  1. I've got this little old Remington Model 7 my Papaw left me when he passed away a few years back. He bought the gun new around 90-91 and loved this little rifle. It was my go to gun growing up as a kid and have took plenty of deer with it but missed a bunch too. I've not hunted with it since before he passed away and now I got it back out and was shooting it a little bit. I'm just wondering what kind of accuracy people is getting outta these little Model 7's? Because this one wont group at all. I've not cleaned the barrel and honestly dont know when the last time it had been cleaned. It's looking a little dirty. I'm hoping that's the cause of the poor accuracy. I'm going to clean it up good tonight and play around with it some more in a day or two. It's the CDL Model with the 18.5in barrel and iron sights. Just wondering if I'm expecting to much outta this short barrel.
  2. Bought the Ruger and fired it for the first time yesterday. First mag .223 had 3 malfunctions. Easily cleared no problem. Second mag also .223, first round chambered and the bolt locked forward. Had to mortar it to clear the round. After cleared emptied all 30 rounds with no malfunction. All this was done straight out of the box, no cleaning, no extra lube etc. Do you think this may a serious problem or just a break in issue. I’m new to the AR platform so any advice from the experts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bo
  3. Greener but not any meaner...Remington has rebadged it as the R2mi https://www.breachbangclear.com/remington-r2mi-50-caliber-rifle-bolt-gun/
  4. Brothers n Sisters... Another mania has struck me... I am thinkin about roundin up a double barrel coach gun of some flavor... Recommendations, thoughts, and observations are appreciated... I ain't picky about the gage, but most likely a 12 due to ammo availability. Please think about it a bit and post your thoughts. Thanks in advance, Scattergun leroy, the ancient desparado.
  5. One1

    Remington 597

Grabbed one of these today for $99 so couldn’t pass it up. Top questions: (1) headspacing good enough to dry fire if i am ever without snap caps? (2) lower power ammo like CCI QUIET - any issues? (3) whats the biggest magazine available? (4) anything i NEED to do to improve any issues the gun may be known for? So far they look to be a solid choice. Thanks!
  6. Hi all! I’m new here,I apologize if I am posting to wrong forum. I have marlin 22 model 60. I have tried 2 different rods both of them have same issue. The loading tube rod will not let me turn it to lock the rod in place. I hope this is clear and will appreciate any help. Thank You Matt
  7. I own one AR type rifle. But I'm really not much of an AR guy. I know very little about them. Recently I saw an ad for a Colt 6920 at $1000. In the past I've noted that this particular model seems to always be priced high. Sometimes over $2000. I'm not interested in buying one, just curious. What makes the 6920 model so special?
  8. A while back I picked up a couple of barrels and receivers for 50 dollars total from an estate sale. I have one barrel still sitting in the parts drawer and gave one upper to a friend. The other barrel and upper I decided to throw a gas system on and finish out. So this project started with wanting to finish a 25 dollar barreled upper. I had a flash hider sitting in the parts drawer already so I needed gas block, tube and crush washer. I knew that I wanted an a2 front sight because I wanted simple and it matches the carry handle nicely. A lot of people will hate it but instead of dealing with taper pins, I converted the front sight block to set screws by drilling and tapping a couple of holes. I also dimpled the barrel to keep the block a bit more secure. I also broke a tap so that was fun! After I started getting the upper near complete, I kind of got challenged to see how cheaply I could put together a complete rifle. I started looking at parts that I had at home and what I would need to complete a lower. I found a decent deal on a lower so I picked that up. I determined that from the parts that I had at home, I had probably given away enough parts that I was better off buying a complete LPK rather than just try and get missing pieces. So shopping I went for the cheap stuff. The last part came in last night for the entire build and here it is. My set screw install. And my broken tap. So here is how the cost for this rifle breaks down. Some parts will be listed together because they were part of one order. All prices include shipping and tax and are rounded up to the nearest dollar. Lower - $60 Upper receiver and barrel - $25 Crush washer, gas tube, hand guard end cap - $20 Front sight block - $10 LPK and buffer tube kit - $75 Charging Handle - $10 BCG - $88 Set screws - $1 Total - $289 for a complete rifle. I'm really happy with my sub 300 dollar AR. However, there are a few issues. The first is the completely unknown barrel. It has no marks on it anywhere which is incredibly inspiring. So I intend to do a chamber cast before shooting. I'm also going to throw a set of headspace gauges on it so that I can ensure that it won't blow up and kill me when I try to use it. This was a really fun exercise and I have no doubt that it can be done even cheaper. I had several people offer me parts for free but as part of the challenge to myself, I didn't want to accept free parts but there are quite a few things on the list that could be had from someone else's spare parts bin for nothing. As a matter of fact, I probably have some parts that I'm going to donate to someone else who is going to be trying something very similar soon. But at the end of it, I've got another usable (I HOPE) rifle that I can use as a beater/loaner. It's by no means my go-to/hard use rifle but it will do in a pinch for something. Also, I got in some parts that allowed me to finish piecing this together. I love Ruger's laminate stocks. This thing is cool.
  9. This is a fun video of Jerry Miculek and another guy blowing stuff up with 4 big bore ARs. 450 Bushmaster, .458 Socom, 50 Beowulf and 500 AutoMax.
  10. For the past few months I’ve had the opportunity to handle and shoot a few different Head Down Firearms rifles. Initially I was very dismissive of their rifles just because the AR market is so saturated. The more I handle them though, the more I begin to appreciate their attention to detail. They do a very good job of sourcing good components and assembling them
  11. Hi all, My father gifted a CZ 257, .233 American to my son. He's 16 years old and we shoot at the range together. I'm familiar with .22 (rifles & hand guns), .38 & .45 handguns and my favorite is an old 30-06 rifle. What what kind of kick does a 257 in comparison? What would it be used for other than target shooting? We'll take it out once I get ammo, but I'm curious if it'll be really satisfying like shooting with a 30-06 or a little on the mild side like a .22 rifle. Thanks!
  12. Please dont laugh I thought it was so cool. Lol
  13. A friend asked me to take a look at his AR. He didn't know the terminology so just jam and misfire were all I had to go on. After a range trip, failure to feed was the issue and I guessed that it was likely short stroking. I started with cleaning and that made no difference. I took it back to the workbench and started looking things over and discovered this. It was hidden by the way that the two piece rail mounts over the hand guard cap. It has apparently been like this for a while too because the erosion on the gas port in the block was terrible. Luckily, he had already purchased a replacement gas block and tube so I went ahead and replaced both. I haven't taken it back out for testing yet but I'm pretty sure that I couldn't have possibly made it worse. Yall check your gas blocks!!!
  14. Maybe this is in the right spot. Who are the TGO Pre 64 Winchester guys and gals? I have 3 Pre64 model 70 Rifles and And one post 64 Model 70 classic that I picked up at BPS in Springfield, MO in the mid 90s. Wish I’d bought all they had that day. I believe they had promotional sale going on that week for the fall hunting extravaganza. Any/who I looked up the price on my classic and have accually made a little money Or at least haven’t lost any for sure. Back to what I need. I need help figuring out what the 3 pre guns are worth. ( .308 win featherweight- 300HH mag- 264Win Mag.) I know condition is the deciding factor when price is concerned and also separates “Damn that a lot of money” from “Damn I wish I’d taken better care of it”. Thanks in advance and good day!! I will get pictures and numbers for whoever can help figure out what value the rifles hold. For the TGO-OG’s that remember me I’v added to my toy collection and will get some new post up soon.
  15. Wasn't really sure where to put this so I put it here as there is also a version with a buttstock that is a rifle. I ran across a guy posting on this on RFC and between his post and the youtube, I decided I had to try one. It should be here tomorrow. It looks like you can change these full auto pretty easily. They are not firearms by law so it is perfectly legal. They come with 6 round burst and regular semi-auto by default. The gun was only $90 and i bought 40 bottles of C02 and 30000 pellets so all in I am at $160. Pretty decent price for what looks to be a lot of fun. I'll report back how it works. I am not a fan of Umarex stuff in general, but this looked fun enough to take a flyer on it.
  16. Anyone here do any long range shooting? It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time and thinking about dropping the money on a good rifle. Thoughts on .338, 50 Bmg?
  17. I’m looking for input from anyone who has experience with the Remington V3. This gun shoulders well for me and the price is hard to beat. I’ll be using this gun 100% for waterfowl hunting. Any input on this gun would be much appreciated!
  18. The other thread about 22lr suggestions got me thinking about how each of us probably tend to gravitate to one caliber or type of rifle/pistol. For me, that is 22's. I love 22's of all sorts. I am pretty well versed in 22's and have a lot of them including many competition guns (I shoot 22lr Benchrest), but I got to thinking about what got me started to really love them. We don't have a lot of 22 threads on here, but I thought it would be cool (at least for me) to see what others consider to be their favorite personally owned 22 pistol and/or rifle and why. I am sure for some it will be a handed down rifle from their parent or grandparent. For others it may just be an era of guns, or it could be the only one you have. I am always looking to learn more about different 22's so also hoping maybe I will see something that intrigues me that I didn't know about. It doesn't need to be expensive or rare, just loved by you. Let's limit it to one rifle and pistol per person. Can be hard for those with many, but there is always that one that means just a bit more. I'll start. Rifle: Winchester Model 52D with 14x Unertl When I first got into 22's a buddy of mine had a 52C that I shot and I fell in love. Many years later I own a few, but this probably my favorite. This is what got me started into thinking about shooting Benchrest and started me down the rabbit hole. I just had it out a few days ago shooting targets. It's still impressive to how well these old guns shoot. Pistol: Browning Medalist As you can probably see, I lean towards old classics. I actually bought this gun on here from a fellow member. I love older target pistols like 41's, Hi Standard's, and of course this Browning. Something about these that once I saw one I had to have one. The grips are amazing and it is just plain fun to shoot. This is a shooter grade, but a pistol I smile at every time I get it out and shoot. I hope some find this thread enjoyable. I know most are more tactical oriented on here.
  19. So, I've had this hobby for years now, but never actually owned a .22 rifle. Shocking I know. But I've bought quite a bit of .22 lately and want a rifle to plink around with. I was thinking of just a Ruger 10/22. Is there anything else I should be looking at?
  20. Saw this over on the Cal Guns forum. Hilarious! AR 14 Joe Biden Lower
  21. Someone school me on barrel life. Looks like I may be hanging on to my .300 RUM and am reading up on barrel life in magnum calibers. I doubt I’ll ever shoot a rifle barrel out but since this caliber seems to be on the upper end of a “barrel burner” I’d like to keep an eye on it and take proper precautions. Any info or tips?
  22. I have a barrel threaded for a P14 action. Can it be re-threaded for a Remington 700 action? Kind regards...Craig
  23. I’m getting started on building a new upper. I’m wanting this to be a general purpose rifle that will double as a 2-gun rifle. Not fully tricked out but somewhat light and accurate. Usually out to 400 yards at most on steel targets. I’m wondering if most go with a standard profile or a smaller pencil profile to save weight. I’ll probably do a Midwest lightweight 15” handguard, adjustable gas block, mid-length gas system and a 1-6 power Strike Eagle. There will be times when I’m shooting 30-50 rounds a stage so I’m concerned with heat in the pencil barrels. Any advice?
  24. Ran across some videos while watch hickcok45 this morning. Saw some of the Black Aces models. What do some of you guys know or think about them? Looked interesting. Worth try to find/buy one? Thanks for all comments.
  25. Hey guys! I've occasionally had the opportunity of playing golf and always had amazing, memorable experiences. Decided to pick it up as a serious hobby now but I don't really know much about it.I decided I am going to get myself a LINK REMOVED but not sure witch one to pick. Saw some great options compared on this site and am leaning towards the Bushnell Tour V3: I've set myself a budget of $250 for the golf rangefinder. what do you guys recommend? Thanks ahead for all the help! Erik Himmel
