  1. If there is a thread similar to this please direct me. I looked for about 5 minutes. I’m about to start a pistol build and I’m looking for some advice. What is the optimal barrel and rail length? I have a 14.5” rifle with a pinned flash hider to make it 16” now just to put that into perspective. Also I’m looking to make this with mid level components. What braces perform the best? Any recommendations on barrel besides Daniel Defense? I know they’re good to go. Last question. I know it costs around $200 for the stamp to SBR a rifle. That’s just for one single lower that you can put any length barrel upper on correct? Also how long does is usually take to get that stamp back in TN?
  2. Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has any experience with these. My dad is wanting one. Seems like it would be pretty cool. I like how you can control the pressure. Also, can anyone recommend a good compressor? https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Seneca_Sumatra_2500_500cc_Reservoir/1077 Thanks in advance!
  3. Why do I need an AK-47? It's a pretty simple question, really. I think I want one, but I am not really sure why. I have always owned AR platform rifles. All of my gear is for the AR platform. I have been tempted by the AK many times over the years but never dipped my toes into those waters. I have only shot a handful of them over the past two decades. But, again, I think that maybe I want one. Like a lot of folks, I was ready to buy one last October as we ran up toward the election, but then I breathed a sigh of relief when Hillary was kept out of office. Talk me into or out of this.
  4. Just a question tonight for those more educated than me on this subject. When it comes to charging handles, do you go with the big name guys with the big price tags? Or do you go with the 20+/- models? Thinking of trying my had at a couple of builds, and would like some advice. Thanks.
  5. Just picked up a Bulgarian Special Edition Makarov. The 9x18 ammo I purchased does not fit. The slide does not fully close and the bullet does not fit in the front of the barrel. How can I check if this was converted to another caliper like a .380? I read that was a common conversion at one time. I purchased the gun from a lawyer doing an estate sale so he has no idea. Thanks
  6. My 1945 Savage 6A jams in the guide clip. I have tried lots of different brands of ammo. I now have over a thousand rounds that I can't fire. The rifle will fire if I spend two to three minutes working it out of the clip I have replace the springs.
  7. I got a Lee Load All II over 20yrs ago, and never used it :/ Doesn't look like they've changed in all that time(?) ...Anyways. I'd like to replicate some of the 9 pellet low-recoil (1150 fps) stuff I've been shooting from brands like Fiocchi.... I'm not really interested in loading anything else right now. Slugs would probably be next. Anyone know of a good recipe(s) for what I'm looking for? And is there anywhere to get 00 buck shot at a price that makes sense, or will i need to cast my own for reloading to save me any money? I'm in an apartment, so that would be tricky :/ If this question is a lot more complicated than i'm thinking , links would be appreciated too. Thanks!!
  8. Hornady has a 6mm neck size die that doesn't indicate which 6mm it refers to. I specifically need die for 6mm creedmoor. Someone has told me this "should" work. Will this work on any cartridge with a 6mm neck? They make a die specifically for 6mm BR which makes me think all 6mm are not created equal. I'd greatly appreciate anyone who can shed light on this.
  9. This may be a longshot. I picked up an old Llama IXA for $150, and figured it would be a fun little resto project that wouldn't break the bank. The last piece I'm missing is the extractor spring. This is part #10 shown in the attached schematic. I'm having a hell of a time finding this little sumbitch. Anyone out there what size/ load this spring is supposed to be, or if it is interchangeable with any other firearms? If someone had one laying around, that would be even better. TIA.
  10. Lately, I have increasingly more been thinking about either sending a Glock 19 slide off to be milled for a Trijicon RMR, or buying a slide or perhaps even full handgun already equipped with a red dot sight. I would like to hear from those of you who already have gone down this road. I do not have problems sighting with traditional irons. I do, however, love the way my red dots work on my carbines, SBRs and PDWs. I think that I would like a red dot on a handgun equally well. One option is perhaps purchasing another Sig P320C but this time getting the RX model with the Romeo1 sight already installed. What do you guys have? Post pics of your setup, if you want. I'm sure that seeing them would push me over the edge.
  11. We have 5 acres of mixed open/wooded land here in N TN, with mixed critters around often. When outdoors I always carry my Judge Public Defender Poly with a mix of shot for small/large pests. It carries well in a Fobus paddle, but can get in the way when doing chores and sit'n on the lawn tractor. It's most comfortable in a full shoulder rig or Kangaroo Carry but that can get sweaty and sometimes in the way also. How well does a cowboy-style gun-belt work in regards to comfort and convenience? Or should I look for a chest x-draw style? I open-carry on my property but prefer to be as discrete as I can.Tx, M
  12. I was considering purchasing one of the large ring mauser actions from sarco. I need recommendations on a smith to barrel the action. I am intending on a 270win barrel with a varmint profile, probably a Shaw barrel. I live in Mcminn county between Knoxville and Chattanooga if you know someone nearby. I am open to shipping the gun off if the smith's quality of work, or pricing makes it the better decision. I would perfer to have someone semi local (within 1.5 hr drive) do the work if possible.I just don't really want to send it across the country and wait months for the work to be done if I don't have to. Thanks Lucas
  13. Long time no post, but life isn't as hectic as it has been so I'm back. Recently I changed the barrel out on my CMT/TGO rifle to a 20" Christensen Arms carbon fiber wrapped 223 wylde barrel. I'm trying to find either a thread protector or a flash hider that is the same diameter as the barrel or at least pretty close to it. I'm not a big fan of brakes due to the added noise and blast to the shooter and the people next to me. Anyway the end of the muzzle looks to be 0.915". Anyone have a suggestion of something close? Edited to add it's a 1/2×28 thread.
  14. Is there any one or place locally who does Luger appraisals? I have had one for a number of years and due to several recent surgeries, I may be forced to sell it. It is a Mauser Banner dated 1942. Everything matches with the exception of the magazine. It is in very good condition (barely a little pitting, no rust) and I have the original hard holster with which it was issued. I have no paper work on it, but it was liberated from a Czech POW in 1942. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. round two. warming up to the thought of reloading .223 for my AR (Saint), have spent hours on line, including you tube. seems like the re-size/trim after first shot is important. thinking about setting up a single stage press for re-size/decap. Really like carbide, but want to have the most control over re-sizing (thinking FL). target: most accurate load @ 100yd or less. would love to hear thoughts on the best die from a precision re-size standpoint. thank you in advance,
  16. Greetings to the group, Having purchased a Savage model 10 in .223 Remington, I'm interested in handloading ammo with very good uniformity for target shooting. I'm new to this sport, so there's lots to be learned. Reading about the different methods of dealing with lacking concentricity & with proper bullet tension, neck thickness & run out & such, I'd like to know if any of you have strong opinions on whether the bushing style, collet style or ball style neck sizing dies give the best results in terms of concentricity and bullet tension. Keep in mind this is for a bolt gun which will see only the same fire formed brass repeatedly.
  17. Searched and was amazed nobody has discussed before! As you probably know, lots of people are selling "80% completed" Lower Receivers that require no paperwork at all. One of my good friends/clients gifted me 2 of them as a "Decoration or Conversation starter" and the next year, another friend left 4-5 of them at my house before leaving the country. I know there are lots of websites that SELL the nice Jigs that require (minimum: DRILL) nothing more than a router or drill press. However, I'm wondering if anyone already owns one that they'd kindly allow me to rent or borrow from them. IF NOT: Does anyone else have any interest in splitting the cost of a Jig that would be good for 8-10 receivers before it's lifespan would be up? YOUTUBE Video of Completion Process If so, Contact me and lets make it happen! I plan on ordering one in 5 days if I don't see any interest. 6one5 579-149one or reach me on facebook
  18. I'm trying to help a friend determine the value of a 1873 US Springfield 45-70 Trap Door rifle with bayonet. Can anyone on the board enlighten me as how to best go about this? The rifle will be listed for sale once the value can be determined.
  19. Trying to find a mag for this 1960's .22 (six rd) S/L/LR. The more research I do the more confused I get. From what I can tell it was made for Western Auto by either Mossberg or Savage and is one of these models: Savage 15 or 120 Mossberg 350, 250C or 353 Can any one help me clear this up? R/S hughd
  20. Hey guys. I started a conversation previously regarding handgun laws and I got great answers that helped a lot. But I have one more question that I didn't think of but would've been helpful to know today. The castle doctrine extension enables me to carry a loaded handgun in my vehicle without an HCP as long as I am not unable to own a handgun by law and if I'm in lawful possession of the vehicle. My question is....if someone I am riding with (friend, relative etc.) is in lawful possession of their vehicle, would that be covered by the castle doctrine? Or is it only if I myself am in possession of the vehicle and am driving? Thanks for the help!
  21. New guy here, but not new to forum discussions. Thought I would throw this out there. Is any forum better/worse for posting 1911 related topics, questions, photos, etc? Just curious. Off to bed, I'll get your replies in the morning.
