  1. Thanks y'all- there is a lot of food for thought here. I appreciate the time you took to offer your recommendations. I'll keep you posted.
  2. I am a psychologist. I work with mentally ill people. I cannot always determine who I work with.   One of my colleagues was shot in the face by an angry customer (adverse child custody decision in a divorce). I want to protect myself in the event that someone comes after me. I doubt it will ever happen, but hey... One never knows.   I am hoping some of y'all can help me brainstorm some ideas for office defense.    I sit in a nice recliner when I work, My client is about 3 feet away. I am wanting to have some sort of concealed way to access a handgun instantly from my recliner. In my experience, carrying on the body slows weapon accessibility while seated. I might be wrong, but I think there are faster ways to protect oneself in an office.   Thoughts? Experience? Ingenious ideas?   BTW, I am glad to be back here on this board. I have not posted on TGO for a few years. Life happens.
  3. Hey TGO David/Tungsten--- What about those Tactical Fruit Loops? Are they any good?
  4. If there is no psych test for running for TN political office or for obtaining a TN driver's license, there should be no psych test for the HCP. Obviously there are a lot of crazy politicians and crazy drivers, so the HCP should be no exception. Equal rights. But cosmetologists and lawyers- now those people need to take a psych test. You have to be crazy to want to be be a cosmetologist or a lawyer; therefore only legally crazy people should be granted a cosmetology license or a law license. So far in TN I think the system is working in that regard. I have never met a sane lawyer or cosmetologist. (I do not mean to demean TN cosmetologists, but this is just how it is, IMHO) Now, about that other matter: Bigfoot is, of course, (duh!) Real- those who claim otherwise are obviously mentally ill and should be denied a TN HCP. Trust me, I know. Bigfoot speaks to Me Personally. But you have to be chosen by Him to receive His divine messages. But you can be Chosen for a small donation. How? If you Truly Believe, I have a convenient PrayPal account that will allow you to donate in order to be personally blessed by our one and only True Bigfoot Prophet. To be Blessed, you simply donate to the First True Church of the Evangelical Bigfoot Gospel Holy Disciple Anointed Praypal Fellowship Brotherhood Congregation... Or something like that. Crazy.
  5. I live in Memphis, so an AK folder in a sneaky bag
  6. My daughter (24 years old) was called today by Range USA and asked to be one of several women interviewed by Fox 13 tomorrow morning at 7 am. They are doing a story on what it is like for women to get their permits through the Range USA women-only class. FYI- My daughter liked the Range USA class a lot and she was glad to be in an all-female class. She was a competitive varsity athlete at UT-Knoxville and she is straight, so she would hang out off the field with lots of the male jocks at UT. She said she was glad not to have a 'bunch of male egos" to deal with during the HCP class. Gosh- I wonder what she meant by that 'male ego' comment? She rolled her eyes and looked at me sarcastically when she said it.... Being a night owl, she's not thrilled about the 7 am interview time, but she is pretty excited. I hope it turns out ok and hope it isn't some rabid anti-2A trying to prove a point. I don't think the local Fox 13 folks have been too bad regarding self defense issues. And it just ain't right to pick on girls, especially mine! We'll see. Tune in if you can, but I don't really know when they plan to air it. Hope they post it to the web. I gotta buy that girl a decent handgun.
  7. I use a modular pack system - I like bags. Must've been a cross-dresser in a past life. Not this life, though, except perhaps when I wear my lycra bike shorts (on my bicycle, of course, not to the bars) I do get some odd comments from the rodeo crowd in chaps and those gay dudes cruising around in their big pickup trucks. Or is it the gay dudes who are wearing the chaps and the rodeo guys who are in the trucks? I get them so confused... They all have those colored handkerchiefs, you know. Hard to tell 'em apart. Anyway, back to go bags- At this point my wife and I each use 2 different packs, depending on whats going on. We each have our 'tornado' backpacks, daypacks, for those times we hunker down avoiding the bad storms with just a few items like guns ammo money food lights a jacket and minor first aid stuff-- those bags stay basically packed and ready to go. We each have another big backpack bigger than an Alice, that can hold lots and lots. It would need to be packed a bit but critical stuff like MRE's and first aid stays packed, we would plan on needing to be gone perhaps a few days if we have the big bags. Got 'em on sale through REI outlet online. $180 decent quality big 3-4 day backpack got it for $79. And then there is the "2 am bag" - a couple of extra loaded magazines for the G17, knife, flashlight, and pepper spray to accompany me & the cell & the G17 if I have to do any 2 am recon from hearing odd noises made by intrusive crack heads brain-eating Zombies, stray aggressive pit bulls or drunken college students, all which are distinct possibilities for us living just a rifle shot away from Orange Mound and even closer to the U of Memphis campus.
  8. Thanks for all the kind words. I am not up and running yet at full speed, but when I get there I'll post some stuff and send a pm to those who have put in their request.
  9. I just wanted to post this somewhere on TGO. Picked this forum- can't seem to figure out where else it should go. Over the past couple of years I have dropped in and out of TGO as time and interest have permitted. I have been extremely impressed with the integrity that TGO David has displayed in his management of people and personalities. I am impressed with his adherence to high standards and principles in his leadership and administration of TGO. TGO is a good, smart, strong, mostly healthy place, and that's quite a compliment for an online community or any other community for that matter. I have been inspired to try to emulate TGO David's accomplishment. Here's how-- I am a psychologist by trade and I tinker with web stuff in my spare time, so today I set up a discussion board like TGO for folks who have psychological issues. It will be a support group discussion board and it will all be free. I'm not going to tell you where it is or anything, because I am really here to thank you David, not to market my new board. I'll moderate it hopefully with the same zeal, diligence, and integrity I have seen displayed by TGO David 'Tungsten' & the crew here at TGO. I figure if TGO David can create a vibrant, safe, wise community here on TGO with a bunch of gun nuts clingin' to their guns and religion, surely I can somehow help create a supportive community for our citizens who are emotionally or psychologically challenged. At any rate, job well done, Tungsten, sir. Thanks for the integrity. (And hey! Y'all keep sendin' TGO David checks now and then- it is really worth it!)
  10. Guide to Tennessee Vegetable Gardening (Paperback)
  11. Are Fanny packs still (kind of) gay? Not all fanny backs are gay-- some of them are lesbian, and here in Memphis we even have some transgendered, bisexual, and transvestite fanny packs. Midtown Memphis-- It's a walk on the wild side.
  12. G26 or G17 or G19 or SW 642. Depends on how I dress or where I am going.
  13. Yeah, they just removed them from the Commercial Appeal, not from the database. So the CA thinks it is ok for folks to have this data, but not ok for it to appear in the pages of the CA. Double standard, hypocritical, spineless, and just plain wrong, IMHO. But the real solution is legislation.
  14. The Mary_Prankster posts are being censored- the anti-censorship CA is deleting from their website the very data they said should be open! Hypocritical, huh? Mary reposted just a few minutes ago- we'll see if this one lasts. Posted by Mary_Prankster on February 16, 2009 at 12:41 p.m. Reply to this post | Suggest removal Saturday and Sunday I posted some HCP database info that the CA has made publicly available and it was removed by the CA staff. I am reposting it for the 3rd time because it has been censored by the CA twice- I thought the people have a right to know- what is wrong with them having this data? Will the CA once more censor the very data they say should be open? We'll see. The CA made it available to all of us on earth with internet access, so what's the big deal? Why would the CA desire to delete the info you allowed me to access on your website? If it should not be published here in the comments on your website, why do you allow anyone to find it? If it does no harm to have this info public, why would the CA staff delete it from the comments? Now, if the CA thinks that this HCP permit data should be deleted from the comments does that not indicate that perhaps the CA should not make it available to anyone in the world with an internet connection? Or, are some people in this database treated as special? If the data I am publishing on your website should be deleted, then why is the database available on your website? If all of the the info is public and we have a right to view it, why did the CA staff delete the very data that they want us to have access to? Lack of backbone? Lack of integrity? Or..? Two entries from the CA HCP database I found interesting that were deleted by the CA staff: Last Name CALIPARI First Name SUE Middle Name ELLEN Suffix Birth year 1956 City MEMPHIS State TN ZIP 38111 Issue Date 7/12/2007 Expiration Date 7/12/2011 and: Last Name HARDAWAY First Name ANFERNEE Middle Name DEON Suffix Birth year 1971 City MEMPHIS State TN ZIP 38125 Issue Date 5/3/2008 Expiration Date 5/3/2012
