  1. I like Wamp, and would not have a problem voting for him even though he completely sucked on TARP. However, I believe Ramsey is the better candidate. In regards to Barrett and Dave Ramsey endorsing Wamp, who cares? Personally, I think Dave Ramsey is nothing more than an entertainer who makes millions by giving people commonsense advice on how to handle money. It isn't all that complex. If you continually spend more than you make, you will go broke. If you spend less than you make, then you will save. I may be a little too harsh on Dave, but if he is the principled fiscal conservative as he portrays himself, then I don't see how he can openly endorse Wamp for governor without speaking about his disagreement with Wamp on TARP. Even if he is trying to make sure Haslam doesn't get the nomination, I believe people would be more understanding and receptive with honesty. If Dave said, "I really like Ron Ramsey. He would be my primary choice for governor. However, due to the unique situation of the mayor of Knoxville trying to buy his way to the nomination and Ron Ramsey's lack of name recoginition, I will be endorsing Wamp for governor. Even though I was in disagreement with Wamp's decision on TARP, he has been a consistent conservative for 16 years while in Washington." Maybe I'm just a little weird, but hearing a message like that (or something similiar) would speak volumes to me. It says two things. The situation is dire, and Haslam is really that bad. Personally, I don't think there are any political calculations or strategy going on here. I think they are friends, and that is why they are endorsing Wamp. If I am wrong and there is a political calculation here, I am wondering how far the the time table needs to be slid back when trying to get the best candidate the nomination. I always thought that was the purpose of the primary.
  2. I haved lived in Chattanooga my entire life and I have never been to the Aquarium. As far as Ruby Falls and rest, well, I haven't been there since I was a little kid.
  3. Pretty good shooting there. You can put a caption over the target for when you show her would be dates, "My daughter has a gun, and knows how to use it."
  4. There are 3 currently on gun broker. Glock 19 9mm 2nd Gen : Semi-auto at GunBroker.com. 2nd Gen Glock 19 sale Trade : Semi-auto at GunBroker.com . Glock 19 G19 9mm 2nd Gen. Rare WT prefix : Semi-auto at GunBroker.com . While I'm not nice enough to buy you one, the least I can do is wish you a happy birthday, considering we share the same name and all.
  5. Very nice. Congratulations. I would love to try a Les Baer. Everyone I have talked to says they are the stuff. They have quite a few models I would love to have. Perhaps after I get out of recovery from my recent 1911 purchase, I will take a look at one. BTW, thanks for the link . I bookmarked them.
  6. Evening folks. I just back from the range a few hours ago, and I wanted to leave some feedback on my new Wilson CQB I picked up earlier this week. I shot 100 hundred rounds Thursday, 100 rounds Friday, 100 rounds Saturday, and 100 rounds of Blazer ammo today. It is the most reliable cheap ammo I have ever used. First off, the Wilson is absolutely amazing. The quality and craftsmanship is definitely top notch. The feel of the CQB is second to none, and the trigger is fantastic. I made some pretty tight groupings at 10 yards with an occasional anticipation thrown in (hate those, messes up my nice target). The CQB really stood out in rapid fire. Brought a smile to my face. Zero problems, makes me think of the recent post were someone was complaining about the relability of the 1911. Overall, it was definitely a good purchase. I wanted to make a comparison to one of my other 1911s (Kimber Tactical II Custom HD). I originally bought the Wilson to get something better than my Kimber. Everything about the Wilson is a little bit better, except on value. I am comparing a $2200 gun to a $1200 gun. While I am totally pleased with my purchase (its a keeper), and might consider buying another Wilson in the future, I would have to give a slight edge to the Kimber based solely on price vs. performance. Now, this may not be a fair comparison considering they are different calibers (.45 vs. 9), but I wanted to compare the Wilson to another new gun I got about a month ago, my Sig P226 X-Five L1. The price on both guns is about the same. The quality on both is about equal; they are top notch. The shooting ability goes to the Sig hands down. While the trigger on the Wilson is fantastic at 3.5 lbs, the Sig is just crazy awesome at 2 lbs. The Sig will make the average shooter look like they really know what they are doing. The downside with the Sig is overall functionality. While both are full 5 inches, the Sig is just plain huge. With a full magazine in the Sig, you might need to consider a steroid shot first. The first time (and probably the last) I carried it, I kept thinking I looked like one of those jackasses who wears their pants around their knees. Overall, I am very pleased with both guns. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a high-end shooter. For the budget conscious, I would look elsewhere. You can certainly find other manufacturers that are close in quality, but at a much better value.
  7. Well, as long as you aren't sleeping with it or doing anything kinky, you should be okay. Nice collection.
  8. It is quite amazing that The Daily Beast is sticking up for the Tea Party. Has hell froze over?
  9. Just my two cents. While Obama is certainly a socialist p.o.s. hell bent on drastically changing our society (for the worse), I do not think he is in the same league as Hitler and Lenin. I think whoever put up the billboard was wrong in the way they are trying to convey the danger present within socialism, and the people who took it down are wrong as well. They are stifling free speech. I guess I'm just getting tired of all the Hitler comparisons. Back when Bush was in office, all you heard from all the crackpot leftists was "Bush is Hitler. Bush is Hitler."
  10. My handgun calibers are: .22 lr .40 S&W 9mm Luger .45 acp 5.7x28mm I want to desert eagle in .50 ae just for the hell of it.
  11. Megyn Kelly is absolutely gorgeous. I agree with her arguments. However, she can go bats**t crazy at times if you disagree with her. I prefer Laura Ingraham's debating style to Kelly's.
  12. I'm feeling sort of embarassed. I did that when I first got my permit. I went in with my Five-Seven under my shirt and bought a couple of "24" dvds. I never knew this was a right of passage.

    I finally broke down

The last I heard is that the range will be open next week. I am really excited about it. Their hours will be great for me. I currently belong to Carl's range as well as Carter's. I really like Carl, but due to his hours of operation, I can only use the range on Saturdays after his HCP class. I use Carter's during the week. I like everyone at Carter's, but it is out of my way and it is on 58 Hwy (traffic sucks). Shooter's Depot is right on my way home, and the people are very nice.
  14. Amen. I am the same way. The 1911 fills great in my hands. Maybe 1911 owners know something others don't.
  15. Well, I don't really know about that. As I have mentioned, as well as others, I haven't had the first problem with my Kimbers. Kimber makes nice 1911s, they are mass produced, and they are less than several thousands of dollars. I paid a little over a $1000 for my Tactical II Custom HD. The Custom II model can be had for around $700. In regards to price vs. reliability comparison, what does it matter?
  16. Just out of curiousity, what is the Wally-world walk?
  17. I could be wrong, but I hate posts like that at times. 1911 Reliability, What Does It Really Mean? - 10-8 Forums His post was incomplete. What was the model? Who was the manufacturer? What was the experience level of the shooter? These are some questions that I would liked to know the answer to before dumping on 1911s in general. I don't see how posts like those can do much except create a flame war. I own quite a few handguns, and some of them are 1911s. I have had zero problems out of my 1911s. I have shot thousands of rounds through my Kimber Tactical II HD with zero problems using el cheapo Blazer ammo. I can't comment on my Wilson CQB since I just got it yesterday, but we will see. The problem with the whole thing is that you could get thousands of people come on and refute his post based upon their experience, and the same can be said of people who share his viewpoint. This same type of argument can be made on other models. I know people who dump on Glocks, Sigs, H&Ks, etc... I know people who swear by them (I own and love all three). I guess my bottom line is I buy what I like, and what has worked well for me. If someone doesn't like it, that is okay. If someone thinks I was crazy for paying such a high price for a custom 1911, that is okay too. It is what I wanted, and I am fine with it. In regards to the 1911 platform, I find it hard to believe that so many gun owners and manufacturers can be wrong on the reliability of a design that is almost 100 years old.
  18. Well, I don't know if understanding those factors by themselves will help you shoot more accurately, but I can tell you what I have learned. When I first got into handguns, I found a good instructor to teach me how to shoot and do it well. While private or group instruction isn't necessary at all, it does help a lot. The first thing I was taught to improve my accuracy was to slow down. I was taught to load up my mag with 5 rounds and my goal was to put 5 shots in the same hole at around 3 - 5 yards, and this was done very slow. I still practice this every week, although the distance is much greater. I remember having an enormous headache after my first lesson from concentrating so hard. In addition to slowing down, my grip, and finger position on the trigger, stance, and all the other stuff was corrected, if needed, as well. After learning to shoot extremely tight groups at that distance the target was moved back and/or the speed was increased. Once I was taught how to properly shoot, it was just up to me to put in the range time. As it is with pretty much anything, you can build something a lot better on top of a proper foundation. In regards to trigger pull, I have found the lighter the pull the easier it is to make tight groups. I got a Sig P226 X-Five L1 about 3 weeks ago. It has around a 2 lb trigger pull. It is by far the most accurate handgun I have ever owned or shot. You can do some crazy groupings with it. If you put it in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing, which certainly isn't me, it is amazing.
  19. I bought a Ruger Mark III Hunter this year for the same reason you stated, cheap ammo costs. A lot of people have mentioned the difficulty in the takedown of the Mark III. They are correct. It took me about 5 minutes on my first disassembly, and about 30 minutes to figure out how to reassemble it. However, once you do it a couple of times, it is a piece of cake. You can do it in a matter of seconds. I bought a Volquartsen Accurizing kit for my Mark III. Really nice, but a pain to install the first time. That is one of the nice things about the Mark II and IIIs, there are bunch of custom parts out there for them. While I really like my Ruger, if I could do it over, I would have went with the S&W Model 41. I got to shoot one of those and they are sweet, but expensive.
  20. You've got that right. My Kimber Tactical II HD has an extended mag well. You can almost forget about putting in mags without a bumper in any reasonable time.
  21. I have always liked Wamp, but when he voted for TARP, it killed me. I remember calling his office thanking him for voting against TARP (the first go around) and asking him to stand strong and vote against it the second time. About 4 hours hours after phoning him, I saw him on TV saying, "..oh, we gotta have this..." The whole sky is falling type stuff. My vote will be going to Ramsey in the primary. If Ramsey loses, then I could vote for Wamp (assuming he wins). I do not want to vote for Haslam, but I will if I'm forced to.
  22. This is my new 1911 I picked up today from The Shooter's Depot. I got a Wilson CQB. I am excited about taking it to the range this week. In regards to The Shooter's Depot, those guys are great. I get along well with Carl at Sportsman's and Ray at Carter's, but those guys at Shooter's are something else. Extremely nice people, and good prices too. After what they charged me on the transfer, they will get all my business.
  23. I finally broke down and decided to get a new toy. I have used a Kimber Tactical HD for quite a while, and I have really liked it. It has been a very reliable gun. However, I have been itching for quite a while to get something just a little bit better. Upon finally deciding to break down and buy something, I went by Hero Gear (very nice folks) last Saturday looking for a new 1911. They didn't have what I wanted so I went by The Outpost Armory (nice folks too) on Sunday. They had what I was looking for, but not the model I wanted. Determined to get something, I started shopping online Sunday and found what I wanted from Bud's Gun Shop. After talking it over while I was sleeping, I decided to buy it on Monday. I just picked it up from The Shooter's Depot today. I got a Wilson CQB. It feels great, and I can't wait to give it a run. The only downside to this whole adventure was I bought a Sig P226 X-Five L1 about three weeks ago on top of about 5,000 rounds of practice ammo. I am loving it, but my bank account is crying uncle. Please forgive the crude pics. I don't own a nice digital camera, and right now, I can't afford one.
  24. Have you ever considered a compact 1911? I am currently carrying a Kimber Ultra Raptor II. Not very heavy (25 ounces with a empty mag), but it does pack a kick. I used to carry my five seven, which I love. It is extremely light and holds 20 rounds. Gives me 19 chances to miss. The only problem I had was the size. I have a couple of holsters for it, but the only one I felt comfortable with was a paddle holster. The iwb with a shirt tucker just wasn't for me.
