  1. If you are willing to sacrifice capacity the new sig 9mm (not out yet) might be an option. Its the 9mm version of 238 (a 380) and a mini 1911 design (SAO, not DA, but is cocked & locked). Pricey, though. Not sure about the width, but it should be fairly thin. Its the p938, 1.1 wide, but only a 6+1 capacity. Might be a bigger mag later on, but at most +2 more, prob +1, so looking at 7-8 +1 long term?
  2. Heh, I would extend that to all the tactical gear. It is overpriced junk, by and large. About the only things I find a use for are a forend grip/bipod. The bipod lets me bench rest without hauling a prop of some sort. The forend is nice for short range, multi-target defensive or offensive rifle combat. The rest of that stuff is of no value to me.
  3. 1.25 is off the CZ page, and probably the widest part of the gun they could find (?). I agree most of the pistol is thinner. Same for some of the others listed, the widest part vs most of the frame.

    Glock vs 1911!

Or they prefer the 1911 because one of the 3 stages is specified as "you shall shoot a 1911". A good revolver has as good a trigger out of the box, and as good a barrel and accuracy. For 1/5 the cost or less.
  5. .2 inches is significant for pocket carry, not much else. I can tell a huge difference between my rami and my px4 in width. Kel tec is an interesting choice. I will say this: you get what you pay for. The kel tec is a great size and price, and it has a lifetime full service warranty. But there is no nice way to say it: the cz is better in just about every category (except price), IMHO. I had a kel tec (used and sold to me broken) and they rebuilt it from the ground up for free, after that it worked flawlessly. And I would still not trade you my rami for 3 or 4 of them.
  6. I have a px4. It is way, way too fat for its size, and that is after I ground the safetys flat so its not just the safety. It is not cocked and locked. It is not terribly accurate (average, at best). It is a bit heavy. All in all I would say it does not meet too many of 1-8. I like mine, a lot, but it does not match up IMHO.
  7. Ruger SR9 1) not sure. Most rugers are reliable. Accurate? Not like the cz, but probably OK. 2) 1.25, as above 3) 15 I think. I am not 100% sure. 4) 9mm 5) frame is grip, check 6) unsafe action: fail 7) average price 8) plastic, check Fails the action (striker, not DA and certainly not cocked and locked), the width (again, hard to get lower than 1.25), is not going to be target pistol accurate (most likely).
  8. CZ - RAMI. 1) absolutely. 2) 1.25. I do not think you will find a double stack at 1.1 (??) 3) 10-13 rounds. Is 13 enough? 4) 9mm, check 5) Nope, its a mag extension. Unless your hands are small. 6) DA and cocked and locked. Actually only the CZ (and some clones like EAA) are this way, most are either DA not C&L or SA/C&L 7) reasonably priced 8) your choice: both metal and poly models. So, basically it fails the pinky extension, the width (barely), and 13/15 rounds. Pretty close. I love mine.

    FN 5.7

The 5.7 is a 22 caliber pistol with a lot of energy. It is approximately twice as powerful as a 22 magnum. Much like a 223, it is designed to tumble. An interesting round, many swear by it. At the end of the day, it is still going to have less momentum and less energy than a 9mm --- meaning it does not blow up buildings or vaporize cars or anything
  10. Does anyone know WHAT that speedshooter had done to his gun? The trigger pull is very short, and he is shooting it DAO style. It seems to be not only short but light, unless he is just ultra strong. The cylinder flops in and out easy yet it clearly aligns properly when fired. Its probably got $2k in gunsmithing for his gun, at a guess, but can something like that be done for a reasonable price? My DA revolvers can be lifted by the trigger without even budging the hammer.

    Glock vs 1911!

If it truly came down to these 2 choices and nothing else, I would take the 1911 as well. But that is the best of 2 bad choices, IMHO. Thankfully there are hundreds of other models to choose from. If I had to pick one from my safe, probably would grab the ruger p89, its rugged, reliable, high cap, and no great loss if banged around. Trigger is as bad or worse than the glock, though, but the recoil and control factors are much, much better.
  12. some super educated feller with a phd thingy in geology needs to point out to these do-gooders that lead and stuff .... was mined out of the dirt.
  13. Did you ever see the movie "nothing to lose" .... (if not, its great).

    Glock vs 1911!

I wouldnt mind a 9mm 1911 with 15+ rounds. But not a low cap 45 official design. I would rather have my auto shotgun too. AR is fine, I would probably use my ar pistol and keep the rifle stashed. The HK rifle is a good choice... but one of many, any decent 308 is as good, as are many many others. Pick what you like for the long range gun.
  15. If I had been born when JFK was shot, I would be nearly 50. If I could remember it even vaguely (say, elementary school), I would be about to retire. If I had voted for him, I would be at least 65. They say everyone can tell you where they were when he was shot. I sure can, and my answer is probably very similar to most these days: "unborn".
  16. Hey, lookit all the hits on the site, keep up the good work, everyone put more sticky notes out there! .... One or 2 may not matter, but everyone who has not done so yet: please do not go. They do not need 5000 clicks from TGO to enable their ego/mentality/whatever. If people check it out, that one sticky note has done more than its fair share of spreading the word, and posting it here just spreads the word for them. For the 2 who admit going there and finding the site to be moronic, we will never know if there were 1 or 10 or 50 more who went there and joined....
  17. assuming the sights are not quite right (group is high), you would have almost kept the 100s in the 9 ring, which is pretty good. Add to it, your target is awful (it is impossible at 100 yards to even see the x or rings, its just a man target that far out). Put up something you can SEE at 100, like orange on black, and the group will tighten up some. I can hit a skeet clay at 100 with iron nearly every time: it is bright orange and quite visible at that distance. Shooting at a man-blob target, however, I cannot make a skeet clay sized group because there is no "point" to aim at. All in all it is good shooting, very good if you are truly new to it. If you want to see just how good you are, go to walmart. Get some of those orange sticker targets. Put a 2-3 inch diameter on on the head. Try again. I bet you hit the orange 50% of the time and the head 100%. (and lower the sights or aim a touch low intentionally).
  18. some calibers are difficult to find in boxer. Not very many, thankfully.
  19. its on par, "about" $20 for "about" 500 rounds. They have a shelf of medium-high grade including some eley target grade & similar stuff, and a good 22 mag selection. Those are the only things I buy anymore, are rimfire, so beyond that I cannot comment but they have a LOT of ammo for sale in a lot of calibers, so price aside at least you can find what you need.
  20. coming weekend is idpa. one weekend a month is nothing at all. The cost is 1 nra membership + a small fee per year (100 or less??). Gotta have that NRA membership though. 200 yard max rifle, skeet area, and pistol areas, though the rifle range is best for pistol unless you are shooting at short, indoor type distances (?).
  21. the primers are hardish to come by, on top of being a pain to work with. Some folks rig up a system to remove them with water pressure. I do not know how to do all this stuff but a good place to find discussion on it is the milsurp dedicated forums at gunboards.com. They were excited late last year that some berdan primers were going to be available and were all getting ready to buy it up as fast as it came in.
  22. lester, sportsmans has blazer bulk packs, wally does not, unsure about academy. By the way CCI makes an "ar friendly" .22 bulk pack that is also quite good, very accurate in pistols and seems to feed better in just about everything. I forgot the name but it has AR on it somewhere. Its a little more expensive -- might be like $20 for 350 instead of 500.
  23. The chamber counts. So drop a dowel rod down the barrel, mark it at the crown, pull it out, measure the rod, has to be at least 16 or 18 or whatever it is inches long.
  24. I agree with that, the govt does not need to be involved in this. That is why I said I am torn on it... I could do with the policy being fixed, but do not want government behind it. My situation is not that bad; as I said its a no brainer to smuggle in the pills. But it should not have to be that way.
