  1. Ah, Figured it out - screws through the bottom of the slide hold the rear sight in. I'll pass, but good luck with the sale.
  2. I'm trying to figure out how the rear sight mounts. Is it integrated into the optic plate somehow, and if you install an optic you lose the rear sight?
  3. Welcome! localish range options - prentice cooper WMA (permit required through TWRA, can get from website, can buy day or whole year), dead zero (up towards Fall Creek Falls) are the first two that come to mind. Also Mountain Top Gun and Archery Inc around Cagle Mountain, but I'd call them to make sure they will be open - not sure how consistent their hours are.
  4. ever get down anywhere near Chattanooga?
  5. my apologies if I missed it above.... What's the cost and for how many rounds on the 12 gauge low recoil?
  6. You may have a bad battery - they can show a reasonable voltage (60-80% charged as you put it) at rest, then as soon as you put any load on them at all, the battery falls on it's face and voltage drops to nearly zero.
  7. I've had a Chevy bolt loaner - I was impressed with it. For local trips where range isn't a concern, I think it could make a lot of sense. I've also had a ride in a friend's Tesla Model S Plaid. 0-60 in less than 2 seconds. Most G force I've ever felt (moreso even than sport bikes). Most expensive car I've ever ridden in too. Super fun. Completely absurd price. From an environmental perspective, I've got a lot of question about the lifecycle (ie disposal) cost and process for the batteries for the hybrids and electric cars. From a frugal old guy perspective, I've considered buying a uses Nissan Leaf for <10K for local trips and getting rid of 85% of my fuel bill. (The electricity isn't free, but it's a lot cheaper than paying several $/gallon of gasoline.)
  8. In Chattanooga I think my FFL is 25$ transfer fee + $10 for background check
  9. Most reasonable campground prices I know of in the Chattanooga area are probably Chester Frost Park, but it's up in Hixson a bit north of Chattanooga proper. I'm about 15 minutes from downtown Chattanooga on a nice quiet street in a nice boring neighborhood. I've got a 30' parking pad for our camper that's empty right now since we winter ours in a friend's barn. If you need to park here you're welcome to it, just send me a PM.
  10. You may already now, but in case you don't spyderco will resharpen their knives for free. ($5 for return shipping for up to 4 knives). I'm glad they offer it, but I've never felt the need to use it since all my spydercos were serrated up till recently, and they never seem to dull.
  11. I have an old spyderco endura that suffered a similar "durability test" and emerged with a similar broken blade tip to show for it. A few minutes on the bench grinder (light passes to not overheat the blade), and I know have a Spyderco Rescue profie. (Just round it over with a file, no need to spend $25)
  12. You're overthinking it  :)   If you have fired a gun before, ever, you'll be far ahead of several of the people that were in my class.   The husband and wife sitting next to me (nice older couple) both had nice, brand new, Ruger LCR revolvers - but neither had a clue how to open the cylinder on them. And they passed. And some places will let you take it again for free if you fail, which is not an offer they would be able to afford to extend if many people took them up on it.   Just focus on listening during the talking portion, shooting safely and calmly during the firing range portion, and you'll do fine
  13. Sadly your hopes are in vein. We ate lunch there today b/c we had already planned to meet friends there, and there was a bright shinny new sticker next to the door handle. Because it's really safer for everyone if my gun is in the car all by its lonesome waiting to be stolen by some thug Dining choices in that area of town are getting a bit skinny if you are carrying.
  14. I just searched a couple cities where I have friends that I know have had permits for a long time, and in both places it only returned 2 entries with that last name (these were common last names in big cities). It did not return my friends I was looking for. A long time ago when I found about about the database I searched it to verify accuracy using several of my friends.... after about the 5th search, it told me something along the lines of "you are being nosy and we don't have this posted for people to use it for such purposes". So then exactly for what purpose did they post it ?? :screwy:
