  1. I finally found the ammo my new orange man bought and paid for CZ 457 American target rifle likes. The price of $11.00 a box sux but if I can hit aspirin and plastic push pins @ 50 yards with it, I'll gladly pay to play the game. Bill
  2. Finely used the last of my powder for 223/308. Got to go buy more. Things have changed a lot since I bought the surplus powder. What should I buy? 223-55 and 62gr 308-150 and 168gr
  3. I wanted to post a follow-up to a casting question I had late last year. I was looking into getting into casting and had a member here, @RedlegEd, respond and offer to show me the ropes. Ed had me over two times, once to check out his casting setup and another time to let me cast and powder coat before i invested in my own equipment. I had a great time and can't thank Ed enough for his help and guidance. I enjoyed it enough to invest in a Lee 4-20 pot, a 9mm mould, some lead and powder coat. I was recently was able to get it all setup and use it all for the first time to cast a couple hundred projectiles and powder coat them all. Here are some pictures of all I was able to accomplish. I wanted to give Ed a big shout out here for all his help and patience.
  4. https://www.gunsandammo.com/editorial/department-of-defense-chooses-hornady-65-creedmoor-ammo/375762 As a recent adopter of the 6.5 CM round I think this is pretty cool. I really think it’s going to eat into the .308’s market share in a serious way.
  5. Does the flat point on a pistol bullet have any other function besides not going through a bulletproof vest?
  6. Some of them are known and/or obvious to me (hollow point), other's not so much? What's the point to all the _____ they're doing to bullets these days? I mean besides moving more product. Specifically to my Sunday problem, I'm shopping for more reloading bullets at Berry's bullets (berrysmfg.com). I have a few boxes of their 124 gr round-nose 9mm plated target bullet, have used it for a few years, works just fine for me (I carry w/ 124 gr gold dot, so want to practice with similar). But I noticed now they've got flat-nosed, and several with a large empty cavity at the back of the bullet (vs. the typical boat-tail style I see and am familiar with its purpose in rifle rounds). They also carry a 'target hollow point'...huh? Thick plate vs. thin plate? Whycome? I always bought the round-nosed practice rounds because they were supposed to feed better. Liked it better when I only had 2 choices, LOL! I was just going to order another couple boxes of the usual, but curious about the purpose or purported benefit to the added features I'm seeing in the marketplace. Product description doesn't list a reason for the feature. Thanks. - K
  7. Below is a comparison photo I took of my 14 rnd extended 45 acp M&P mag next to my 15 rnd 40 S&W M&P mag. (The 15 rnd 40 M&P mag is the same size as a 17 rnd 9mm for reference.) One might say, duh, the 45 is a larger round, what did you expect? I just thought it was a good visual of how much more space the 45 round requires when it comes to magazine capacity.
  8. I know we've all seen and discussed the current run on ammo and the value of having the ability to load your own. I've also read many posts here over the past few years encouraging folks to stock up because of the historically low prices and availability . I imagine most heeded that advice. If this editorial is factual, it looks like another shortage may be upon us. I am glad I took advantage of the Black Friday deals members recommended and got some great buys on components as I primarily shoot handloads. What are your thoughts on this editorial and it's content? https://www.gunsandammo.com/editorial/economics-ammunition/374730?fbclid=IwAR33LUzNvC__tD5skk8giwUjQfdiGTgUh22JD_xQS4IV5jS4Li4JGysX2aQ
  9. I’m looking to get back into rifle reloading. I did the bulk pistol thing on a Dillon 550 when I was doing a lot of competitive shooting and just got sick of reloading. Once the word normalizes I plan to get a nicer single stage press to load rifle ammo. I’m really leaning heavily toward the Hornady Iron press but looking for some advice and recommendations. I would eventually get a trickle powder measure but would initially rely on manual powder dump. My main reason for the Hornady is to take advantage of the lock and load system.
  10. I wondered if anybody has had experience with this. I'm shooting out of a 2' barreled .357 Magnum. The load is a +p level .38 Spl. I think its the ahort barrel and soft lead. They shoot good out of a 6" gun.
  11. HAs anyone got their FFL license to manufacturing ammo in Tennessee. I'm thinking of getting mine. Just wondering what steps for Tennessee. to do Federal doesn't seem to bad.
  12. If you are in need of some brass case, this is pretty decent ammo at an fair price. I've ordered from these folks several times in the past. $230 shipped for case of 400, no tax. Its run well for me in AR's and AK's chambered for it, I'd call it on the low end of NATO charge window with my M1A short stroking a handful of times as it got dirty. https://www.armsunlimited.com/Magtech-CBC-762x51-M80-NATO-Ammo-147-Grain-FMJ-p/762a-fmj-case.htm
  13. If anyone is needing 9mm ammo I just left Shoot Point Blank in Knoxville and they had maybe 100 or so 1000 round cases of Magtech and CCI/Blazer. $219,99. Not a great price but if you were caught with your mag out and didn't prepare it is there. It won't last the day I am sure.
  14. SGAmmo, LuckyGunner, Ammoman…..No new orders, no availability. Things are really getting stupid.
  15. Looking for 5-10 rounds of 30 Rimfire to shoot the pepperbox and to have some for $#!+$ and giggles. I know it might be easier to ask for a unicorn, but if you have some, let me know. Closer to Nashville the better.
  16. Has anyone had any issues with Winchester White Box 9mm 124 gr NATO ammunition having light primer strikes? My SIG P-365 has had 8 light primer strikes in 450-500 rounds. The fellow I called from SIG said I was using cheap ammo and they couldn't help me. I had purchased 1000 rounds of this WWB and none of my other 9mm had any problem with it. I have never had a light primer strike with WWB but I did switch to Federal ammo and after 200 rounds have not had any light primer strikes (one failure to reset). Has there been any issues with WWB ammo that could support SIGs comments (FYI, SIG's customer service was terrible. The guy actually said "8 failures out of 500? That's not bad." He never even asked me for the serial number, just refused to help. I wrote SIG a letter and they have never bothered to respond)
  17. Looking at a vintage double hammered, double triggered, double barrel JJ Weston (Belgium made) with Damascus barrels. Assuming the gunsmith gives the green light on safety, where's a source for period safe 2-1/2" shells? Not planning to shoot much, but I can't resist just once or twice
  18. What I'm really looking for is a 158 gr. hp that will expand at .38 +p levels. I don't cast, so it'll be something I can buy. I've tried Hornady 158 gr. swchp and they just ain't got it. Shoot good though. Thanks
  19. I’m looking for some .45 Colt range ammo. I saw this stuff that I can get locally at Sportsman Warehouse for $30/box of 50??? https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting-gear-gun-supplies/ammunition-ammo-for-hunting-shooting-sports/handgun-ammo-hunting-shooting-sports/grizzly-cartridge-45-long-colt-250gr-rnfp-cowboy-handgun-ammo-50-rounds/p/1528762
  20. What flavor ammo do you guys recommend for practice ammo for a 9 MM pistol? I plan to purchase some(2 to 3 thousand rounds) before the election. Might get scarce again. I have been purchasing Win White box 115 gr Rn from Wal Mart, but they are selling out and not being replaced. Going to order from internet company, S G Ammo.
  21. Never owned a .380; never shot one. Have read lots of info on both sides of the debate that the .380 is or is not a good round for self-defense. I know that many of you here carry a .380, so please educate me about a caliber I know nothing about. Thank you for your feedback!
  22. I'm doing some loads to shoot out of a conversion cylinder in my 1851 Navy. The instructions for the cylinder are to use 38 Long Colt or 38 Special wad cutters. I've got a good bit of 38 LC brass and want to load 148 grain hollow base wadcutters to get better obturation/grip on the rifling. I haven't found any 38 LC load data for 148 grain wadcutters, but have the data for 38 special. The question is if it is safe to load the wadcutters in the 38 LC brass using the COL and powder charge listed for the 38 special loads. It seems to me that the space inside the case of the 38 LC with the bullet protruding 1/8 inch out of the case would be the same as in the 38 special case. The pressure listed in the Lee manual for the 38 special wadcutters is actually less than for the 150 grain round nose that I have been loading in the 38 LC brass so I think I'm safe there. I thought I'd bounce my logic off some experts before loading them. These are not hot loads by the way.
  23. I was wondering if anyone has used .380+p ammo. I know most modern firearms say + p is ok for occasional use if it meets saami specs. Since there is no .380 +P specs, there is none saami approved. However I know of two companies making .380 + P ammo, Buffalo Bore and Underwood Ammo.Just curious if anyone has tried it in their .380 pistols.
  24. We have guns, but many don’t have a simple BB or pellet gun. They can be useful for persuading critters off your property, training new shooter, or just plinking cans. I like it for setting my sights in the garage before i go shooting. If you own a 22, you can have both with Aguila Colibri 420fps ammo. I made a video to show the primer only round (no gunpowder) that has a simple pellet tip. Standard bb guns shoot 390 to 590 fps. Pellet guns shoot around 720 fps. No gunpowder means not a firearm .
