  1. Moped

    Mossberg 590M

This may be the best magazine system for a shotgun I have seen so far!!! Would love to have one of these!!! https://www.mossberg.com/category/series/590m-mag-fed/
  2. Savage 12FV Cabella's special for $249OTD at Black Friday. Only added a Boyds AT One, has older Japanese Tasco 8-32. Off a rest at 175rds shot the last 6 of AE .223 into a nickel. To no practical purpose I suppose you could shorten the barrel, a bit more trigger adjustment and bed the action - you might shrink the group, but considering the price the accuracy is good enough. Match ammo might close the gap even more, but why...???
  3. The current gun control panic just some how feels different to me than the last few. Maybe I'm just getting older. But recently I've been giving thought to finally breaking down and buying an AR. I'm not even real sure why? First let me say that I just flat don't like the AR-15. This goes back to some bad experiences with the M-16A1 when I was in the Army during the early 1970s. I admit they were accurate IF you could keep the damned thing working. And some of the strange malfunctions I saw were down right scary. I've also always felt like Sam Elliot was right in We Were Solders when he said "If the time comes when I need one, I'm sure they'll be plenty of 'em laying around." Also I've never been very impressed by that tiny varmint cartridge it fires. I have no need for one as I already own two M1 Garands, two M1 Carbines and three M1As. So why the hell am I even thinking about this? Let me add that if, and that's a mighty big IF, I were to buy one, that I'd go with a name brand. Right now I'm favoring the Springfield Saint as I have several Springers and trust them completely. I'd also go for one of the 16" M-forgeries as I'd want it as compact as possible without going SBR. On top of that, there's the added cost of extra mags (at least 10), a minimum of 1000 rds of ammo and whatever other stuff I end up getting. In short, this won't be cheap. I never even got the urge for one in '94 or the several panics of the last ten years or so. In fact, last year when my friend passed away his wife would have just given me his and everything that went with it. But I let it pass because I just didn't want one. Again, I have no idea why I'm even considering this. But the fact is that I am. I know there's a lot of people here who just love the damned things. So convince me that I need one or make the arguments that'll talk me out of it. I'll try to keep an open mind.
  4. I’ve never built an ar in anything but 5.56. My understanding was that all the AR caliber lowers were exactly the same , except a few oddballs like 9mm. So I got an email from PSA and it’s advertising 6.5 creedmore lowers, 5.56 lowers and this new Valkyrie Lower. All appear to be exactly the same but all different prices and labeled as their own thing. I need some edumacation.
  5. hey everyone i hope you're all well, i finally have a ar-15 i still have finished the one i was putting together but i went out a couple of weeks ago to academy sports and picked up one of these https://www.springfield-armory.com/products/saint/ have not yet taken it to the range but will try and do so soon, i also picked up a 92fs finally so its been a good year for guns for me lol
  6. If you guys didn't know this I am telling you how to get budget varmint rifle. Cabelas sells a blind box (4+1) 26" heavy barrel varmint rifle called the 12FV for 419.99. Every year during the Black Friday period they offer killer deals on it and have been doing so for about or at least 10yrs. Savage runs a 100.00 rebate on this rifle every year from BF week through Dec 31. However, during the BF weekend they put the 12FV on sale so that once you get your rebate I am paying with taxes 249.99. I have my rifle in hand and it took 7 days from the day I ordered it online to arrive at Cabelas in Bowling Green, KY. I drove in to Cabelas mid week and was out in 15 minutes. No background check cost for long gun you buy in KY because KY does not have a state middle man, they go straight to NICS. Can you get the 12FV Savage from other dealers other than Cabelas? Yes, sort of,but not with the blind magazine. Savage markets through other retailers a Model 12FCV, same rifle as the 12FV but has detachable box mag. (You can convert a blind mag model to detachable mag for a cost, one that I didn't or don't care about, but it is not complicated but you will need the right stock.) The KEY issue with the 12 FCV is that it cost around 750.00 through Buds, and yes you can get the 100.00 rebate till Dec 31 and get the 12 FCV for around 650.00 minus tax and backhground. Oddly, the 12 FV is offered in these calibers: 22.250, 223, .204, 308, 6.5 Creedmoor. http://www.cabelas.com/product/SAVAGE-FV-VARMINT-RIFLE/1994604.uts While the 12FCV only comes in 204, 22-250 and 223. https://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/12FCV but costs in my life a buttload of money. Differences between the 12FV and 12FCV: http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?44608-Difference-between-12FV-and-12-FCV Additionally I learned something else. There is this stuff called Rockite and you can easily and cheaply fill the voids of a plastic stock to add weight and stiffen it up. If the Savage 10/11/12/16 isn't the 1022 of Centerfires I don't what is. I read where some fellas were buying multiple copies of the 12FV, some in all calibers, while others just for the barrels or some just for the actions. Dolomite is the expert on this forum as far as I know on tuning a Savage bolt gun. For those who think the Savage 12FV is too "cheap" an action and still wants to switch barrels my bench rest buddies say try this action: https://www.kelbly.com/actions-aluminum-panda.html
  7. If there is a thread similar to this please direct me. I looked for about 5 minutes. I’m about to start a pistol build and I’m looking for some advice. What is the optimal barrel and rail length? I have a 14.5” rifle with a pinned flash hider to make it 16” now just to put that into perspective. Also I’m looking to make this with mid level components. What braces perform the best? Any recommendations on barrel besides Daniel Defense? I know they’re good to go. Last question. I know it costs around $200 for the stamp to SBR a rifle. That’s just for one single lower that you can put any length barrel upper on correct? Also how long does is usually take to get that stamp back in TN?
  8. I was in my local shop looking at a couple of 410 doubles they had and then they showed me this Not the least bit practical so I decided to hold off, hoping someone else will buy it https://www.americantactical.us/5512/detail.html
  9. I need some mags for a DPMS Gen 2 308. Magpul had an issue with the Pmags and the DPMS G2 compatibility; that doesn’t appear to be fixed. I have zero desire to modify a magazine that doesn’t work properly; so I started looking for an alternative. The name Lancer kept coming up. Never heard of them; anyone using Lancer Mags? How to they compare to Pmags? Any others I should be looking at? (non-metal)
  10. Looks like it has been out a while, but did not realize anyone made a 10mm AR style platform. https://www.tnwfirearms.com/product-p/asrx-cplt-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.htm
  11. I have lately read magazine articles and seen shows on TV about the new 9mm carbines being produced by Sig Sauer, Ruger, etc. I am looking for any information on these carbines (the good/the bad/the ugly). Any information is appreciated.
  12. Probably not anything new, but lately I have seen a bunch of ARs for sale where someone obviously cut off the A2 front sight instead of just replacing it. On these I see no special customization. Am I just seeing "bubba'd" ARs that are coming to light after the bandwagon rush buyers get tired of them? Would not be hard to fix if they were not asking more than I can buy a new one for. Reminds me of seeing a bunch of decent shotguns hacked off when "home defense" shotguns became the rage.
  13. I'm still considering buying an AR-15, but have come to the realization that I know very little about them. I know I want a 16" barrel, I pretty sure I'll just stick with the 5.56. I know I'll probably put some kind of optic on it. I have an EOtech 512 that I could move from another rifle, but I'm also considering going with some type of low power scope for magnification. One question is that I've noticed that many of the flat top models also have the tall A2 type front sight. Does this get in the way when using optics by interfering with the field of view? The flip up front and rear sights look like a good idea, but they also look like they're sticking up there in the open just begging to be damaged. I do want good back up iron sights just in case. Opinions on those? Piston driven or not? Any real advantage to it? I've spent the last 40+ years avoiding ARs and wasn't the least bit interested in learning anything about them. Now that I'm interested, I find myself woefully uneducated. So fill me in. What should I be looking for? What works and what doesn't? If I buy one, and that still "IF", I want to set it up for close to medium range use out to maybe 150 yards. I have other rifles for long range use. What should I be looking for?
  14. I am thinking of buying a Thompson Center Compass in 30.06. Everything I see has excellent reviews, and the price is unbelievable. Has any one had experience with the Compass or other Thompson rifles?
  15. Otay chid-rins, I have the itch to buy/build another AR. Thought I'd get some opinions here first. Trying to decide which brand to go with, that's really what it boils down to. We have built some PSA rifles at home, and I have zero issues with them. But I've had a hankering for one of the other brands such as Colt, Spikes, DD, BCM, etc. What's a good honest high quality value out there nowadays?
  16. Im thinking of picking up an Anderson stripped lower and building my first AR. This will simply be a range gun and back up to home defense as I would reach for my 40 on the night stand first. It would be of 5.56 flavor and I would only build the lower and add a complete upper. Will an Anderson lower fit the bill for what I need considering I can pick one up tomorrow at my LGS? Next question is should I buy two just cause?
  17. A search didn't turn up anything on these so I thought I would post about them. Has anyone here heard of the Midland folding shotguns? Someone on another forum posted about them and I think they look interesting. I like that they have an 18 inch model - I haven't seen many if any 'security' length barrels on singles from the factory. I also like that it accepts chokes. Something like that and a good set of chamber adapters would be one heck of a good survival/subsistance/camping/just plain fun setup to have. Being used to my singles with no manual safety and external hammers it would take a bit of getting used to, for me, but wouldn't really result in an extra step as the best/safest way to carry a single 'in the field' is probably with the gun broken open and carried lying across the off-hand forearm so close it, cock the hammer and fire or close it, disengage the safety and fire - I can't imagine there is much difference. https://www.shootmidland.com/products/midland-backpack-12-gauge-18-5-barrel
  18. Anyone ever bought from these guys? https://22mods4all.com They have a good priced rifle kit and I have a lower to build. Thanks
  19. All the talk of AKs made me want to post my latest project gun, a Bulgarian AK74. Built off a Childer's 80% blank. Not much else to say about it other than it slings brass like no one's business, almost embarrasses my G3.
  20. Looking for recommendations for a shotgun. I'm not an avid small game hunter but I enjoy getting out and knocking around the woods occasionally after deer season is over. I've been using the same 870 for almost 25 years. It's a fine shotgun that does the job well, but it leaves me wishing for something a little lighter. I carried around a Browning Sweet 16 this afternoon, it's not mine, it's a family gun. I've always liked the way that shotgun handled, and no more than I shoot it I wouldn't even be worried about feeding it. Thinking about keeping my eye open for one of my own, but I thought I'd ask around here to see if there were other suggestions. I'm really not set on a particular action, or gauge, I'm not looking for what the best value is, or what is the most durable. I'm looking for something that would be a pleasure to carry and shoot.
  21. has anyone jumped on one of the CMR-30's yet? I'm curious how well they hold POI. I've heard that the barrels get warm quickly and POI starts moving around alot. Curious to hear from folks that have one about their experience and general thoughts on the rifle.
  22. Brothers n Sisters... Once again i find myself wantin to build a 300 Blackout 16 inch barrel upper... Please school me as to your recommendations as to the best barrel, gas system, bolt, etc for this endeavour... The upper would have a simple free float handguard and tritium iron sights... Thanks a bunch in advance... 300BO leroy...
  23. Was talking to a co-worker yesterday about this, I figured there are likely a lot of members here at TGO that have never seen this. If this is your first time, make sure to read all of the captions with the photos, they are WONDERFUL. https://www.northeastshooters.com/xen/threads/diy-shovel-ak-photo-tsunami-warning.179192/
  24. In case anyone is picking up some DPMS rifles, there is a gear rebate to get 4 free mags and a cleaning kit. Not a lot, but considering Sporticals are $479, it is not bad. So if you plan to stock up on some ( I might have picked up a model just in case), be sure to send in the rebate. Looks like you may have to submit via paper only. https://www.cabelas.com/assets/pdfs/dpms_4freemags_cleaningkit_springrebate2_5-1-18.pdf
  25. Thinking of maybe getting this shotgun. Looks good. Thoughts anyone? Jeff is hilarious with some comments..lol
