  1.

The last load was a 55gr Vmax and a 75 gr bthp. Both with 21.5 grains of H335. The starting load was 21 with a max of 23.

Any ideas? Anything to worry about?

I don't have access to the latest manual with the Vmax bullets but the 3rd edition Hornady manual that I have from years ago shows the 55 grain spire point bullet starting load at 21.4 grains delivering 2800 FPS in the test rifle.  Maximum load from this manual is 26.3 grains and shows 3300 FPS but was fired in Remington 700.  I think you might be on the low pressure side of the load rather than max.

  2. Barrel length will cause more unburnt powder to flash, 3031 is slow burning - that high load, with that shorter barrel - and only 2' away from the chronograph. I'd put money down that you had muzzle flash interfering with the chrono. I've seen the same thing with a buddy of mine's Chrony brand chronograph. We were shooting .223 out of my 10.5" ar pistol, couldn't get reliable reads. Moved the chrono out, much more reliable (though higher pucker factor for sure! I didn't want to buy a new chronograph either!)

The Oehler 33 that I own is set up approximately 10' from muzzle per manufacturer's instructions. Check your manual if you have one and set up accordingly. Muzzle blast and powder still burning possibly causing erroneous readings as mentioned already.
  3. I went to the local Walmart about 8:30 PM and they had Federal 550 36 grain hollow point .22 Long Rifle bullets in stock for $23.97 plus tax.  Several WalMart locations in this area had .22 LR stock today.  There could be some in TN.  I used the WalMart app on the smart phone to check inventory and it was correct but the stock was in the warehouse.  The lady working sporting goods went back and got 3 boxes for me.

  4. Never heard of "suspending" one, unless DOT suspended you for infractions.  It's my understanding that if you want to drive a Class A (or B) vehicle period, you have to have current medical card, but maybe I'm been wrong about that all this time.

    - OS

It is permitted here in Missouri... Don't know why it would be different in Tennessee.  Call the office where you renew the license and ask.  I was going to have to downscale to a class E similar to the old chauffers license here. Maybe suspending is not the correct term.  More like retaining it but not allowed to use it for pay.  To start driving for pay I will have to get medical and take it to the DOR and be restored more or less.

  5. I live in Missouri but was able to suspend my CDL Class A license at the DOR where we renew the license.  I can still drive on the license just can't get paid.  I wanted to retain it but didn't want to pay for a medical as I didn't intend to drive anything that required the CDL.

  6. Since you have the Lee lube try putting a small amount of the lube on your finger and hold the case by the neck and rotate it around your finger with the small amount of excess lube.  This is the method I use.  It may be slower than using the pad but I have never stuck a case with the Lee Lube.  I use a RCBS case neck brush and just run it down into the neck to clean the powder and grit before sizing.  After sizing I run the cases thru a vibratory case cleaner with walnut hulls with a small amount of NU Finish polish.

  7. In the late 70's I was fortunate enough to acquire a female Pit Bull that came from a kennel in Illinois that raised fighting stock.  We raised the dog inside and it was a very good pet.  When I got this pup there were 3 or 4 other Pit Bull dogs in town but in the next few years back yard breeders flooded the market with dogs.  Inbreeding is part of the problems today with the breed.  The kennel that raised the fighting dogs would kill any dog or pup that showed aggression toward a human.  It was not tolerated by the owners or handlers to allow the dogs to be aggressive toward other people.  This female we owned lived approximately 12 years and died with cancer.  She was the best pet I ever owned and was very loyal to her family.  The owners of PIt bulls and other breeds considered viscious must register the dogs in town now.  So sad..... :(

  8. I don't have any experience with the ProChrono digital but I am glad it works for you.  One of my friends bought a RCBS and we set it up along side the older Oehler 33.  The RCBS worked OK first trip but second trip not so much.  We were working up loads for AR15 and from that time on used the Oehler 33.  I would love to have the Oehler 35P but can't justify it as long as the 33 works.  My 33 has the Generation 3 skyscreens like the 35P only doesn't have the proof channel.  I learned a lot more about reloading after buying and using the chronograph when working up loads.

  9. i ended up just buying a whole new unit. cant remember now which one but its easier to use and set up. funny thing happened on my first time out with it. was checking some rounds through an AK everything working great then i pulled the trigger and got a double. second round hit the metal wire that holds the diffuser dead center. bent the crap out of it and pissed me off but still works fine. did a little more work on the fcg and got the doubling issue resolved for good.

    Is it an Oehler chronograph?

I haven't seen a 33 manual on line.  I scanned mine and would post if there was a place someone could direct me to.

I have a Oehler 33 instruction manual with the schematics on page 15 in pdf file that one of the customer service guys sent me via email.  I don't mind sharing if you send me a PM with email addy or you can call Oehler and ask for the manual.  They sent a brochure about the 35P... :)

My 33 is like the Timex.

I have added a jack for external power supply / battery pack.  Got tired of forgetting the 6 D cells and cleaning up the mess.  Actually jack / protection / regulator.  I can should post some pictures if someone likes the idea.

I am interested in seeing what you added to power the 33 and agree with your assessment that the Oehler 33 "will take a licking and keep on ticking"

  13. Cheapest place? Find someone who.lives near Sedalia MO and have them pick you up several pounds of factory seconds.

I found a guy on a Facebook reloading group a few months ago and bought 20 pounds of .224 bullets.

Or maybe do a group buy and someone make the trip. Each person is allowed 100 lbs of mixed bullets or 300 lbs same calibre If I am reading the rules correctly. There is a price list and number of bullets/lb on the factory outlet page. I have bought several different calibres and they are plenty good for average use. I was told when I toured the Sierra factory that some of the big name shooters practice with the bullets.
  14. I made the trip to Smyrna, Georgia yesterday (Sunday) and went to the Glock HQ this morning.  I was the first customer and drew a very nice younger armour.  I bought 2 sets of night sights for my pistols and took all my magazines.  The armour replaced several parts in my pistols and the springs and followers in the magazines that were in good shape and traded out the older magazines for new ones.  You stop at the gate/guard house and they secure the weapons making sure non of the pistols and magazines have ammo then send you approximately 150 yards or so to another building where the armour will be waiting.  As mentioned the hours are 8 AM to 4 PM.  The night sights are $57 and guaranteed for 15 years with no labor for install.  If the sights fail to illuminate they will replace the sights. It cost me $122.XX for 2 sets of night sights installed and the rest was FREE....

Security is tight at Glock but the guards and armour are very professional and make you feel welcome.  The armour took about 45 minutes to complete what I needed.  It was warm and sunny in Smyrna. Chattanooga was approximately 66 degrees when I passed thru around noon but the temperature dropped to 34 degrees at Paducah and there was ice on the electric lines and timber near Wickliffe.  I was fortunate that the roads weren't slick from Paducah home.

I would recommend using the service if you are in the area.  I was very pleased and felt it was worth the trip and expense since I spent Saturday night in Manchester, Tn. attending my great grandson's 1st birthday party.... :)
