoy it & you'll do fine. It's nothing to sweat over.
  13.   Bingo! It's also a form of self segregation. As a minority they ask for equal rights, but they don't really mean it & it's earned a black history month, numerous black only colleges, "Black Miss America", NAACP, UNCF, & dozens of others. Ever hear the term "double standard"? "Hypocrite" also comes to mind. I've only met a few true African Americans in my life. They were born in Africa & moved here. I don't care what color your skin is. If you were born here in the U.S. you're an American. I don't go around asking to be called "Cherokee-Lakota-Scotish American". It would sound rediculous & people would have a hard time taking me seriously if I did. It's the same with the term "African American".
  14. FOX news..... "Moore Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis said police are waiting until Alton Nolen, 30, is conscious to arrest him in Thursday's attack and have asked the FBI to help investigate after co-workers at Vaughan Foods in the south Oklahoma City suburb told authorities that he recently started trying to convert several employees to Islam."   So...will the media call him a radical Islamic Muslim, islamic convert, or another one of Obama's misunderstood thug sons?
  15.   I'm not talking about people that wish to have a civil discussion or give opinions without making threats or calling names or making personal remarks about us worshiping the Easter Bunny, etc. A discussion about God vs no God can be healthy, but kept civil. I respect your right to chose to be an athiest & agree there can be extremist on both sides of the coin. I won't call a person names if they choose not to believe & I expect the same in return. What I feel infringes on my rights are the anti prayer/anti religious folks that actually take steps to ban prayer because it might offend someone, or want to tryo to get the pricipal fired, or make threats against us who do chose to pray. The articles don't go into detail about what's happening in the community & some of the threats that have been made in emails, etc... aren't released & they are being investigated. Some of the teenagers are scared to come forward.   I have no problem with voiced opinions or compromise, but banning or making religion illegal IS trying to control people's heart's & mind's because religious beliefs is very important in the lives of millions of people. The big picture is more than simply banning it at sporting events. Where will it stop? It's no different than banning the 1st amendment & working your way down the list. What if a group of people got together & told you that YOU were wrong for loving your children, wife, or family & would press charges, get you fired, or harm you or your family if you disagreed? Wouldn't you take that to heart? What about genocide? My examples sound extreme, but small things tend to snowball & it has happended around the world. Having faith in God is not grounds for harrassment or mistreatment by anyone so long as we do no harm. It's perfectly ok for anyone to voice an opinion & to disagree, but groups like the ACLU are making life stressful for people they don't even know & don't care about to begin with by taking rights. It's all about control & those that gain power (govt., politicians, anti groups, etc...) don't often know when to quit. One day even the right to give an opinion may be taken.   I do understand many people may find prayers at the beggining of a ball game offensive, but what harm has it done? Are laws condemning prayer actually making the world a better place or is it simply pacifying those with a bug up their shorts? 30 seconds of prayer won't make anyone's head explode unless they have a bomb in their hat set for 29 seconds.   I apologize if my comments have offended members, but an apology is all I can give. My statements are my opinion & how I personally feel, not intended to insult anyone or meant to start an arguement. If the mods feel I've overstepped my bounds let me know & we can close the thread. Otherwise I hope we can keep it friendly.
  16. It's clear athiests can't truely discuss religion since they think it's the same thing as the Easter Bunny or a cartoon character in their minds. They clearly have the right to feel that way, but NOT to infringe on the rights of believers... just like another "anti" group we often tak about. The anti religious have an unexplainable fear of something they don't understand & want to get rid of it...just like another "anti" group we often talk about. See a pattern yet? The ACLU is completely wrong in trying to ban any & all forms of religious freedom because it strikes at the hearts of human nature. I know the principal personally & he's not a trouble maker & isn't driven by some dark unknown force. I saw one rediculous comment about firing him, wich doesn't make any sense, first since you don't know anymore than the news article told you, & because he's actually looking out for the rights & freedom of the the student body he cares about. What are you all so afraid of? The anti religious are actually worse than the anti gun groups because they're trying to control the heart's & mind's of citizens within society. When people use the excuse, "well, the ACLU made it a rule...or the govt said so in a vote...", it's nothing more than a cop out by control freaks. Remember that when the 2nd amendment is taken by the same type of liberals that wanted to ban religion in schools. Banning free speech & religion in schools is socialism 101. I say live & let live, have a nice day, & do no harm to others when possible. Life is much simpler than people make it. :)
  17. I wasn't able to make the drive today. I wanted to meet him, but I guess emails will have to do for now. There's no way I'm missing Beretta days in October though. Next month it's gonna be Bud's or Bust. :usa:
  18.   Try to keep that in mind when your gun rights are attacked by anti's who want to ban the 2nd amendment. After all, since they don't like guns they must know what's best, right? I wonder if the people that are so anti prayer will get in line & cower as easily when their gun rights are taken. Blame it on the "establishment"? Liberal is as liberal does. The begginig of socialism is taking away the freedom of speech, religion, & arms. Some seem to desperately want the first two already. Are you going to give up you firearms now too? You don't have to follow my prayers & it's your right to believe or not believe in whatever you want, but it's an absolute wrong to try to take it away from those of us that do believe & have faith in God. For some reason athiests seem scared of any form of religion. I know the pricipal, many of the teachers, & many of the students & their families personally & you can trust me when I tell you there's not some dark secret conspiracy to take over or to "pimp shine" (your words Hershmeister ) to get another contract renewal. You have nothing to fear. These are simple people trying to live their simple lives in peace & freedom the best way they can.
  19.   The pricipal didn't force anything on anybody. What the articles failed to mention is the cheerleaders & members of the school body went to the pricipal & told them they were upset about prayer being banned & they were told they could say the prayer during the moment of silence if they wanted to, so yes, even though you may doubt, it was the cheeleaders' idea. The "establishment" was trying not to infringe on the rights of the student body & nobody was asked to pray with them.   I notice how qickly athiests will support banning free people from talking to God, as if it hurts them in some way, but if those athiests are gun owners they get upset when others try to do the exact same thing with their gun rights. I won't force any religion down anyone's throat, but I won't let anyone stop me from having faith in God.
  20. This is a call for prayers because of attacks from the TN ACLU & members of the public. Oneida High School (Scott County) is where both of my parents, my brother & I graduated from, & both of my young sons currently attend. My family & I even live across the street from the school. Right now OHS is getting national attention for allowing prayers before football games & a lot of it is negative. The TN ACLU is attacking our school & the cheerleaders & their families have even recieved threats of violence from members of the public. We're a close community with long standing traditions & after nearly 100 years prayers in our school we WILL NOT stop no matter who it affends. Over the years we've seen what happens in our nation's schools when prayer is removed. Westboro Bpt. Church even had the nerve to send members to my town a few years ago on another matter & we stood together & ran them out. Please keep us in your prayers. We need it now more than ever.   Please click lnks for more... http://www.wbir.com/story/news/local/scott-campbell-morgan/2014/09/19/oneida-cheerleaders-bullied-for-pregame-prayer/15911031/ http://www.wbir.com/story/news/local/scott-campbell-morgan/2014/09/19/oneida-cheerleaders-appear-on-fox-news/15884681/ http://www.wbir.com/story/news/local/scott-campbell-morgan/2014/09/15/cheerleaders-bring-prayers-back-to-the-football-field/15700459/
  21. Have you considered the PX4 Storm? Here's a video of a guy shooting the PX4 for the first time & hitting a steel target from 200 & then 300 yards. Not bad at all... http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/2014/09/02/video-math-behind-300-yard-pistol-shot/
  22. Update: I stopped back by the shop today & was talking with the owner & the subject of the German Luger came up. He told me he ended up selling the Luger for $700 to an out of town customer. He said it was being sold on consignment & had sat there priced at $1,200 with no takers for a month so the pistol's owner said for them to sell it for what he had in it. I don't know who bought it, but someone got it for a steal. Congrats to the lucky buyer, but at the same time...  :wall:
