  1. I don't see that it has much of anything to do with the 2nd Amendment. It's a product liability issue. Our legal system has decided that it's ok to sue the manufacturer of an item when someone gets hurt using it in a way neither endorsed nor intended.... "reasonably foreseeable misuse". People sued Ford and Firestone when their grossly under inflated tires blew out. People sued McD's after spilling hot coffee on themselves. Ad nauseum... It can't be an individual's fault because that implies some level of personal responsibility for one's actions. It's much easier to assign fault to the faceless corporation. And they usually have more money to pay out.
  2. Welcome! ORSA is a popular choice for what you're looking for.
  3. I carry a Kershaw Cryo flipper. I don't remember if it's the Cryo I or II, it's the smaller of the two. I also sometimes carry a small Boker folder, it's got 4 blades but is smaller than the Kershaw. My Leatherman also has a blade, but I rarely use it for that.
  4. I got to shoot someone's 308 AK years ago. Huge fireball from the muzzle in daylight and it was shatteringly loud. It was awesome!

    PC Advice

People do other things with tablets? She's said she wants a laptop, but my assumption is that between her and the kids it would get broken in short order. Perhaps they're more durable than they used to be. I'm sure. I haven't looked either.

    PC Advice

As I'm PC shopping too, I appreciate all the info here, this is very helpful. Anyone mind if I pile on and ask about tablets too? My wife has decided our 1st gen iPad is no longer adequate.... Another iPad, windows tablet, ...?
  7. What @1gewehr said. M1A has good accuracy. FAL is paper plate accurate and fun to shoot (I have one). AR10's are also fun but not standardized. None of these are light weight toy guns like AR15's.
  8. Sorry to hear about the infection. Hospitals are notorious for that and big burns are very easily infected. I'm sure his mom is spent by now, though it can be hard to ask for help. Where are they located?

    PC Advice

What Dave said. We use Lenovo machines at work and while fairly rudimentary, they seem to survive the shop floor abuse reasonably well. Higher end machines are Dells. I'm also in the market for a new PC, which will largely be an internet terminal. We don't do anything at home that requires significant horsepower. Our MIS person told me to sign up for the Dell email notifications. Get a decent machine, max out the RAM and it should run fine for years to come. I've seen decent desktop CPU's for $400-$500. I've already got all the peripherals, all I need is the box.
  10. One of my friends had a similar car when I was little. Good memories.

    Gun Shows

Not sure. Knoxville said no more gun shows a while back. I haven't seen ads for them anywhere else.
  12. Bald Eagles are raptors, and they're aren't any true buzzards in North America. What people refer to as a buzzard is usually a Turkey Vulture.
  13. When the squad leader isn't everyone's favorite person...
  14. I believe its based on how the property is taxed, so if you're zoned agricultural and pay property taxes at the farm rate, then you have a farm as far as the .gov is concerned.
  15. I don't discriminate, I'd shoot the cat, my wife, and the kids.
  16. Interesting that there's not an oil light or low pressure cut off. Engines must not cost that much to replace.
  17. Clearly it's binding somewhere. The mechanism isn't that complicated. Strange that the pull isn't similarly affected.
  18. Neat idea. A guy I work with made me a target out of a cardboard box filled with the 2 part expanding foam used for packaging and shipping stuff. A 60lb draw compound penetrated 6-8" at 15 yds.
  19. We were at the game Saturday and it was entertaining for sure. I'm glad the rain stayed away. Not sure what they're up to with the QB thing. They'd better be careful with Jennings, he's not used to being hit by 330lb linemen. Gaurantano played pretty well. I don't fault him at all for his fear of getting hit. He's gotten pounded for several years behind a line that couldn't give him more than 3 seconds. Hopefully he's getting some confidence back. Im not sure which 12 and under rec league those officials came from, but they need to go back. I'd love to know how that game ranks for overturned scoring plays. If they qualify, they'll definitely get a bowl game. The powers that be know they won't have any trouble selling 60,000 tickets to UT fans.
  20. Wow. That's a huge copperhead and it's color is fantastic. Most of the ones I've seen are much more grey.
  21. Sorry to hear that. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
  22. My wife used to work with a raptor rehab group. Most of the birds suffering from lead poisoning had been shot, so they were injured and on the ground where people could see them and get them. A bird that injests lead in something it ate is likely to just drop dead at some point so there's not a good way to count them. I'm sure this one got attention because it was an eagle. Black Vultures and Turkey Vultures are plentiful here so they're not going to get much attention. The California Condor is one of the more well known examples. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_condor
  23. It doesn't take much. A single lead sinker or shotgun pellet will kill a bird. Birds typically don't pass lead they've injested. Once it hits their stomach, it's there until it dissolves.
  24. I'd lean more toward the pistol for home defense and a handgun class or two beyond the HCP test. Running a carbine inside a house takes more training than most people are interested in. If she decides she enjoys guns and wants to do more, then definitely proceed.
