  1. No longer content to just sell bullets, Sierra is entering the factory ammo world. I can't wait to try these out. https://www.recoilweb.com/sierra-steps-up-their-game-with-gamechanger-ammunition-145411.html
  2. I want to see the numbers on this. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2019/01/21/shot-2019-seismic-ammunition-high-mass-loads/ No way that carries much energy. And two piece cases? Are we just making things too complicated now?
  3. CCI has announced a few new 22 loads. https://www.recoilweb.com/new-silencer-food-from-cci-145228.html There is a lot more at the link and its worth reading. I'm very interested in the blue nose as I've gotten to where I rarely shoot anything fast these days.
  4. I recently received some empty aluminum 9mm cases in a batch of misc. brass. I don't see why these can't be reloaded, but I've personally never heard of anyone actually doing it. Anyone have experience or potential issues I should be aware of? Thanks in advance. I did a brief search on this but came up empty. My apologies if it's already been discussed.
  5. Are people still looking for this ammunition? I am unsure of what it’s worth, don’t ever plan on shooting it so...may decide to sell. This is the 7N6 ammo Obama had banned from importation.
  6. I’m curious about the Whidden blackout trim die. It’s $60 where the Dillon is close to $190 (with tool head). Will the Whidden make the conversion or will a rough cut be necessary? Also need to know if their die will work with the Dillon tool head and vacuum setup. I can’t see any reason to spen $190 if $60 will do.
  7. Hello everyone. recently I have been looking at the 338 Federal. I am curious if anyone has any experience with this round. From the outside looking in it looks good? Blessings Doug
  8. hey guys, I recently ran across a rare find ( I guess). Found 420 rounds of 5.56 ball ammunition still in bandoliers with the stripper clips and quick loaders all in the original green military steel ammo can. the bandoliers have a date of Mar 1971 (iirc). Anybody have any insight on if its safe to shoot? it looks like any other ammo ive ever seen but the brass is tarnished. A193 is the nomenclature of the ammo I believe. What would it be worth? as I no longer have an AR.
  9. I plan to use my Marlin 336 this year for whitetail. My shots won’t be over 50 yards max. Having never hunted with a 30-30 what ammo have you had the best luck with?
  10. Purchased the software about a year ago. Then realized ‘garbage in=garbage out’ so I then purchased a Pro Chrono for velocity measurements. I would like to spend some time with someone who is experienced with the software to learn “tip, tricks and traps” to get me over the initial hump of learning how to use Quickload. I’m a little overwhelmed with what the software can do and I am over analyzing everything. “Analysis Paralysis” I’ve printed out the Quickload manual and read through it several times. I do have many years of reloading behind my belt and recently got back into it after divorce, college, raising family and other life events that shifted my priorities. Could some kind soul allow me to spend an afternoon with them so I can pick their brains and experience? Willing to travel an hour or so and provide pizza and refreshments for your time.
  11. I always check my 9mm's by seeing if they will drop into my pistol barrel plus I'll try to make them as idienticle as factory target ammo but I was thinking of getting a Headspace gauge for easier measuring and saving time. When looking I saw the Hornady Headspace gauge that says its for 9mm in 9x19 AND 9x21 . I may be having a brain fart but the 9x21 case is longer and since the case headspaces on the case mouth , wouldn't that gauge read them differently ? Excuse me if I am wrong or confused. I thought you'd need a different gauge for each of those two rounds .
  12. I recently bought some primed 35 whelen brass from A&H Reloading in Nashville out of the bins of brass. Does anyone know what kind of primers are used in the primed hornady brass? Also, do they need to be resized?
  13. I have inherited a WWII bring back from my step father who inherited it from his father that brought it back from WWII and would like to shoot it. So I'm looking for a soft load but being a chrome bore it really likes the high velocity ammo. Does anyone have any powder they would recommend for it. I am not looking for recipes as I will work up a load slowly, just looking for powder recommendations. Thanks every!
  14. I saw a photo of the Old Hickory Powder Plant in a Cracker Barrel restaurant here in Memphis. My uncle worked there just before he joined the US Army. At the time he worked there it was operated by DuPont and they were producing Cordite for the British. Cordite was a soft pliable stuff that was extruded. Before it solidified it could be molded like clay. My uncle made a shapely ladies' leg complete with a dainty high heeled shoe from Cordite and gave it to my mother, very racey at the time! When I first saw the leg, about 1943 or so, it was maybe six inches from thigh (blush!) to heel. The last time I saw it, 1985 or so, it had shrunk to about 3 1/2" long, but still perfectly portioned. It varied in color from charcoal gray to translucent amber. At my mother's death in 1998 it went to my oldest sister in Florida. I have no idea of its whereabouts now. I believe Old Hickory's output was for British artillery shells. I don't know if any was produced for small arms ammunition, but the British used Cordite for awhile after that War. My uncle was Maynard Wright and was on the editorial staff of the Nashville Banner then moved to Charleston, WV as an editor for the Charleston Gazette. Bob Wright
  15. Not sure if any is left but Midway has surplus .308 at .58 per round. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/109678/military-surplus-austrian-ammunition-762x51mm-nato-146-grain-full-metal-jacket-battle-packs-of-240-12-boxes-of-20
  16. https://palmettostatearmory.com/case-of-1000-rounds-fiocchi-shooting-dynamics-223-rem-55-gr-fmj-ammunition-223a.html This is the cheapest I have seen brass 223 ammo in awhile. Maybe I just don't know the cheapest place to buy. Thoughts?
  17. I have a bunch of assorted brass that came from a range here in town that closed up. I have probably almsot two 5 gallon pails of it and I am thinking about sitting down in spare time and going through the pails and seperating out all the different calibers into different cans. Now with that said, are there any calibers that would be wanted more than another for reloading. I figure it will give me something to do this winter when I get bored. I know the 22caliber is junk but just looking to find out what might be the more popular calibers..............
  18. Has anyone tried this ammo ? Dunham's has it on sale today and tomorrow only for $17.99. I need more 22 ammo like I need another hole in my head but, as they say, there's no such thing as having too much ammo
  19. Fair price on 9mm Winchester ammo, plus free shipping if you buy 20 boxes (1000 rounds) https://palmettostatearmory.com/winchester-usa-9mm-nato-124gr-fmj-ammunition-50rds-q4318.html
  20. You just never know what you'll find when you go digging around your ammo stores... I stumbled across an ammo can containing 2 unopened battle packs and 1 opened, but full, battle pack of the 5.56 ammo pictured below. iirc I've had this since the early 1990's. I've not had much success locating it on the interwebs. It's 344 A 86 5.56 Ball M1A3 in 300 round battlepacks. South African maybe? Anyone familiar with this 5.56? Thanks in advance, Jamie
  21. Here's the question. I cast 100 .452 RNFP (Lee Die) 255gr bullets. Because of the high antimony content the bullets averaged out at 222gr. What if any considerations should I take into account for the weight difference? My first thought is that I would stick with 255gr load data as the size of the round is the same thus limiting case capacity. I would assume that velocity would more then likely increase since weight is different, unless the bearing surface of the bullet actually has more of an effect then the overall weight. Anyways, let the speculation begin. Round Details Caliber: 460 Rowland Powders: Accurate #7 / #5 Brass: Starline (New) Primers: Winchester (LP)

  23. Got 4 bags of assorted 303 ammo @ estate sale . About 20 rds. each. Most have age related stains .Would it be safe to put 'em in the Vibrashine in small batches ? Mostly 1943 vintage.
  24. I may have made a thread on this , but I don't remember so forgive me if I did , I searched and didn't find one. I have been reloading 9mm for 4 years and started 45acp months ago. I hear people that have horror stories about blowing up there Glock 21 and 30's with reloads. Do any of you guys know if this is because of reloaders not paying attention or is the Glock chamber a lot bigger and weakens the brass quicker ? Or anything else ? Thanks for any information.
