  1. I’ve been retired six years. I go fishing and hunting in the middle of the week. No crowds. I do things with family on weekends when they are off from work. Other than that, every day is Saturday! Do what you want. I’ve just started taking wildlife photos. Sometimes while driving in the  WMA’s I’ve never been to, sometimes from my trusty favorite tree stand because you can see just about anything in the woods and the season is always open. Good luck and enjoy yourself.

Not typically.  If I do, it's to a 6'6" Light/Fast St. Croix on a 2500 size reel.  I'm still generally running light braid and light leader to get good casting distance from the tiny stuff.  You can have a whole lot of fun fishing that stretch on an ultralight rig.  The last few times I've fished it, it's been on a 7' Panfish rod with a 1000 size reel running 6# suffix ghost and 2# or 4# fluorocarbon up front as a leader.  You've got to really dial down your drag - but even small fish are a lot of fun.

There are some big trout coming out of there.  TWRA has done a good job managing our various fisheries over the last few years - we're really starting to see some trophies come out of some of our streams.

I’ve never run braid on my light reels, just my heavy bass reels for spinnerbaits and frogs. It’s a great idea though. I’ll rig up a 6’ dock shooting crappie rod like that for Norris. Thanks for the tip! 👍

My in laws live on the river a few miles down river from there.  I’ve always had good luck with in-line spinners - especially the holographic ones from Walmart.  Those are really my go to lure.

Don’t neglect a trout magnet under a float either.  In sections of the river where you’ve got some ripples, they really do catch fish.

thank you Mac. Do you upgrade your equipment size? I’ve read about some really large trout coming out of there.

  4. I took the wife for a “get me out of this house” drive yesterday to Norris Dam. I’ve wanted to check this place out for a while. I’ve read some articles that the trout fishing below the dam is great, with some really nice size fish being there. I didn’t fish yesterday, just a general scouting trip. The river sure looks good and very promising. I’m going to make the next trip a fishing one for sure in the next couple of weeks maybe, before deer season starts at least. I’m thinking heavier gear would be in order since I’m so used to catching stockers with ultralight equipment. I also read that shallow diving crank baits or stick like baits similar to the rapala is really productive. Anyone here fished there? Any tips would be appreciated. Not honey holes of course….finding my own fish is part of the fun. Anyways. Ya’ll have a great day and be safe out there.

The sooner you stop believing that Republicans care about your natural rights, including the right to self-defense, the sooner you’ll stop being shocked when they don’t act in your benefit.

The GOP may not be perfect, and honestly a few members act like covert Democrat party members, but don’t kid yourself. Your party has been clear about all guns. If they could completely disarm us all, they would.

I just have to run slightly faster than you.

That reminds me of the old dude going fishing in bear country with 3 young dudes. As they was getting their gear out of the truck, Young Dudes saw Old Dude put a .22 revolver in his pocket. They asked him “what’s that?” Old Dude says, “My bear gun.” Young Dudes started laughing and one said “that ain’t gonna stop no bear!!” As they all  just laughed and laughed……he said. “It ain’t for the bear, they’s 3 of you and if I shoot each of you in the knee, I think I’ll have time to get back here to the truck.”

I hope everyone here realizes that you know enough to see how little politicians understand firearms. I further hope you realize they have the same amount of knowledge or economics, healthcare, safety, environment, foreign policy, etc. It's really scary when you stop and think about it.

Yes indeed. SO true. If we could just elect a POTUS that wasn’t a DC bought and paid for politician that just wanted to make America great again…….<sigh> 😩 Hey…that’s an IDEA..!!!!  🧐

  8. There are many people in this country that carry guns anywhere they want everyday and are not restricted at all by what the gun laws are. They probably number in the millions. They also commit armed robbery, murder, rape, sell drugs, rob banks, burglarize homes, jack cars and trucks, commit home invasions and such like. They will continue to carry guns anywhere they want everyday and will not be restricted  at all by what the gun laws are. They probably number in the millions.

  9. I used a 410 in my younger days when I first started hunting. I used number 4’s I think. Later I went to a 22 rifle. Remington 552 speed master. I sure wish I still had that thing. As far as eating squirrels, I always liked to flour them up with salt and pepper and fry them, then take the meat off the bones and make dumplings. The time in the dumplings tenderized the meat really nice.

  10. I did try it but it didn’t do a thing for me. Zero results. A fad IMO.  I have pain from lots of injuries from football, motorcycles, construction work, fighting in my younger days, etc......A total waste of money I don’t have as far as I’m concerned.

  11. It’s simple really. The more vague the Democrats can make the law, the more guns they can confiscate from you and make you have to go to court to fight to keep them. Most can’t afford to do that and they know this. Voting with feelings and emotions (I want to vote for the first black/woman/Mexican/ muslim President etc...) rather than your brain most always has consequences and disaster.

I tried eating gar last year and now it's the main fish I try to catch. The skin is hard as plastic and you need tin-snips to cut it open. After you get it open there are 2 long boneless loins on each side of the back. No need to gut it or skin it. The meat is odorless and firm like chicken. It's like alligator and I love it !!! This Gar was 3 feet long and both loins were around 15 inches long and nice and thick.

Taste like alligator....hmm....maybe that’s another reason they are called alligator gar. Not just for the snout.
