Google maps: 34.948442,-85.258343 GPS coord or its at #2 forrest road, 858-5626 phone roughly, its directly across the st (other side of that intersection) from the sears shoe store, behind the gas station that looks like it may have once, 50 years ago, been an exxon.

I had a major pause when he referred to newton's theory (his LAWS!!!)... "Newton’s theory suggests that for every force there is an equal and opposite force." Suggests?? If that is only a suggestion, we are lucky to have moved beyond horse and buggy tech.

[Eotech] AAAAAA! Leaking batteries!!
Jonnin replied to Caster's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Yes, this is correct. Water is both an acid and a base (HOH actually, acids start with H, and bases end with OH) which is why it is neutral. Water will work just fine, if you use a lot of it, but the acid will do it faster. My advice is to simply not store the thing with batterys in it after this. If you think you will hit the range and forget them, tie a pack to the barrel, in the original package. -
Sorry that didnt come out right. 1 solid piece means it is just 1 piece. Its still hollow, see? Like a drinking cup is 1 solid piece of plastic, yet hollow too. Inside the hollow part are 2 "pegs" that the screws for the recoil pad go into, but those are just created by the mold that makes the stock, its still just the 1 piece. They do this because its a one step process to make the stocks. Making them adjustable means moving parts and a lot more process, which means more costs. Just like any other product, stuff sells better if the price seems fair so they cut corners to keep the prices down, both to max out profits and to keep it "reasonable" for the public. You can get adjustable stocks, but those cost quite a bit more...

History Repeats Itself, but You Get Nothing From Me

I guess I am more practical and greedy. Sounds like a market for disposable guns and a way for our businesses to make a profit from their mistakes. But you are talking to the guy who thinks we should charge whatever country our troops are in double our expenses for our military presence too... -
Hmm the one I was looking at seem to be1 solid piece, I don't see a way to pull out a plate. Its just solid plastic and the screws go into 2 dowel rod looking protrusions that were moulded when the stock was formed, or so it seems. Mine must be a cheapo stock.

The price is an eye opener, I suppose I was comparing cheap 9mm and not the SD stuff, that is a valid point. The energy levels from corbon do not give barrel lengths. Looking at ballistics by the inch, using a fairly standard 3 inch barrel (typical carry gun): 357 sig: corbon 115 grain: 1373 fps 9mm : corbon 115 : 1245 fps 357 sig: 125gr : 1373 .40 : 135 gr: 1212 so the sig is a little more potent than 9mm but not by huge amounts. The 40 does not come in so light a load (but it could be done) but is nearly identical if you were able to find identical bullet weights. The ammo makers are notorious for not giving the actual barrel length along with their supposed velocities and energy levels -- however comparing the 2 sources of data, they look to have used very similar test guns at cor bon. Given the small price difference in quality ammo, though, I can withdraw the complaint!

History Repeats Itself, but You Get Nothing From Me

wow, nice find. I would be happy for our police and military to sell captured/obsolete/worn out/etc weapons that were to be destroyed or auctioned to the brits during their time of crisis. Nothing for nothing though, I do not recall the british sending any weapons to us for the katrina riots, and america cannot afford to give anything away to anyone any more, so it has to be a cash for guns sort of transaction. -
The sig caliber is epic fail. In a duty pistol sized gun, it is nearly identical to a 9mm round, give or take 50-100 FPS difference in velocity for the same sized bullet. If you have a 6-10 inch barrel monster pistol or a carbine, the sig begins to show 200-500 and more fps gains and is noticably better, but the police are not using such big weapons. They are just wasting taxpayer money on ammo for a tiny bit of velocity gains or possibly to shoot a slightly heavier bullet. Meanwhile, the .40 is nearly identical to the sig if a heavier bullet is used, around 130 grains for example. Its harder to reload the sig, probably, with that neck (I am guessing the cases need trimming?), there are fewer gun choices, fewer ammo choices, and absolutely no reason to move to this caliber in a duty pistol and every reason not to. Esp in a budget crunch; I do not see how TN can move to double+ priced ammo when the state is struggling to make ends meet.

its possible but the plastic ones tend to be hollow, with a couple of places for screws for the recoil pad. If you cut it, you may have to cut the screws to be shorter (else they may go in deep and split or cut something), and if you take off too much (this varies by brand and so on) you get to a point where the pad will not fit and the screw holes are too short. Once you get past the holes, there is *nothing* there to screw into and you can never attach a pad the normal way again. Anyway, you should be able to do it but look at it close, measure an inch or so in to see what that leaves you for the screws and so on, see if it can be done. This sort of thing is much, much easier with wood!

I am a fan of the caliber but there are no decent guns chambered for it. The witness is ok for the range, and that is the best of the lot. I wish it had gone the way of the 223: all guns chambered in 10mm and if you want a .40, swap the recoil spring. Instead, its all guns chambered in .40 and if you want a 10mm, too bad.

Mostly a political statement combined with the old boy scout "be prepared" school of thought. Never needed a gun, havent really been in a fight of any sort since high school. If I ever need it, the problem is solved, but I go out of my way to not need it by avoiding bad areas and paying attention and such. I have a gun in reach 24-7 and it takes some strong motivtion to get me to go to places that do not allow it.
-
many inexpensive and even mid grade guns are not finished well inside. You see metal burrs and machine/tool marks etc. I knock off any burrs and let it go at that unless something is causing a problem; if the mess on your feed ramp causes feeding issues you can either polish it out or send it back to the factory and have them do it.
-
correct, that was not really the point, I had to pick subsonic or the round arrives before the sound (which it does in reality) and 1000 was easy to do in my head.
-
if the bullet were moving at 1000 fps, and traveled 8000 feet, it took 8 seconds to arrive and the victim would have 3/4 of a second to move after hearing the sound, roughly... however it was probably booking right along at 2500 fps or so...

Welcome! I was the same, started on long guns, but I fell in love with handguns as I got older. Now I like both but shoot the handguns more, harder to get to a long range for a rifle.

The attempted robbery is the second time in less than a week when an armed robber has been shot by a victim in St. Petersburg. Need to see this number go up and up until its not even news anymore. -
Caliber Question..no not stopping power, lol
Jonnin replied to Defender's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Grab and go? 22 lr target/hunting pistol, 223 pistol or rifle (probably the pistol), 9mm pistol, and 12 ga shotgun. I would return later for the rest, esp a good hunting rifle, but if in a hurry, those 4 would be the short term solution. -
I have the small kel tec 223, but the only difference is the barrel length and stock, the action and all are the same. It is a good gun for a good price, and my "pistol" is more accurate than the mini 14 was and takes standard ar mags -- it is a better gun than the ruger! AR is a better way to go if you want to customize and poke at it, but if you just want an out of the box shooter, the kel tecs are great.
-
The mini tends to be inaccurate in the 223 setup, not sure about the other caliber but probably the same. It will take any ammo you feed it all day long, and is a fun short range gun, but not a target rifle. The mags are nonstandard and difficult to insert, you have to hang a peg into a hole in the mag, and it can take a lot of practice to seat the mags properly. I would say get something else, personally. If you do get one, go with the bigger caliber and make it a short range defense rifle, maybe hang a red dot on it.

I used one of the bolt on rails that just fit onto your existing handguard, $10 or so solution. Worked great.

Consider all your guns (well, ammo types) before you pick a press and accessories. Will you reload everything, or what? For your rifle you probably fire 20-25 per session (just a guess, last time out with my mauser 10 rounds was all I fired) which can be done with very basic gear. If you shoot 100 rounds of some pistol each week, or a zombie rifle, you may want a setup that can do mass production. Gunboards is all about old military stuff and has a reloading section as well as leads on hard to find ammo.
