  1. Metro now has video cameras on the Tasers so it is all well documented.
  2. The shot is used following the use of a Taser on subjects that are exhibiting signs of excited delirium. It is administered by Nashville Fire Dept. paramedics and not police officers.
  3. nsnate02 The gun can be at fault due to poor design or mechanical deficiencies. If a gun goes off by being bumped, for instance, while holstered then that is and AD. If you buddy shoots you in the foot as he was cleaning it because he forgot to check the chamber. that is a ND. operator error. Since you are coming to Metro, I thought you should be up to speed on your terminology. AD and ND are the same thing. ND is the more correct and current term. When someone fires a weapon and they did not mean to, you are being nice by calling it an accident. Don't be nice. The person was negligent and the discharge should be referenced as such. If the gun goes off without any operator imput, it is mechanically defective.
  4. Just carry what you shoot best and is IDPA legal. From a practical standpoint, Glocks are hard to beat due to the consistant trigger pull, cheap mags, and availability of parts and accessories. I would not worry about choosing between a mid-size, full size, or long slide. Shoot what you have or like. In terms of competitiveness, for most shooters there is not an appreciable difference between a Glock 19, 17, or 34. You are giving up some with the compacts and subcompacts. If you go to a major match you will see that most shooters are shooting Glocks, 1911s, or M&Ps. There is a reason for that. In the end, however, it is the shooter and not the gun. Find what fits you and learn to shoot it well.
  5. I will be there. Looking forward to it. It was a great match last year. What do you call whacked out?
  6. I have not attended any of their classes but I have trained under Ron Fielder and have trained with John Brown. They are the main instructors for PRI. They know their stuff. I know many people who have trained at PRI and have heard nothing but positive comments.
  7. Kemp, just learn to reload your shotgun faster. Ha.
  8. Not sure what department it was but unless it was some type of retention drill it was not Metro PD. They teach the isosceles. What you described sounds like the Center Axis Re-lock that is taught by Paul Castle. I thing Hendersonville PD prescribes to that method.
  9. .40 with 165 grain Ranger. Some units have 3rd gen. Glocks. Patrol is issued 2nd gen. Glocks. Personally owned weapons used to be allowed but that is no longer an option.
  10. What you have should work just fine. One hundred rounds of pistol ammo, 25 birdshot, and 6 slugs should be more than enough. If Robert(the match directory) does not post the round count on this site, check the Gallatin Gun Club site closer to March 8th and he may have the round count posted. Hope to see you there.

    Ruger Mini-14

In genreal, they are not as accurate or as durable as an AR. I like the balancing and overall handling of them. They do not have the line of sight/line of bore issues associated with an AR. Factory 20 round mags are also harder to come by and more expensive than an AR or AK. In short, they are a fine general purpose rifle but they are not a great fighting rifle.
  12. I would not worry about the cross dominance issue. Sometimes keeping both eyes open can be an issue. The only time I have seen it as an issue is when a shooter is doing almost as much long gun shooting as they are handgun. The issue is that all the right handed/right eyed long gun shooting can strengthen the right eye. It will not make it dominant but it can strengthen it. This may cause you to have to squint the right eye slightly when using the handgun with your left eye. For what it is worth, Dave Sevigny is cross dominant and he does not have any issues with shooting a handgun.
  13. Gallatin Gun Club is having it's next IDPA match on Jan. 12 and it will be a classifier match. For those new to IDPA, the classifier is low speed, straight forward, and a good starting point for new competitive shooters.
  14. You were probably being too nice in your original posting when you referred to them as gentlemen.
  15. The above excert has casinos referenced as government agencies. I do not know. I am not from New Jersey. If that is the case, then under H.R. 218 you can not carry there. H.R. 218 does not limit a state's authority to restrict the carrying of handguns on state/government property. It does not limit a private individual from not allowing a handgun on their property. It does, however, free LE officers from any state restrictions with regard to carrying on private property. In Tennessee this opens up two areas that have been previously restricted for off-duty LE. They are places that sell alcohol for on site consumption and private schools. There is much debate over H.R. 218. I have seen little debate as to where officers can carry under it. The primary debate is over the qualification of retired personnel. A new version, Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2007, has been introduced that addresses some short comings of the first version. Those short comings have nothing to do with where an officer can carry. They have to do with procedural aspects of implementing the law for retirees.
  16. In general, yes. But this law directly addresses the states and does not allow that. It is all in how the law is written.
  17. Hi Rabbi. I am the Metro officer that stops by sometimes and let you look at the Sig 552 on one visit. Mr. Harris is correct. Officers cannot carry, under TN law, in establishments that sell alcohol unless they are on duty. The law is clear in that regard. It is not ambiguous. We can, however, carry in such establishments under federal law (Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, commonly referred to as H.R. 218).
  18. I am glad you had a good time and I hope you and the one other new shooter I know was there come back. Maybe next time more TGO members can attend.
  19. You have all brought yourselves down with your less than mature babble. If anyone is interested in good force on force training in TN, I would recommend Tactical Response.
  20. Good review Titan Scout. It sounds like you learned form the scenarios and took away from them what was intended. That speaks volumes to the quality of instruction that is being provided by Tactical Response(TR). Force on force training can be an eye opener. I applaud you for taking the training and TR for providing it.
  21. Come on guys. You will not melt. Unless your guns do not work in the heat, everything will be ok.
  22. A drivers license query will return basic information such as name, address, date of birth, and license status. In addition to that there is a section titled Gun Carry Permit. It will either say none or valid. If the officer has an in car computer that information will be there for them to see. If dispatch has to run the drivers license, the dispatcher can either provide the carry permit information or the officer can ask for it. It has been that way for some time now. It is linked to the drivers license and not the vehicle license/registration.
  23. Always carry an extra mag. The exception is when I am carrying a revolver. Then I will have two speed strips. I am an optomistic optomist.
  24. Hello MidTNShooter. I am in Nashville and shoot at Gallitan Gun Club. I have been shooting an original M series Steyr since they first came out. When GSI sold everything to CDNN, I bought two more. There is a good chance I will get a new A-1 from CDNN.

    Steyr Handguns?

The Steyrs are great guns. I have three of the original M series in 9mm. One has aprox. 23,000 rounds through it. Nothing else out there fits my hand better. They are more prone to the occassional breakage than a Glock. The drop safety on the one with 23,000 rounds has broken twice. It broke at aprox. 10,000 rounds and was replaced. The replacement part broke at aprox. 23,000 rounds. The gun continued to function in both instances. Information on steyrforum.com has confirmed my opinion that the drop safety is prone to breakage between 10,000 and 13,000 rounds. Other than the drop safety breaking they have preformed flawlessly.
