  1. Goodbye, Combat Carl He was very funny in some guest appearances on Arrested Development.
  2. We had one like this circa 1979 or so. You'd roll the wheel on the left to select a row, then push a button to select that column.
  3. Saw one of these this summer at Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park. First time I've seen one in at least 10 years.
  4. RE: the OP's question . . . Being on the phone and someone else picking up another phone in the house and listening in. Being chained to a cord while on the phone. Not knowing who was calling when the phone rang. Riding in the back window ledge of a car and waving at the cops. Sleeping in the rear floorboard with the warm transmission tunnel as a pillow. Having to call MOVIE PHONE or get a newspaper to know what the theater was showing. A bookshelf full of Encyclopedias . . . and learning about the important stuff in the "S" book 1940s and 50s cars and trucks had them. I know the Chevy 3100 Advanced Design trucks had them.
  5. Mr. Fancy Pants with your dimmer switch. What about the starter plunger on the floor.
  6. Ohhh! I just remembered I have another one with a Colt frame and an RR slide. That frame was bubba-tized but the slide is in great shape. Time to swaparoo the slides and get a matching RR and a full Bubba that I can use and abuse w/o fear of diminishing any value. Perfect!
  7. For $200, that's almost like the Mosins we could find at shops & shows for $80 each. Get a whole crate and plan to arm up your whole block if the time comes.
  8. I didn't forget....just been busy. Mine's been waiting on me since last Tuesday but just managed to get it home today. Service Grade 1945 Remington Rand frame with a government replacement slide from Numax Electronics. Apparently those are well hardened slides, so I plan to shoot the snot out of it. Markings indicate rearsenaled at Fort Lewis - Mount Rainier Ordinance Depot. I'll send off a FOIA request and see what the Army can tell me about it. I haven't disassembled it yet so I don't know what markings I may find on the barrel or other bits. Anyway . . . here's the porn you all want.
  9. Fine by me, as long as the enforcing agency doesn't get a taste.
  10. I like it except this. I HATE policing for profit. It goes against everything good and decent about our law enforcement agencies. It sounds like an incentive to do the job better, but in the end it feeds corruption and budget shenanigans. Funds collected should go just about ANYWHERE except law enforcement. I'd rather they go to PBS & NPR than law enforcement.
  11. About the only real "plan" I have is how to get home from work, the most likely scenario for me to get caught away from home should something go bad fast. I have to get across the Cumberland River and there are only so many crossing points, so knowing what those are is important to me.
  12. The question is always how much self-reliance are you willing to buy and how much hassle are you willing to put up with? Or said another way . . . how nutty do you want to look to the normies? As for One Second After, the sequel was OK. The 3rd one was "meh" at best, IMO. None of them are outstanding examples of literature, but they provide a plausible, if not likely, sequence of events following a societal collapse. Apparently there's now a 4th one (Five Years After). I'll probably read it just because. They were all better than his book Pillar To The Sky. Now THAT's a slog to get through.
  13. The problem with that analogy is that a fire extinguisher only helps with a small fire before it gets big. It won't save your house if a wildfire comes blazing through. So the real question everyone has to ask is what level of fire protection are you willing and able to implement and maintain? A reasonable person might have multiple extinguishers on hand. A person might step it up a bit and be sure to have a written fire escape plan with the family and escape ladders by every upstairs bedroom window. Next maybe add a fire suppression blanket by the grill and the stove. Then what? Clear all trees and shrubs within 50 yards of the home? Clear all vegetation including grass? Install a metal roof? Replace exteriro siding with cement board? Add an exterior and interior sprinkler system plumbed from a well and powered by a battery wall and backup gas generator? Bulldoze up high berms around the home 100 yards out? Or a person could raze the current home and build an underground bunker made of reinforced concrete and steel. It's a spectrum that starts with unprepared and ends in over prepared . . . unless the event happens then it looks smart. It's the same for disaster preparedness. Starting with a few supplies and ending in that same underground concrete and steel bunker. At some point a person can be so concerned with surviving what might happen that they forget to live in the now and enjoy life. Each of us has to find the balance that's right for us given real-world constraints like time, money, location, family, and more.

I'm the opposite. Long legs. Makes clutching a challenge (all ankle work) and I don't think I could do Auto-X racing, but I fit fine.

    I'm 6'4", so . . . .

Same here . . . the clean Jeep Wrangler stayed in the garage and I drove the already-dirty CX-5.

Hello, fellow Mazda-nerd! Mazda Tribute, CX-5, and a Miata in my current lineup. I've had a 323, two 626s, and a Mazda3 hatch. The Miata is a garage queen, but I can't say I wasn't tempted to put the hardtop on and cut some donuts in the cul-de-sac last week
  19. Good choice. Add some Yaktrax and you'll be good for ice too. Take them off when you don't need the extra grip.

+1 to those. Yaktrax is another popular brand. They use coils or chains & cables, depending on how serious you want to get. https://www.amazon.com/stores/Yaktrax/page/6A1DA552-1ACD-4668-93BD-1C24EEE18432
  21. I have at least 5 shops closer to home or work and I still go to GGS when I need a local shop. I've never had a bad experience, never been ignored, and never made to feel like they're doing me a favor by simply existing. I can't say that about several others in the area. They always make sure I get what I need. I prefer to give my business to a shop that appreciates it, and they're one of the best around. Same. I need some fresh carry ammo. I'll hopefully find what I need in stock there.

Nashville Channel 17 was interviewing a couple of younger guys in the West Nashville area (around Charlotte at 35th if you know those hills up to the tall & skinnies). One of them said something like "we're from the northeast so we know how to drive on snow but this is all ice. We can't get out of our driveway." and I'm like . . . "yup".
  23. The bad weather in Memphis slowed down FedEx so my Friday update from CMP is that my pistol hasn't shipped yet. I'm expecting it in my hands sometime later this week. Pics will follow! And a big shout out to Phillip at Goodlettsville Gun Shop for getting on the horn with the CMP rep to get the FFL stuff sorted. As always, first class service.
