  2. Started on an AK last night with my neighbor. Got almost everything finished except for some pinning. Now time to finish up my couple that have been sitting around... Looks like my photo didn't upload. Picture tonight.
  3. I am NOT a shotgun person. I can read reviews and all that but I would like to hear about what you have and why you like it. I am currently looking for a skeet shotgun in 12 gauge for my wife, either a semi auto or a over under. Thanks
  4. I recently installed some offset sights (45 degree) on my rifle. I tried to sight them in but to no avail. I thought I was getting close but my adjustments were apparently too much and I was back to square one. My questions are: 1. Can you boresight 45 degree sights to at least get on paper? My shooting vise can't hold the rifle at 45 degrees. 2. How much adjustment is made by each turn of the post and rear sight (i.e. 1/4 turn = 1 moa)...I making up the numbers because I don't know how much or how little each turn actually makes. This is the first time I have actually tried using iron sights and found it to be somewhat fun (if I can get them zeroed). My primary optic is a Vortex Spitfire. I wanted something in case my main optic failed or got broken and I'm forced to use the BUIS if the SHTF. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  5. I'm building up a few more ARs, and for some reason I'm intrigued by the idea of a side charging upper for use on a minimalist rifle. Anyone have personal experience with side charging uppers? I'm particularly interested in positive or negative comments about specific brands. So far I'm hearing good things about BCA and Crosshill Technology (apparently they're out of business now); mixed things about American Spirit Arms; bad things about AR-Stoner. But there are lots of models around, including Tennessee's own CMT. If you've used any of them, I'd appreciate knowing your thoughts. Background: I shoot long guns left-handed, and I've determined that shooting a right-handed (i.e., right-ejecting) semiauto from the left side offers some gun handling advantages. It's one of the benefits of shooting an AK from the left hand. So I'm not interested in any of the AR side chargers with the handle on the left side (New Frontier, JARD, Spartan, etc.). Thanks, Whisper
  6. We've all seen smooth old doubles where you hit the lever and the action just slides open so smoothly. We've also seen some where you just touch the lever and they fall open. Well I've got one that you can break it over your knee and its still a pain to open! What would you polish/buff/fluff/sprinkle with hoodoo magic to get it to open smoothly? It's a EEA Bounty Hunter II made in Russia.
  7. Anyone have one that can give opinions? After selling my PLR-16 I figured out I made a mistake. So I’ve been trying to find a used PLR-16 or a Diamondback DB15. I have never even seen the Diamondback except on the net. I can get it from Buds for $725 new. Since all the used offers have been over new price; I’m thinking about ordering one or the other. I know what I’m getting with the PLR-16, but would like some feedback on the Diamondback DB15. Is it worth the approx. $225 more?
  8. I've been wanting a semi-auto 12ga that uses magazines and found this the other day. I've read a bit about them and see pros and cons. It's a turkish made shotgun. I have found it as low as the mid $400 range and if it's a decent firearm, that may be a good price. Anyone know anything about these: Akdal MKA 1919 Match Semi-Auto 12 Gauge Shotgun, 19.7" Barrel, 5 Rounds
  9. I don’t guess they are even testing the water, they are just jumping right to the top between Leupold and NightForce (Pricewise). That’s cool if they are of that quality. I wonder if they have designed and made their own, or if they have some offshore builder making them for them. Anyone tried them out yet? http://www.eotechinc.com/precision-rifle-scopes
  10. Picked these up Friday. First up is a nice used MAK. First pic is how she came home and the second is in regular furniture. The other is NIB, which is rare to find these days. Better quality that the new stuff on the market for sure. Finding two in the same place at the same time is seldom at best. These were not "steals" but comparable in price to the C39 stuff. These are some of the best quality AK examples that were ever imported in the country.
  11. What's the best place in the Nashville/Murfreesboro area to buy AR lower receivers? I'm mainly interested in Anderson Mfg or Aero Precision, but I'd consider others if the price was right. Thanks, Whisper
  12. I Have a friend who wants a handgun...He has a Remington 700 bdl with heavy barrel and vortex Diamondback 3.5x10x50 scope....I have the rifle and he has my glock 43 with trijicon hd sights...both in like new condition.....I could do even trade but I dont want to take advantage of him....anyone who has worked with me here knows im extremely fair....What would in yalls opinion be a good boot to offer on top of G43...or is it good the way it is....i do have to replace the trigger or let remington replace their callback..Thanks Guys..
  13. I need some wisdom from you guys.........guess i better just buy a new rifle ? .to get back in hunting action lol..
  14. If I read this correctly no new VEPRs due Russia sanctions. Hopefully they will find a loophole so they will resume imports. I've got a 762x54r Vepr and I waited almost too long to order extra mags. Got 4 factory 5 rd mags coming Monday. Whoop whoop! There are some aftermarket 10rd mags out there but I've read mixed reviews. The factory mags are reliable.

    Latest AKs

Probably my last AK acquirement for a while. These are both GP 10/63 Wasrs. Built with Military parts with the exception of the receiver. I consider these to be the best quality WASRs ever brought in. I got one of these at a shop I used to frequent in a neighboring state. It had a flare launcher and a slide fire stock and "tacticool" optics and rails. I made them an offer for the gun minus the flare launcher and slide fire stock.(You don't need one to bump fire an AK) One pic shows it as I saw it the first time. It is the one on the right in the dark hardwood stock. The other pickup was sort of accidental. I went to a local shop yesterday and they had a used WASR on the wall. I looked and lo and behold it was GP 10/63. I looked at the trunnion date and it was 1966- my birth year. So I brought it home. I put some SAR- forewood on it with palm swells. I just poly'd the stock so the sheen would sort of match the fore end. I've got two AK 74 style brakes coming Monday to finish them out. Very pleased with these two. They work like they are supposed to as well.
  16. Hey guys i have a question about a rifle ..I work qith a guy having financial trouble and wants to sale the rifle 40 bucks....I know the missing bolt will run me 450.00 + I would like to help him out but not really sure if a older better quality Remington is worth the cost to dishout so much for a bolt vs getting a new one instead ... I need some help on this one guys, not sure what to do..
  17. Stevens Model 58 Bolt Action 12 Gauge Shotgun with adjustable choke. $200 OBO I don't know much about this other than it belonged to my brother and he was not a hunter so I doubt he used it much. Im sure it has a lot of closet years. Selling it for his widow. If this price is too high let me know what you think is fair.
  18. Stevens 12 Gauge bolt action shotgun with adjustable choke. $200 or best offer. For some reason I am unable to load photos but as soon as I figure it out I will add photos.

    Long Guns

Not sure if this is the right place to post this and if not please move it to proper place. I'm sure many of you remember me telling you I lost my best friend and coffee buddy about 3 months ago. Well he had a lot of firearms mostly hand guns and I was told his son would be taking his firearms so I thought that ment all of them. I found out today the he only was interested in the hand guns and not what few long guns he had. I had to go by his home today and pick up a few fishing related items because he has a ton of fishing tackle I am trying to sell for his wife as I promised him back years ago I would do if anyhting happened to him. Anyway his wife told me she has no idea what she is going to do with all the guns in the gun case in his den/office. I said what guns and she took me in and sure nuff there is a gun case with about 8 long guns in it. I know what most of them are but there is a couple I don't know but I am going back over and take pictures of all of the long guns. They are for sale and once I have the pictures I will be posting them all along with the gun cabinet that is being sold. I am going to have to have some help on identifying a few of the guns and probably some price ideas. I think 2 of the rifles may be Russian made. 1 is long and one is somewhat shorter but bolt actions seem identical I think there is also a bayonnet assembly in the case that fits one 1 of them.

    1" Rings

As I continously repurpose gear and accessories, I am planning on mounting my "vintage" Japanese glass 4x Bushnell on my sporterized SMLE. Got some cheap WM rings for another 1" tube, thinking I should get higher quality? Recommendation? Not going to shoot it's bunch. Anyone got a set for sale?
  21. I've started thinking about something economical and relatively accurate at 600 meters or so. A lot of Old School shooters would have put together a Swedish Mauser. While searching prices on the internet, I ran across new Howa bolt action rifles in 6.5 Swede and wondered if that might be as good or better, especially considering how hard it might be to find a Swedish Mauser with a really great barrel. These Howas are priced from about $450 on up. That's cheaper than most Swedish Mausers I've found listed. I do already have a Weatherby Vanguard in .308, which I believe was made by Howa, and it is a very good rifle considering the price. IIRC, both my Vanguard and the Howas in 6.5 I've been looking at are on Howa 1500 actions. What are some views on the Howa, the 6.5 Swede caliber, and so forth? I'm not any great marksman, but would like something I can reliably get MOA at 400-600 meters, without going into debt. Also, I think the Howa is also available in 6.5 Creedmore. How does that compare to the 6.5 Swede?
  22. I'm a city kid. Never been hunting in my life. Just not part of my upbringing. Consequently, my intro to guns was in the military and then the tactical/EBR era. Well, I've been thinking about getting a bolt action rifle for a minute and @robtattoo's for sale thread on that custom 280AI was the catalyst for me to get off my duff and get to it. (I came very close to getting it, but that weirdo caliber scared me off.) So after a little research I bought myself a Montana Rifle Company ASR in 308. It's got the absolute best trigger I have ever felt. It doesn't feel like it moves. It just breaks at 3#. It's nuts. The bolt design of the Model 1999 is a mixture of the Model 70 and the Mauser. She's a beautiful piece of work. I'm getting a killer discount on the optic from a friend of mine, but it's going to take a few weeks for that to come in. It's going to get a Nightforce NSX 3.5-15x50 MILR. My intent is to build a rifle that will forever be able to exceed my abilities. Here is the link to image gallery.
  23. I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this, please correct it if needed. I'm wondering if someone can tell me the current law regarding carrying a rifle in your vehicle, such as an AR-15, if you have a valid HCP. I see references to 39-17-1307 in Google search results, but when I pull the current version, the text does not match. What I do find is 39-17-1308: (a) It is a defense to the application of § 39-17-1307 if the possession or carrying was: (1) Of an unloaded rifle, shotgun or handgun not concealed on or about the person and the ammunition for the weapon was not in the immediate vicinity of the person or weapon; (2) By a person authorized to possess or carry a firearm pursuant to § 39-17-1315 or § 39-17-1351; Does that apply to any type of firearm or only handguns? If it allows rifles, can a magazine be in the rifle and/or round in the chamber? Thanks in advance.
