Every brand has been trashed online for bad service by someone who got a raw deal, and every brand has been praised for being awesome. I would not let that stuff enter into the decision, instead focus on the gun itself and those reviews. If you want to try mine give me a pm, Im in chatt town too. You have to buy the ammo though. I did wear out my recoil spring finally, new one is much better design, and I got 3 for not much $$.

I understand, just noting that the idea fails in reality, do you really think the move-back-in-with-a-kid-at-35 crowd will have the ability to support their mom & dad & stepmom in 10-15 years while sending their now 2+ kids to college and possibly feeding/supporting some grandkids?! The idea sorta works for folks that have some decent income and resources within the family. It fails utterly for the lower income (over 50% of the population) crowd.

This is correct, dollar for dollar, assuming zero inflation.

Its beautiful until you have no kids, or the modern divorce family where you have 8 step-parents, or any of a dozen other scenarios beyond "the 1950s family of 4" utopia. Its horrible once you get some real world circumstances going.

The surplus is correct but its only on paper. From the web, which may or may not be correct: "These [Trust Fund] balances are available to finance future benefit payments and other Trust Fund expenditures – but only in a bookkeeping sense.... They do not consist of real economic assets that can be drawn down in the future to fund benefits. Instead, they are claims on the Treasury that, when redeemed, will have to be financed by raising taxes, borrowing from the public, or reducing benefits or other expenditures. The existence of large Trust Fund balances, therefore, does not, by itself, have any impact on the Government’s ability to pay benefits. (from FY 2000 Budget, Analytical Perspectives, p. 337)" --- the trust fund they mention is the surplus which is stored in treasury bonds which is basically an IOU.

Its a scam, though. Insurance, tax, whatever word is used for it. I call it a tax because I cannot opt out of it, to put the money into investments of my choosing or to spend. Its a scam because the money was not invested and grown to keep pace with inflation and so on -- it was designed to be fed by the working age people to support the elderly at a time when the elderly were a smaller ratio of folks to the workers, it was ill thought out and unsustainable for changes in population dynamics or economy or inflation etc. Think of it this way, you could borrow $100 from me today to invest into say gold, sell your gold in 10 years for $125, pay me my 100 back, and keep the 25. That is great for you but I lost money due to inflation, my $100 isnt worth what it was back then. That is what the government is doing, year in and year out: it takes a dime from a 20 year old to pay to a 65 year old, but when it comes time to pay back that dime to the 20 year old, they owe that person $1 because of inflation/cost of living/etc. So they borrow $1 from the 20 year olds to pay the new retiree back.... on and on it goes. Even if you got out what you paid in dollar for dollar --- its not sustainable due to inflation etc, and if they pay you interest, they have to have invested the money to earn it, which is not being done!

Do you teach to "Take up the trigger" or not?
Jonnin replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
This. That last bit is why I have not blown hundreds of dollars to take some of these classes where, from what I have seen and heard, nothing but a glock will do (this isnt a comment on glock, its a comment on instructor mentality and the one size fits all attitude). For a very blatent example, take the spamsight quiz, the answers are all tailored to make the poor sap reading them think that anything but a glock is about as effective as a squirt gun, its funny but its also sad to think of the noobs that wasted money on it. -
That gun is too fat to conceal in tight pants using *any* method, esp women's pants which have a terrible practice of almost no real pockets (they assume your stuff is in your purse). I cannot think of anything at all that could hide a fatty like that in tight clothing, its very difficult. Small of the back a great choice except retail means bending over fairly often, and it could be exposed that way. Belly band is safer IMHO, but uncomfortable and STILL going to show in tight clothing with that pistol. I hate to suggest this one but have you considered a single stack gun in a similar plaftorm? Glock has not figured out the single stack/slim option yet but there are a number of good ones out there that may do better for a woman that dresses in this manner.

It was a loss from day 1. My great grandmother's husband signed up about on the first day(they would have been about 40 years old), and when he passed on grandma drew on it until she died in about 1990. She probably got some 3-5 times what they paid into it. Not everyone lived that long but I would say most of the folks that joined it in the early days pulled out more than they put in and its been behind since. It does a lot of good, supposedly keeping some 1/3 of the elderly out of poverty (barely), but its a scheme of taking from the young forever to feed it and the moment jobs/taxes/etc are in the toilet, like today's economy, there isnt enough to feed the machine esp with old folks getting older and older with all that good health care our country has. Best way to fix SS is to ensure that everyone of working age has a good job that can be taxed to feed it... !!

You like what you like. My wife has a 7 inch barrel buckmark, though she does not use her wood grips when they are on it looks a LOT like that 41. Hers is a round barrel but there is a slab barrel if you like the overall flat look. Again the big deal on that 41 is really the trigger for competition type shooting or very serious plinking. If you don't mine a cruddy trigger you can buy one of the 3 cheap 22s (buckmark, ruger, and S&W 22a) and have plenty of accuracy and all.

No, I am not saying any of those things are bad or good, just that its an exchange of one set of troubles for another with a lot of chaos during the transition. I do not think a drastic change can be done overnight without rocking an already unstable system. I do not support a min wage but what I am saying is that taking it out overnight woud lead to who knows what sort of reactions -- might be great by 2025 but it could also mean that 2013 will envy the good old days of 1930! The only way a drastic change can be done without causing as many problems as it solves is if the changes made involve a great deal of common sense and sound economics... which is simply not possible with today's leadership, IMHO. Going "pure" is very risky for an already bleak short term, at the very least, that is my main point, and probably not a solution long term either. Go back to look at the history of the cartel of big oil, big train, big business from the 1870s and the many problems caused by zero regulation before giving a return to this environment a serious consideration. If you think walmart or microsoft or the others are bad NOW, imagine them with a free rein and get back to me on that. They may create some jobs, but would that be enough to justify the rest of it?

Mav kindly let me try his 41, and that trigger is amazing and it is well balanced with a nice grip and feel. Great review, and ty again for letting us try it out. BTW I dont consider age to matter all that much, about half of my guns are 20-30 and more years old. Gulp... my first pistol is 20 this year. Best not to think about that too much.
-
I think it would be borderline for say a 45 acp. A slow moving 45, esp if under-loaded a bit to make it work, probably is not hot enough on the nose of the round to ignite it. Hard to say, I agree someone should have tried it by now.

8:22 est, comcast. It was not up like 15 min ago but I hadnt tried before that either. -
The colt is the best of the 3 IMHO. I have a colt and a para and had a g19 as well, the glock is a glock, love em or hate them they are all the same. The para has had a few issues, the colt flawless, both bought new at the same time. Para broke its unbreakable extractor pretty early in life, the service was excellent (sent me the part and helped me get it swapped), and has had a number of fail to feeds which at this point I blame on the mags that came with it (research in progress). It was unfinished inside and very rough spots on the slide were cutting up my barrel until I found those, still some deep scratches from that.

Mine looked like it was shot by a drunken pirate. I was young and it was hot out there, I just wanted to get it done, they had to tell ME to slow down!

The pure version leads to monopolys which, after killing off all competition, can then charge 1000x the prices or whatever. This is not so good (think arabic oil cartels which work as a single entity even if they are not to keep prices high). There are a number of other problems with it but business without regulations can cause a fair amount of trouble, from slave labor (remember pure form would mean no min wage) to corruption (shoddy goods, no regulation..!) and so on. I wouldnt recommend this. No regulation means insider trading and so on for the markets as well, enron comes to mind...?

I think you missed the point of crap & trade. It is to open the doors to TAXING breathing, not outlawing it. And, get this... co2 is good for plants, the people behind this want to help the environment (which is done by planting more stuff which makes a place for animals too etc) they even call it the GREEN movement. This guy is just another in a long line of folks who cannot beat the system and gave up. At one time in my career, I was given a small raise that popped me up a tax bracket so I was earning less for getting a raise from doing a better job. I had to beg them to take it back until it could be increased by a certain amount.

This is common. Take any retail store, they very likely have a no guns policy for their employees yet allow in armed HCP holders. Walmart, for example. The reason? Some manager somewhere is afraid of postal syndrone, where he fires or disciplines an employee and that person becomes irrational and kills him. Or they fear the lawsuits that will come (WILL, not may) when some employee blows away a thug that is robbing the place. Or 1000 other scenarios that lead to lawsuits. Combine that with the fear of the uninformed or the hatred of the anti-gunners, and it adds up to stupid policy.

Haha, not what I meant anyway. I meant the cutting or taxing is going to happen if the ammendment does, at which point anyone elected will only have unpopular choices to make, replace every single member of congress, the new group will have the same unpopular choices, I think eventually even the dumbest voter will understand that. But the ammendment is not gonna happen anyway. If it did, it should also force states to present a balanced budget each year as well IMHO. Im full of crazy ideas lol, I say they raise taxes on corporations BUT subtract from their total taxes a large amount for every person they employee full time, say -10k taxes owed per employee. Im sure there are reasons that is a bad idea, but there are so many things no one has tried or even mentioned. They cant seem to think of anything new to do-- and that alone is going to mean that nothing good gets done.
-
That is why the ammendment is a good idea. If they can ONLY spend what they take in, they are forced to cut or raise taxes (or both), neither one is popular. We can't vote out everyone every term... at some point someone has to do these 2 things and while I can see some folks voting against the one who cut their part of the pie, an equal number may support them for getting the country back on track. Its going to hurt, for sure. I certainly will lose out some as a defense contractor, already have as the funding for projects has been nil for over a year now, this story is nothing new to me =(

I like how our company manual reads. It says no unauthorized weapons are allowed. So the HCP holder quietly speaks to the boss, gets permission, and all is well, no one else needs to know anything about it, yet it reads like an outright ban which keeps the sheep happy. Otherwise, you may need something stronger such as "employees may not have firearms inside the buildings at any time". But I would try to get that permission clause in there, which can be used in many ways from allowing the pastor and or a couple of deacons or whatever to carry in a "security guard" type concept all the way to allowing anyone with a HCP or the other extreme of allowing no one at all.

I just do not agree with the flashlight fans. I agree to keep it simple, but lights? They ruin your night vision and paint you as a target, better hope the one you lit up was the only one if you use those things.

The one I got was : REMINGTON 870 SUPERCELL RECOIL PAD - Brownells which fit my 1100 close enough with a little effort. At least I think this is what I got, I poked around until I figured out which pump gun was the same stock as mine and got the pad designed for it since it was listed for the pump version. The brand is correct, but maybe it was a different model, I have forgotten.

It does not take a lot of nic to be deadly. Pure Caffine may work too, amongst other things. But as others said it probably isnt easy to make such a thing work due to velocity and temp etc. The feces thing probably does not work well either, temp would kill the bacteria same as it would burn up other things, most likely. Someone once said superglue a small pistol primer inside the hollow point area would probably be more effective than trying for a toxic payload. I dunno. I assume there are solid toxins that could be made to survive the environment and that a HP delivery is possible, but I have no clue what methods would work to secure the payload and ensure that it were left in the body rather than pushed on thru, very difficult to do that IMO.
