  1. Started using Hi Tek coated lead bullets for reloading. My new go to bullet for reloading .45's. No issues, very consistent weight and size, and good price. Using 200 gr, .452 SWC for target/practice. Anyone cast and coat their own? Just curious how difficult the coating process is. Gary
  2. Is anyone reloading 350 legend. Is it okay to use 357 bullets? I understand that .358 is a no no.
  3. Hi guys, was browsing and ran across this thought some of you would find it eye opening. Just a few tidbits. 30-30 retail $3.95, 30-06 retail $5.00, .300 win mag retail $6.30. .22 short retail $0.70, 22LR retail $0.85 and .22 match was a whopping $1.30. Here is the link http://cartridgecollectors.org/content/catalogs/PETERS/Peters Catalogs/1965-Peters-4 Jan-Wholesale PL.pdf
  4. I am always looking to add to my stock of ammo and came across this deal. If you need 22 Mag ammo, this is a steal. $6.99/box and shipping was the best I could find for the same amount of ammo at a few different sites. No Tax to TN. Check it on Midway (just search P765) and you will see it has 4.9 stars and is $12.99. https://2awarehouse.com/fed-prm-22wmr-30gr-jhp-50-3000/
  5. As noted earlier, I was a bit light in mag ammo so I toped it off some with 5 bricks of this Federal 30g H-shok "hoping" it would shoot nearly as well as my preferred Win Super X 40g jhp's. The Marlin 57M has all ways shot that ammo the most consistently but the Fed being on a pretty good sale, I took a untested chance that it would be acceptable. The method of test was off my sand bag set up that I'v used for the passed 38 years. The scope is an old Bushnel Quad Power 2.5-10 that is paralaxed for 100 yards. My target range at this point is exactly 61 feet from muzzle to target. So, my group measurements will be with a dial caliper. Each group is a 10 shot string with my Win Super X leading the 4 types since the rifle is sighted in with that particular round. The Remington 40g PSP was a top shooter for a friend of mine so I was eager to test that round here and it clearly more spoty that the Super X. By the time I put the Fed H-Shok in the gun, the 40 rounds fired had created some very noticeable heat mirage so I had to slow down and shoot the feds with a bit of air breeze when ever it happened to clear the POA. I was pleasantly surprised with these results. If that lone bottom left hit was not there, the Feds would have taken the lead by a .040 tighter group. As it was, that one round put in equal with the Remingtons despite the Rem's being far more choppy. Then theres the Win Varmint HV's. Thank fully, I only have about 5 or 6 boxes of this stuff. This particular batch is the "Thunderbolts" of mag rounds. I didn't have hi hopes for it since my last bench outing with a new to me Uberti 5.5" SAA, that showed very poor group consistency and even in this test I could actually hear a difference in the boom report between 2 or 3 of the rounds. Before shooting this last 10 round string, I let the barrel cool down. It clearly has potential and I may even try some out of a new batch in the future but for now, I'm going to stick with Super X in 40 and there was no mistake in buying the H-Shok in 30's.
  6. Does anyone in the Wilson County/Mid-TN area reload .45-70, 44 Mag & 45 LC ..... AND would be willing to help an old man set up (from scratch) his reloading? You may consider the old man to currently know absolutely NOTHING about reloading. Any brave soul out there?
  7. Some time back I come on line whining about how stick powder was a pain in the backside to get in 223 cases. Somebody, and I don't remember who, said to use my Dillon case tumbler and vibrate the cases to get the powder down. This is the first time I've loaded 223 since then and it works great.
  8. Looking for info on col just loaded some hornady brass with 25.5 varget 70 grain nosler accubond spitzer set to mag length just checking if anybody would have any info on this particular round 224 valkyrie
  9. Hi guys, I have been loading 10mm for awhile using 800-x powder, but recently got some AA#7 to load some .357 and saw some load data for 10mm. The question I have is my Speer #12 manual lists AA#7 11.0 gr start with a 1065FPS, 12.0 max at 1180FPS using 180 gold dot bullet. The test gun was a 5" S&W 1006 pistol according to book. So I load up several rounds using 11.0-12.0 in .2gr increments and head to the chronograph. Only difference I used 180 gr Hornady XTP bullets and fired from a S&W 610 revolver 3.875 and shooting the start load of 11.0 I fired 3 shots 1266, 1275, 1260FPS. The primers looked ok, but I quit shooting because my speed was close to 80FPS over what they showed with a 12.0 max load. Anyone have any data or has shot this load? I am developing this as a deer round in case I get one into bow range. Thanks for any info, I have searched quite a bit on the net. I would rather not blow up my 610 and prefer leaving the range with all the fingers and toes I came there with.
  10. I found a really good supplier of fully prepped .223 / 5.56 MM rifle brass. This stuff is priced good. And is delivered, (free shipping), via. USPS Priority Mail in just a few days. And it comes ready to load. Fully cleaned inside and out, by wet tumbling in Stainless Steel pins. Fully trimmed, resized, with the primer pockets swaged. All that's left is to run it through the Dillon. All I did additional was to chamfer the case mouths with a VLD Chamfer Tool on my RCBS Case Prep Center to allow easier bullet seating. The primers seat beautifully in these cases, with just the right amount of pressure. All to the proper depth. And none stand proud. You can't beat the price. I bought 2,500 rounds for just $179.00. (It's $10.00 more now, and they're showing, "out of stock" at the moment. But they resupply fast. I'm going to order more as soon as they get more in. I load this stuff by the 30 pound bowl full, with the bulk 6,000 round boxed, Hornady 55 Gr. FMJ Boat Tail. With Hogdon CFE 223 Powder. That stuff burns clean and accurate. But more importantly, it flows through a Dillon powder measure like water. From there it goes into .50 Cal ammo cans. This ammo runs perfectly in all of my AR's. And it delivers MOA groups in calm conditions, in both my CZ-527 and Marlin X-7 bolt guns. For this price it just doesn't pay to buy non prepped brass any more. Resizing and prepping brass is the biggest PITA in reloading. This stuff makes your time at the reloading bench much more productive. All of the loaded rounds gage properly in my Dillon Case Gauge. And they chamber effortlessly. https://msprocessedbrass.com/product-category/rifle-brass
  11. hey all i plan to try and go deer hunting this season with a buddy and plan to take my mosin and am looking for non fmj ammo and was wondering if anyone here as used this or something else https://www.sgammo.com/product/wolf-or-wpa/20-round-box-762x54r-200-grain-soft-point-wolf-wpa-hunting-ammo-made-lve-russia
  12. I got my equipment and supplies from my dad. 7 truck loads from his house to mine and still boxes of lead ingots to haul this way. By his notes and invoices I have 3 cases of small pistol magnum primers and 1 case of small rifle magnum primers. Probable twice that much powder. He was big in shooting 38spl, 357, 9mm, 380 auto, 40sw, .223, 30car. and 7.62X39.
  13. Since Rural King made the very public stand to continue selling firearms and ammunition I thought I would spend some money in support of them. The website says they are sold out of much of what they sell. I specifically looked at 380 and 223. I didn't look at all the calibers. Did others feel the same way or maybe those people hoarding the supply, or what? Or were they sold out of the stuff before they made the public statement. They website says still sold out. Mostly of the bulk boxes of 500 and 1000. What gives? Balderdash I say!! I should have been more specific. I was looking more at the bulk boxes of 500 or 1000.
  14. If you reload a lot and/or shoot indoors do yourself a favor and get your serum lead levels (lead levels in blood) checked. My have gone up drastically in the last year, doing things now to bring it back down. Take care.
  15. Can anyone explain to me why the load data for 357 Sig( among others) varies so widely . Western Powders lists the load data for Accurate No 9 powder and a 115 gr Nosler JHP differently than Nosler. Nosler has the 115gr JHP with Accurate No 9 powder as having a different Max load which exceeds that listed by Western Powder themselves. Western powders lists the max load as being right under the 40k psi ceiling for that chambering. I have heard that although AA No 9 is a great powder, you have to be spot on with it or risk over charging.. Am I missing something here?
  16. Several years ago I upgraded from a RCBS turret press, and ended up with a Dillon SDB for pistol rounds and stuck with the Rockchucker for rifle. I think it is time to upgrade again and the Hornady LNL AP progressive seems ideal. I have a good process but reloading "bulk" 5.56 on a single stage is time consuming. I won't use a bullet or case feeder, will feed both in by hand but one benefit is the Hornady would all be left hand vs the Dillon right/left sequence. I have dies already for each caliber and most are in the Hornady bushing (used in the Rockchucker) and an extra Hornady powder measure (along with extra inserts for quick changeover). My plan would be to reload 9mm (primary), .45ACP, .223 (primary), 6.8SPC (maybe, don't shoot a lot of it), and possibly some basic .308 rounds (although I intend to leave .308 on the Rockchucker even though I realize a progressive press is capable of match quality ammo). I have read quite a few reviews and other threads on this press, along with the inevitable "just buy a Dillon!" comments, but interested in what some local folks think of the Hornady. I think my reloading process for handgun would remain basically the same: size/deprime in station 1, prime, powder through expander in station 2, powder check in station 3 (new vs the Dillon SDB), seat in station 4, crimp in station 5 (probably a Lee factory crimp die). Rifle would need to be figured out, since it requires more prep work. I think maybe size/deprime on the single stage and run through the tumbler to remove lube and process primer pockets / trim as needed. Then on the progressive place an universal decapper in station 1 to remove any stuck media (but not really needed), prime, powder in station 2, powder check in station 3 as a backup to my manual check, and bullet seating in station 4. I don't (currently) crimp rifle rounds but that could possibly go in station 5 otherwise it would remain empty. Anything you wish you had known before buying? Anything specific I should consider adding to improve the process? Adding on press trimming isn't a consideration either so I think this process is pretty much it.

  18. What’s a good bullet to use in 223 rem to hunt coyotes? Thinking the Hornady Vmax looks pretty good and mid south sales varagadon bullets what are your thoughts? I will be shooting a M&P 15 with a 1 in9 twist. I also have on hand some CFE223,H335 and reloaded 15 have not used Reloader 15 in 223 yet. Also looking to pick up some AR comp soon and maybe some acurrate 2230.
  19. I have 145 unprimed and 70 primed .308 Winchester cases and 150 Hornady Match 168 Gr BTHP free to a good home. Since I live in the sticks of Lascassas I will meet in the surrounding area if you don't want to come to the house.
  20. I built an AR pistol in 45 acp with an 8.5 inch barrel. I am trying to decide between carrying fmj in it or jhp. My reasoning is that when we close the gunstore and leave late at night if spmeone tries to rob the store I may have to shoot through a windshield or car door. For that fmj would be preferable. However if the shot requires expansion not penetration jhp are better. What say you?
  21. I inherited a K-frame .32 S&W Long M&P (model of 1948 according to the good folks on the S&W forums). It was my father's bedside gun for a long time and has set in my safe for the past ten years. The action is tight, locks up solidly and after a disassembly and through cleaning the DA pull is remarkably smooth. The single action pull is ridiculous! I should be receiving a set of dies, some 100 gr LWC bullets, and brass in the mail tomorrow. Has anyone here ever handloaded .32 S&W Long? The powders I have on hand are: Unique, Bullseye, Titegroup, AA#2, W231, 2400, Trail Boss and probably some others I can't think of at the moment. And Yes, I do have a chronograph. I'd appreciate any info and experiences loading this cartridge... bullet weight, powder charge, OAL etc. I'll attach a couple of pics of the .32 Smith below. I should have cleaned it innards and started shooting it earlier! Dirty innards!
  22. Ballpark, whats are decent (standard) components worth these days compared to buying new? For example, for .223/5.56. Thanks!
  23. Looks like it passed from what I can tell does any one know when this will take affect.
  24. I know nothing about weird French weapons but I do know that ammo is not easy to come by, especially surplus. SGAmmo has some 7.5x54 if anyone needs it. https://www.sgammo.com/product/surplus-ammo-sale/500-round-can-75x54-french-fmj-ball-military-surplus-ammo-made-1975-gevelo
  25. I'm gonna try to get certified for the long range (200-600 yards) at my gun club. The problem is that until I do, I can only use the 100 yard range. So all I can really do is try to work up some real good loads for this rifle at 100 and hope they'll get the job done. Anybody got some good, tried and true 7.62X51 long range loads?
