On a national level they may still change carry in Federal Parks to follow state law for the state the park is in. But since TN has a law against park carry you still couldn't carry in a Federal Park in TN. Oh and it's neither.....it's a readily available ammunition storage device...lol -
Friendship would have nothing to do with it. I interact with people all the time that are neither friends or enemies. If he had a warrant or PC I'd let him, if not I wouldn't. I completely agree...and if we ever meet, first round is on me. TDR you were screwed, plain and simple. Sometimes it's hard to dumb things down enough for small town judges to understand. Maybe next time a signature on the paper from the person who printed out for you or something. Of course another way to look at it, is this was just paying for one of those times you weren't caught. I sort of figure things even out in the end. I don't get mad when a coke machine takes my money because I have go free cokes or for less than the stated price. Yin-Yang

Agree! -
I don't lump all LEOs together. I try not assume any member of any group is the same as all the rest.

Congrats... A couple of notes.. The state legislature has adjourned for this year....so no more laws being voted on peirod this year. Park and restaraunt (where alcohol is served) carry did not pass. Also...HCP in TN, not CCW. -
I really don't feel talking about bad experiences that someone has had or not allowing a search when you don't have to is cop bashing.

OC might get a soccer mom to call someone and complain...but IMO OC even mass amounts of OC is not really a threat to getting the law changed. -
I know it's not all cops, but unfortunatley it only takes a few before some have a bad view and even more are catuious. I have brother and sister-in-law that are officers I have worked as a deputy and before that rode along a lot as reserve deputy. So I think I have at least a little bit of an idea of what's like in the officers shoes. I rode with my brother one time...he asked a couple of gals about searching their car when they were at an apartment complex and asked to leave. He had no real reason to, they refused and left, no problem. But in the past I have rode with officers that would have went off at a refusal to search. I also would have to say in my experience 99% is just a little high.

I agree strict carry laws in states that dont' even allow carry now would be an improvment. I aslo agree most states aren't likely to change their current laws based on federal regulations. I'm just saying there could be slight chance some could, but I think that chance is so small as to make the bill worth supporting.

Not sure why the TDOT folks that are cutting grass on the highway, filling pot holes, etc...really need to be LE personnel. As of now CVE is just a division of the THP, CVE officers are troopers, they just deal with commercial vehicles. ...and I'm still of the opinion truck drivers can carry (as far as the law is concerned.)
-
Overall I like the bill. The only thing that worries me is if the federal goverment comes up with some sort of default laws because of states like NY, CA or more IL and WI that have no carry permits as it is, so therefore no law relating to where and how to carry. Granted that if these default laws only applied to places like WI and IL...any carry would still be better than none and it shouldn't be a problem. Just slightly worried that some states could see the federal regs as a standard to go by.

Maybe in your opinion it is probably cause, but not legally. And everyone has the right to refuse him. The also have the right not to if they choose to let him.
-
Richard...I think you are really off on a few things. To me you did imply that those that have not served have no say so in how their right are used or abused. It is not an officers job to search a vehicle that he is no probable cause to think anything illegal is in.

Be careful about carry without a permit...it's illegal, even in your car, unless it is unloaded. What do you say when you approach someone that is OCing? Do you offer to let them conceal or do they have to take it back outside? Why not just let them OC? Oh..and I like your sig line (I have the clip of that quote on my MySpace page) -

Glad you finally got through to someone.... ...and good to see you on here as well.

...and not really wanting to start the whole debate over again (see this & this thread), but this is exactly one of the reasons many choose not to inform an officer they are armed.

That is correct 39-17-1305 prohibits carry where alcohol is served for onsite consumption and does not require the establishment to post a sign. Other places that are off-limits by law like Schools (39-17-1309) and Public parks, playgrounds, civic centers and other public recreations buildings and grounds* (39-17-1311) are required to post signs within the law that says they are off-limits. *Can exempt themselves from having to post a sign

Lots of times you can look at a restaurants website and see if the serve alcohol. Both Sweenys and Red Robins have websites and you can see that they serve alcohol from both of them. But even if a place doesn't have it's own website you can find their phone number and call. If you're *67 blocks your number from being shown in a caller id.

It probably comes from a majority of people lacking common courtesy and respect of others. Many people would just sit in the middle of the waiting area and have a loud conversation, distracting those trying to do business or take test without regards to how it may affect others. Most of the places that I've seen that have "banned" cell phones have actually just requested you put them on silent or vibrate and conduct any conversations outside or privately. Seems reasonable to me.

When somebody finally concedes they were wrong and the other guy was right...will you please PM me so I won't have to keep checking the thread everyday to see if there is a winner yet.
