Yep. My parents' bank killed off my Dad many years ago. It was rather a hassle to bring him back to life.

Carver's is good stuff. We usually go there in the fall to get apples, pumpkins, etc. to preserve. Really good fried pies too.

Same here. The traffic is usually horrible. It does have a few redeeming qualities.... eat breakfast at the Pancake Pantry, then find a bench for people watching while you digest, then get stop by the Donut Fryer on the way home. The aquarium is nice too, but its gotten expensive and you have to go during the week.

Good guess. They've been all over the world for quite some time.

I'm sure they knew exactly what it was, they're just not telling.

The pressure difference top to bottom in the balloon is insignificant. The trouble with shooting it with bullets is range. If the highest a fighter can fly safely is about 50,000ft and the balloon is at 65,000ft, that's 3 miles straight up. Add in some horizontal distance and you're looking at a 4 mile shot minimum. That's not feasible, a missile is the only viable option to bring it down. Perhaps a missile with a proximity detonation and let the shrapnel shred the balloon? It'll shred the payload too, so instead of 1 big piece falling from 12 miles up, you've got lots of medium sized pieces. I'd further guess that satellites and other surveillance assets had already determined exactly what it was, and they didn't consider it valuable enough to be worth recovering intact. I doubt there was the equivalent of an Enigma code machine or a Norden bomb sight inside.

I call those the Cuisinart. They'll slice and dice you right up. I saw a guy get into a cable barrier because he didn't notice stopped traffic ahead. The cable failed about 1/4 mile back up the road from where he hit it. The broken end whipped around and whacked a couple more cars, breaking at least 1 window. Imagine if you were on your motorcycle.

A most Excellent Article about the Rich Prepping

I grew up in the shadow of a nuclear power plant. Assuming that would be a prime target, we were comfortable with the idea of a bright light and nothing more. Humility is one of the things I think Eastern culture does far better than Western culture. -

That Dreaded Noise in the Night!
peejman replied to Dennis1209's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
My parents have an ADT system and we did too at our old house. I don't have one now because their monitoring fees got outrageous, defeating the system is super easy, and it's designed for detection, not prevention. There's no reason whatsoever for the interior alarm to be that loud. All it does is make you unable to hear anything for the following minute or two. In my experience, the "false alarm grace period" was much longer than 30 seconds. More like several minutes. We have a big dog who barks his fool head off at noises.... while running the other way. But I'd guess the sound of a big dog is more intimidating than an alarm to the typical burglar. -
Pressure is the same in every direction. Doesn't matter where you make holes, it will leak at the same rate. Normal air pressure at sea level is 14.7psi. The air pressure at 65,000ft is about 0.8psi and the temp is about -65F. Flying a U2 "near it" likely meant within 10 miles. A collision between the U2 and balloon would yield a smoking hole in the ground. It flies at nearly 500mph and can't maneuver much at all at that altitude.

That would mean there are dozens of subs cruising around on the surface all over the world. The Kursk was 500 ft long and sank in 300 ft of water. The Persian Gulf is only 300 ft deep.

We carry the Sabre gel. Never had to use it but I have sprayed my aged out tube in the back yard and they worked as expected. -
Correct. The ballon was well above the service ceiling of our fighters. The F22 flew up to about 40k feet and let the missile climb the rest of the way to the balloon. I suspect part of the delay was waiting for the submarine with the recovery team to get in position.

You don't want either of those Shinkos for mud. I have the 241's on my bike and they're great everywhere except thick mud. They load up in the sticky mud and quickly become useless. I love splashing through the puddles but I stay out of the gooey stuff. You want a really aggressive MX style tire for mud. Big, widely spaced lugs that will clear easily. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/kenda-k-760-trakmaster-ii-tires https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/shinko-524-525-series-soft-intermediate-tires

I don't think they shot it, I think they buzzed it supersonic and let the shock waves take it down. A friend lives in Myrtle Beach and said he heard 2 sonic booms.

Museum of Appalachia is a really cool place. Go to Colonial Williamsburg and you can watch people make guns that way, it's fascinating. If I was financially independent, I'd go apprentice there.

I'll add.... basic household skills or what we called chores.... laundry, cooking, cleaning, ironing, caring for critters, trash disposal, simple organizing, .... all the things I can't get my teenager to do without threat of bodily harm.

Verbal communication skills. They need the confidence and vocabulary to adequately communicate clearly and with tact. The ability to listen, process what they heard, and respond appropriately. Whether asking or answering, with adult or another child. The value of hard work, and the satisfaction of a job well done. Both physical work of sports or building/fixing things, and mental work of school subjects. Work seems less like drudgery when they can see the goal/end game.

2 Valkyries.... with 12 carburetors between them. Friend of mine has one with about 100k, runs like a top.

It would be Interesting to know if gangs have begun to infiltrate the police. Taking over institutions from within seems to be the new way. All I know is there's a lot of people who need Jesus in their heart.
