  1. I follow the exact opposite school of thought.  The folks that should get money are the ones who *cant* work, really and truly.  Those who are so handicapped they cannot do even menial tasks --- extreme paralysis,  mentally unable (and not talking stressed out or a bit slow here, talking either full on batcrap crazy or vegatative capacity), terminally ill, extremely old, and so on.  People that can work should not need a constant infusion of cash from the govt for their entire careers --- a brief interest free loan would satisfy the bulk of those who need help but have a job and are trying.

You are correct, and that is a biblical viewpoint as well.  If churches and charities will not fill that role, I have no problem with my tax dollars doing it.

  2. I agree with him 100%; raising the debt ceiling DOES NOT increase the debt.

Yes and no.  From an academic perspective, raising the debt ceiling does not increase the debt.  However, coming back to the real world, can anyone point out to me when we raised the debt ceiling and didn't actually increase our debt?  I don't know that it has happened.  Therefore, I believe the definition of debt ceiling, in relation to our government financing, should be properly defined as the amount of money the government can borrow to incur more debt.

  3. If I'm around people; it's a courtesy thing.

Okay.  I am the same way.  I thought maybe you were just weird for a moment.

I am a rabid anti-farter when you are with company, especially when you are eating.  I actually threatened to fire a guy at work over farting.  One of our plant workers was talking to me in my office while I was eating, and he let out this loud and smelly fart.  He smiled and started laughing about it.  I stopped eating and informed him that if he ever did that in my presence again while I was eating, he was history.

  4. This is one man thing I haven't embraced. I'm not kidding, I walk outside to fart. Perhaps it is from years of being around dudes who are proud to shared their fecal molecules with everyone else in such a close proximity. I'm a combination of traumatized and self aware to the point I won't let one go unless I'm outside and downwind to mitigate the fall out zone. I just don't get it; and I come from a family that has farting contests.

Please clarify, you walk outside to fart when you are alone, or just with company?  If I am with company, even if it is just one person, I won't pass gas (same thing for blowing your nose).  If I am by myself, I don't hold back.

  5. According to our President, raising the debt ceiling does not mean we are increasing our debt.

Now, this debt ceiling -- I just want to remind people in case you haven't been keeping up -- raising the debt ceiling, which has been done over a hundred times, does not increase our debt; it does not somehow promote profligacy.  All it does is it says you got to pay the bills that you've already racked up, Congress.  It's a basic function of making sure that the full faith and credit of the United States is preserved.

Geeze that guy is an a$$.  Oh well, I guess there are people out there stupid enough to believe what he is saying.

  6. I just don't get it. How many of you have read the "Obamacare" bill, and how many of you are knee-jerking based off of what Fox "News" and others tells you? Become self informed and stop depending on others to tell you how to think.

In my opinion, and I've read the entire bill myself, the healthcare act lowers cost of service and the federal deficit both over the next 6 years while upgrading the US to the same standard of care as the rest of the civilized world. The only other thing I could ask of it is to eliminate federal subsidizing of lazy people who can't bother to look beyond media hype and their own pocketbooks. But we all know that will never happen. Mostly because it's in the current government's best interest to support ignorance rather than intelligence and society seems happy to support that ideal.

Wow.  I would have never thought that Kathleen Sebelius would be a member of TGO.

  7. With a congress approval rate around 10 percent, a gov shut down might improve their rating in the polls. It would make some people happy and couldn't possible make many more people unhappy with congress. You can't get to a 9 out of 10 disapproval without most liberals already mad at em (along with most conservatives).

You may be onto something Lester.  A government shutdown would indeed please both parties.  Partisan Democrats want a shutdown so they can blame Republicans for everything, whereas Tea Party folks want a shutdown in the hopes that Obamacare will be defunded.  Shut it down and everybody wins.

  8. I am not sure, but I grew up watching Mr. Rogers.  When I was going through my rebellious teenage years, I always hated being called Mr. Rogers.  Now, I snicker when I hear it, but it doesn't bother me.  Actually, I wish had more of a demeanor like he did.

Anyway, I like the avatar.  It is applicable to me, so it is worth keeping.  It might even remind me to watch my tongue (fingers) and mind my manners.

  9.

Oh no my friend, I've been downing them 2-3 at a time. After the 3rd day your colon is so clean the gas doesn't even register on the
    stink-o-meter.

Are you saying that your a$$ is now so clean that when you fart it is actually a whistle?  :)

  10. Why is a person carrying a gun peacefully different than a cop carrying a gun?

I see cops all the time at various places I visit.  I have yet to see one walk in with an AR or shotgun in their hands.  I think there is a world of difference between open carrying a handgun on your waist versus a long gun.

  11.

Ya know, I guess I am guilty of trying to straddle the fence on issues like these.  I always tried to sympathize with the viewpoint of the gun-rights activist.  I have never bad-mouthed that Kwik fellow, and I didn't say anything negative about the guys down in TX who recently open-carried at the Starbucks.  After reading the article and several comments in this thread, I have come to the conclusion that I was wrong.  I should have been criticizing those who have been stirring up controversy.

After viewing those pictures, I can honestly see how everyday common folk would be concerned or frightened.  Walking into a Starbucks with a pump shotgun, like the guy in the picture is total jackassery.  I cannot, for the life of me, understand what purpose that serves outside of some sort of **** measuring contest.  To be honest with you, if I was in Starbucks, which will never happen, and I saw a person walk in with a shotgun like that, I would immediately switch to open carry only because I would be worried about quick access to my gun in case it was someone I had to shoot.

  12. I never knew TGO had so many Starbucks patrons.  This might rile some feathers, but my view is that if you don't frequent Starbucks then this really shouldn't be an issue for you.  In my case, I have never been to a Starbucks, and I seriously doubt I will ever go to one.  Therefore, whatever policy they choose really doesn't affect me.

  13. Government sponsored monopoly and fiber optic?  Wow!  This is just too good when you reconcile that with stuff like PRISM.  I bet they don't even have to go to court.  They just build the splitter going to the NSA right into the system...

Not that you're apparently any better off with your local independent ISP.  The government has clearly shown that they can get that data as well even without the ISP's knowledge.

Well, you know what they say.  If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry about.  ;)

  14. You could look at it this way.  If the activist crowd becomes so upset with Starbucks then they are "free" to open their own coffee shop where like-minded individuals can lounge around in their tactical gear and openly display their largest rifles to the community at large.  I would bet that they would have very few customers outside of that activist base, and they would be bankrupt within 3 months.
