  1. I've had a Gen4 G19 since Oct '10 with probably close to 2,500 rounds through with no problems. I did swap out recoil springs as part of Glock's trade program about a year ago.
  2. Pretty obvious my once every 6 months appearance isn't gonna cut it.....
  3. I was in the same class and can't say enough good things about the class. Looking forward to other opportunities (and getting some classes to middle TN).
  4. I've taken a few modern defensive pistol classes and have some (limited) experience in IDPA. Class was most definitely worth the time, travel, and money. Vital skills, observation techniques, and even some gun-in-holster defensive applications. Can't recommend the class enough. Randy was an excellent instructor who matched the class to the students' needs. If you ever have a chance to attend this class, it is a very worthwhile opportunity.
  5. Although the classes in Chattanooga are $225, they are also about 8 hours of instructors who do the classes nationally (I think). That comes out to $28.13 per hour. Far less than than what you'd pay for private instruction at a local range (avg $60/hr) with high quality instruction (from what I've read). As someone else mentioned, you get what you pay for.
  6. I also recommend the class. As a new shooter to IDPA last year, it helped me to get a better understanding of the rules, scoring, etc. Now...if I could just learn to shoot.
  7. http://dailycaller.com/2012/02/24/federal-judge-severely-limits-second-amendment-rights/ Excerpt: In other words, despite the victories in the Supreme Court, the battle for Second Amendment rights in America is far from over. There is perhaps no better reminder of this unfortunate state of affairs than a recent ruling by U.S. District Judge Sue Myerscough, an appointee of President Barack Obama. Two pro-Second Amendment groups — the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and Illinois Carry — filed a lawsuit last May challenging the ban on carrying concealed guns in the Land of Lincoln, which is the only state with a complete ban on the books. The common-sense basis for the lawsuit is that Illinois’ ban on concealed carry deprives citizens of the fundamental right of self-defense, simply because they are in public. While Judge Myerscough conceded the Second Amendment protects a “general right to carry guns that include a right to carry operable guns in public,†she tossed out the lawsuit, claiming that the “Supreme Court has not recognized a right to bear firearms outside the home.†As absurd as this federal judge’s ruling appears on the surface, it unfortunately finds some basis in the inchoate opinion issued four years ago by the nation’s high court in Heller. While the five-member majority in that case importantly recognized the fundamental right of an individual to keep and bear arms — and in so finding, invalidated the District’s restrictive gun control ordinance — the actual language of the opinion has been interpreted now to recognize the right to possess a firearm only inside one’s home.
  8. Oak Ridge (ORSA IDPA) website-http://www.orsaidpa.com/ You can find all the IDPA clubs at: http://www.idpa.com/clublist.asp?pick=TN You might also try to see when the group in Sale Creek shoots; looks like an hour from you. It looks like they shoot IDPA on the 4th Saturday of each month. http://www.doddtraining.com/
  9. Last year's event was great. This is a fantastic match for the new shooter while still being a challenge to the more experienced shooters as well. All you need is a Glock pistol to enter. There are multiple groups/categories, prizes for placing, random prizes, and a great chance to see some Glock competitors. Last year there were groups from as far away as Florida. If you've been to the MCTS Intro to IDPA match or any others, this is a great event to attend.
  10. Considering I haven't been to MCTS in a LONG time, was very good to be back out despite the poor performance; although I think I was able to keep a classification (miracles do exist). Had fun and looking to not be gone for so long.
  11. After an extended time away, I'm looking very forward to getting back to the range. The sad part is, I probably NEED an intro match to get back into the groove.
  12. The GSSF matches are designed for the person who "just bought their Glock last week" and this is the first competition they've ever been in (paraphrased from GSSF). You don't even need a holster as all stages start from a low-ready position. You should have at least three magazines (four if possible) so as not to hold up other competitors reloading during your string/stage. G34 is only available in the Amateur/Master Division and Master Unlimited Division. Amateur Civilian, Amateur Guardian are typical models (i.e. not "Competition"). Obviously the G34 doesn't fit in the subcompact and heavy metal class. Music City Tactical Shooters in Dickson hosted a successful GSSF match last May and is scheduled to have another 5/19/2012. www.mctsclub.com, Upcoming Matches By registering, you also have the chance to win some nice random drawing prizes such as memberships in GSSF, magazines for your pistol, Glock field knives, and more. There are also cash awards, even if you don't place in your division.

  18. Music City Tactical Shooters (MCTS) will be hosting an IDPA Classifier Match in Dickson, TN on Saturday July 2nd. View/download the IDPA Classifier Course of Fire (.PDF, 7.9kb) View/download the Classifier Stage Setup (.PDF, 82.5kb) The Classifier match is open to anyone but only current IDPA members will receive a classification. "The IDPA Classifier is a "standard test" used to classify shooters based on their current skills so that they can compete with other shooters at a similar skill level. Therefore, no cover garment is required when shooting the Classifier. In fact, to ensure that your score is valid for comparison against other shooters' scores, no cover garments are allowed. Because most IDPA matches comprise unique and original defensive scenarios, the Classifier is the only completely-standard IDPA match that can be used to classify shooters." (www.ccidpa.org) Visit the MCTS web site for more information and directions to the range in Dickson, TN.
